I like what you say here Luuk. I like that your being introspective into your play. I like folding to 3-bets at low stakes, because the 3 bets are more rare and usually strong KK or AA hands.

I'm realizing I fold 34-ish percent of the time in this situation, at a high-rake environment. I'll make sure to have a look at what hands I called when I shouldn't have. Bedankt voor jouw tijd, Luuk!

34% is pretty good here overall and already much closer to the correct numbers than many others do. Nice work!

@@LuukBotter86 On 12:39 last hand : imagine myself in this situation, and it feels like 1 )we having less implied odds because holding Qs( and of course 3d), 2) at the same time unblock KKxx 3) Also, as we know people 3bet so bad hands, feels like decision becomes also more dependent On-Opponnent-Read/Stat/History I find this spot very hard!

Can you make some side mentions on how to play PLO situations where you do not have to pay any rake. I often try to use these kinds of videos to learn how to play better at our local bars homegame.

No.1- 3 bet frequentcy is high in short handed low stakes. No.2- Solvers Have a LEAD RANGE that is as much as 2/3 of its ENTIRE range in some of these spots. Overall, your game is much too PASSIVE This dynamic happens when I play: I limp hands I dont want to fold up-front, and i defend the smaller single raise, and get into more Multi-way pots. Less money committed, more money to potentially win. These hands become raising hands in late position when it folds to me

Nice, interesting and Mind-changing video. I thought we were forced to call a 3bet cause pot odds without looking at the rake at micro and low stakes.

Thanks! Yes there is quite a big difference between the stakes you play (rake you pay) and the amount of hands you can continue with when getting 3-bet. In this situation its not all about the odds we are getting to make the call, other elements also play a role, like rake for example, but also position and SPR

They need to lower the rake at lower stakes. My idea to is rake the big pots a little more and have less rake on the smaller pots.

Hey Luuk, I was wondering if there is way to calculate your equity to help you be more accurate when stacking off. I know the method of counting outs and multiplying it by 4 on the flop and by 2 on the turn that is used in hold´em, giving us a rough estimate, though the calculation changes when having 10+ outs. Does that still apply here or is there another way?. How does backdoor draws have an effect on the equity calculation? Thanks for everything Luuk, take care.

That rule of thumb is also usefull here yes. Its not exactly that, but good enough in my opinion!

At 6:50 are you ever bet folding?
@LuukBotter86

Good question, I would bet small river yes and it seems hard for villain to find bluffs against a 1/3 pot bet if he raises. Not sure though

Does this video say that games with high rakes should fold when 3bet? Should all hands in the video fold against 3bet below small stakes? If so, why would you fold? 1.As9d7c6s 2.Ks4cTdJs 3.7hTsJcTh 4.3dAsQsJh
@LuukBotter86

Yes these hands should mainly be a fold. It can change depending on your opponents 3-bet range, but at low stakes you often should fold around 40%-50% of your range when facing a 3bet. When rake is high we should be careful with passive preflop actions as we will be guarenteed to pay the rake.

Everytime the rake gets lower you can call a few more hands. for example CO vs BTN 3bet 100bb (fold %) PLO 50 - 47% PLO 500 - 26% PLO 5000 - 21%

Great Video Luuk! Indeed, when I play (mostly PLO20/50), a lot of those hands you show I end up calling even though my (very nitty) intuition told me I should fold those. TBH I wasn't thinking about rake but mostly about "domination". The natural follow question to this video would be: If we start folding around 1/3 to 2/5 of hands to 3-bets, villains who notice this might assume (incorrectly) that we are over-folding and will start 3-betting us more. So how do we adjust?: Do we start open raising a bit less so that we can continue when 3-bet more often? OR Do we continue to open raise same hands, but now start to 4-bet more hands? Or could it be some combination of the 2?

If your opponents start becoming more aggresive when it comes to calling and defending preflop IP, we should first of all raise a bit tighter as you will have less fold equity preflop. Which is the best result we can have, winning the blinds without paying rake. If your opponent becomes extremely wide, then we can also 4-bet more absolutely, but i wouldnt go to crazy there. To give yourself some idea it might help to look into 4-betting ranges vs a tight 3bet range and compare that with a 4bet range vs a wide 3bet range. This is a good first step imo.

Here's what I've learned in the first 5 minutes: this guy plays PLO poorly. Ironically, his commentary is fairly good, meaning he often sees his poor choices for what they are during analysis. If only this guy could play the way he knows he should, bet his winning hands more, and check preflop with marginal hands more, he'd probably be a good PLO player 😁!
