Good world building requires a good timeline of events, and Pokemon is no different. In Pokemon Gold and Silver, we learned that they took place three years after the games that came before them, meaning that each of the mainline Pokemon games have a continuity and aren’t just single entities. Obviously, it has only expanded exponentially since then, and that is what we will be exploring today.

An almost perfect timeline, except one thing, what about the events in Unova’s past? The twin kings, Volcarona’s first appearance, the Seafloor ruins. Why isn’t that here?

Writer of this video here! I can't believe I missed the two kings! That was an important one. In fact I forgot about it until I saw your comment. Bulbapedia and other sources seem to like to gloss over that one for whatever reason. If anyone is to blame it's me for not looking deep enough.

@@AnimeGames16 not to worry, the gen 5 lore seems to be glossed over a lot when timelines are discussed for some reason. I don’t know why though. Various times after gen 5 their lore has been expanded in different ways, yet almost no timeline video I’ve seen includes them. Its weird and honestly a little creepy how common this is.

@@shadowmarauder6033 So true and it sucks because I love Gen 5, Black and White 1 in particular. Maybe it has to do with the stigma that surrounded it for years (I'm just grasping at straws here), remember how divisive Black and White 1 were when they came out? I'm so glad that Gen 5 has seen a huge rise in popularity within the last few years.

@@AnimeGames16 yeah, same. Gen 5 was first generation, my first game(completed) was Black 2. It made me love most unovan pokémon to this day!

I would say it's left out because gen 5 was supposed to be a reboot of the franchise entirely at first. Thats why there was no og pokemon in the game at first, only new ones.

Has it ever occurred to anyone that the war fought in Kalos might have been the same one mentioned in Unova? The Swords of Justice are based on the Musketeers, which are French. Just like Kalos

I have an interesting theory. In the original Sinnoh timeline before the player was sent back in time, Dialga and Palkia fought each other, but there was no clear winner. The end result was the universe splitting, with Dialga resolving in one universe and Palkia in the other. In Dialga's universe, Dialga is worshipped as Almighty Sinnoh and Palkia is almost completely forgotten (with the little remains of evidence being the lady in Celestic Town that shows a picture) and in Palkia's universe, Palkia is worshipped while Dialga is mostly forgotten. Some time after the split, the events of Pokemon Diamond play out in Dialga's universe and the events of Pearl play out in Palkia's. After the player becomes Champion, Arceus sees potential in them, reuniting to universal counterparts an one while sending them to Hisui, where the events of Legends Arceus play out. Afterwards, the two once seperate timelines merge into one, where the events of Pokemon Platinum play out.

I saw this theory before and really liked it personally I think there will be Legends games for every generation that got an Upper version that will serve to consolidate and streamline the timeline in the future.

Overall spot on timeline but, you missed the part where the first non Divine Pokemon appear. You said it was fossil Pokemon like kabutops and tyrunt. It would actually be mew since it is the ancestor of all Pokemon. All Pokémon were mew at one point and different Mews evolved to adapt to their environment. And since all news adapted and evolved into different fossil Pokemon Mew became extremely rare because it'd be really hard to find a mew that hasn't evolved or adapted.

Actually, there has been no indication that Mega Evolution only exists in a different timeline. For all we know, Mega evolution is still relatively new, and therefore hasn't made it out of Kalos at the time of X/Y. Although ORAS had it, that is an alternate universe, but that doesn't mean all Mega Evolutions are an alternate universe. Dynamax is unique to Galar, but that doesn't mean Galar is an alternate Timeline either.

I don’t really know if you can even count the let’s go games as cannon to the mega timeline since red, blue and green are in those games and it just muddies the timeline and is just kind of a bad move also the fact that fire red and leaf green exist and there more likely to take place in the mega timeline (even if there’s no megas in those games)
