There were multiple time during reading this that I had to physically put the book down and say "It's okay. She has to marry Maxon. It will be OKAY"

I seriously don't see America being a rebel. Halfway through a mission she'll probably decide that she likes the grass and wants to marry the grass instead of Maxon and Aspen.

I love how everyone in the comments is slamming America, because we are all SO ANNOYED with her. Stop being so ridiculously indecisive, America. Aspen LEFT you, and Maxon was willing to give you time to get over him. Obviously, you can see who the better guy here is, right? SHE MAKES ME SO MAD.

SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVENT READ THE ELITE!!! Aspen is sooooo hateful! He is always pushing America to think that Maxon is fake and the worst, that she isnt good enough to be a princess only to get her to love him(Aspen).

I wanted King Clarkson to die SO MUCH in this book, he made me want to cry for what he did to Maxon, because Maxon is the greatest guy ever.

When I was reading this book, I stopped and ranted at the book telling America how stupid she was. If I was in public I would've looked crazy.

That whole thing where you said "is her father part of the rebels?" Gave me the kick in the ass I needed to finish the series just to find out if you're right.

This booktalk couldn't be more Accurate! America was SO annoying and frustrating all throughout this book! When she kept going back to Aspen, I was like WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! Maxon is so sweet and AHH.. Gosh AMERICA!! The Elite is my least favorite of the series/trilogy! Also, Wow Christine, your really great at foreshadowing!☺️

I really liked Aspen in the beginning of the selection but in the Elite he just started to get on nerves I just didn't think he was really that necessary in the book

America was so freakin annoying in this book! I cannot even tell you the number of times I threw the book across the room because of how freakin annoyed I was! I hate indecision is one thing that annoys me most(that's why I can't watch Jane the Virgin) and she was being so annoying and so selfish and oh my gosh!!!!!!!! I cannot explain how happy I am to see that other people hated her in this book. So much yes.

I literally slammed the book down while reading this after the part where Marlee and that Woodwork (something like that) guard were getting struck publically and literally, like the next day or sometime soon after, she's going off on some sweet and romantic date with Aspen. A guard. I just love America. That girl is so smart. (sarcasm)

I love this book talk because you almost exactly vocalized my feelings. I am so sick of the America Aspen and Maxon love triangle (reading The One right now). I totally wished that the actual book series had Maxon's POV included and not just a novella. One thing that I hate is that Maxon is always like you need to trust me, trust me but then I think if this was me in the same situation at 17 I think I would have reacted the same way. My boyfriend's dating multiple people and I'm really into him and to actually see it I can see how that would set me off. Great book talk Christine 10 out 10.

I was glad when America came up with her project and she said I can't go out with a bang. I hated the scenes with aspen until after Maxon made out with Celeste. I still don't completely trust Maxon.

Argh I hate Aspen so much especially in this book! I just wanted him to go away the whole time. I love Maxon, he's the perfect boyfriend and they belong together :)

I was so frustrated with it because all America ever does is play the victim role and expect everyone to bend for her, but yet she can't ever do anything for anyone else.

I can say myself through out this book America was frustrating, but on the other hand I loved how passionate she was. It was cool to see how America didn't care about what other people thought about her ideas and opinions. I think, personally, that the world could use a little more of that.

I'm actually so shocked... this is the first booktalk where i've been on the complete opposite spectrum from you! This book made me so freaking mad, but honestly... most of that was Maxon's fault. I feel like i'll get a lot of backlash for this... Okay, I understand it was stupid of America to show the book in front of everyone and that it betrayed Maxon, and i'm still so angry Maxon doesn't know Aspen is there... but those were my ONLY problems with America in this entire book. My goodness, don't get me started on Maxon. He acts like it's just a given that America should know that he loves her, but then once she finally lets her guard down, he's gone and making out and getting cozy with other girls! I mean, of course he still has to see them, because that's a part of the selection! But there is a way to do that while keeping them at arm's length. If he gets mad at her for Aspen after that whole 'burning off steam' thing with Celeste... i'm going to lose it. And the whole Marlee thing? I would've acted the _exact_ same way as America. From our point of view, we really DON'T know that he couldn't have stopped it, and it was just absolute bull that she is supposed to move past it like it was nothing. Even if she hadn't pushed Maxon away, she would've been extremely upset, and he uses it as an excuse to go and cozy up with Kriss? um... WHAT!? At that point, America had in no way said that she wanted to leave, and it was obvious she needed some time to blow off her anger... and now he's all of a sudden got eyes for someone else, and expects her to be okay with it. Now, Maxon is constantly attempting to make America jealous with Kriss _on purpose_ and it's actually making me so angry I can't see straight. I honestly don't know how this series can redeem itself with me... I really don't.

It has a section about "Where are they now?" with the rest of the Elite, and in Elise's little blurb thing it explains that "the war with New Asia was mostly for show. It began over a minor trade issue and was amplified and perpetuated by King Clarkson. He kept the war going so that the public would focus less on issues at home . . ." +polandbananasBOOKS So that explains a lot.

Was I the only one realizing the change that America went through ?! ...from deciding between Aspen and Maxon and always questioning her feelings to finally realizing that she loves him and she doesnt wanna lose him and WANTS TO FIGHT FOR HIM !!!! That was a big turnaround in my point of view. I loved the last scene with Maxon, it made me tear-up because i felt like America finally got herself together! She gained new confidence that she hasnt had before because she always kept questioning and doubting herself and the selection, but Finally she is motivated and confident. That's how i saw the end of the book and the scene with The King Showed us that it's gonna be hard for her because he reminded her how much of a better choice the other girls would be but i the final scene with the maids was like lighting a fire in America's confindence. That's why i'm thrilled to see how the Story goes on.

hahaha I LOVE how you just vented for almost 15 minutes! It. Was. Awesome! Ive heard these same rants from the Bestie who read it. I let someone borrow it before I read it. Waiting to get it back but am hesitant cause to wait til FREAKING MAY for the One to come out! Why?!

Warning! Don't read this if you haven't read the book yet! Spoiler alert if not! This book really pissed me off until like the last 100 pages. I really was positive that I wouldn't like it until they got locked in the room together. I also thought it was a cute idea of him showing the princess suite to her, but I fell like Keira put in in at the wrong time. It should have been revealed at a time that they were being all lovey-dovey. I would have loved it a lot more if that had been the case! I do like that she's gravitating to one guy though finally. And I love that line where she says, "I'm going to fight for him and the others girls won't know what hit them." And that last line by Mary I loved too! "If she's going to win, we've got a lot of work to do...we've to to make a plan." I love the character building of the maids in this book and how close they got with America. Loved that! I also love the party with the Italians. Those girls and their wine were killing me! Haha :) Overall this book wasn't my favorite especially compared to the selection! I loved the first 50 or so pages of it and the last 100 pages of it, but I really hated the middle of it. And the whipping scene with Marlee and her love made me cringe and want to cry. Really descriptive and I almost thought that it was unnecessary to be that detailed and violent with it, but I think it did well in building America's character at the same time and then finding out that Maxon has actually been going through that for a long time made me really love Maxon and understand that if he really could have done anything at all he would have in a second. All right that's the end of my rant. I just finished the book today if you can't tell hahaha. I can't wait to read The One and I hope that all of this ends well. I think it would be such a cute ending if America gets caught with Aspen, she gets whipped for it but Maxon volunteers to take half of her beatings out of love and forgiveness for her, they both get stripped to 8's, and Marlee becomes the princess with Carter as prince! And having the King die wouldn't be too bad either especially considering that horrible conversation that he has with America at the end. Agh I wanted to kill him after all of that. She is trying so hard to be princess like material!! She is taking private lessons with Silvia for goodness sakes!! Anyone else think all of this?? Haha alright well thank you for your time if you read all of this!

OMG. A little prediction here : In the third book, Maxon will marry America. And if you look at the covers (The Selection (turquoise/blue), The Elite (red) and The One (White)), it's actually the colors of the American's flag. Let's just pretend that the color turquoise is actually blue and plus, they're actually kinda close if im not wrong. Then Maxon will marry America and name Illea after her, America. OMG. The king must die and Aspen and Kriss must get out of their way. America has to wake up and stop thinking about Aspen!!!! OMG. i really want Aspen to go away!

I just finished the secomd book (I started all this The Selection obsession 5 days ago) and I.. I can't even... America was so damn annoying! And Aspen has to dissappear... The end of the book made me weep a bit, during that rebel attack, even if I knew America is gonna win (obviously) I really stood there and thought that she would leave. She ruined everything just because she was mad... And now the king hates her. During their conversation when the king threats her I feel like she could have said something about her little advantage with princess Nicoletta of Italy. She had political connections, she could brag about that in front of the king...

I mean I kinda hate the "America" that we see in this book but I liked The Elite's ending. I especially liked when Anne said they should have a plan if America's gonna win this thing! I think she'll be a badass towards the king in the next book! Will be reading the next book later.

So I totally agree with Christine about America. But throughout the whole book I was having a mixture of feelings. She just got over her ex just to find that he's back at the palace wanting her back. The prince favors her, but she's struggling with the idea of being a princess. She's dealing with rebel attacks, bratty contestants (Celeste) and the confusion that comes with boys. I think what you said was exactly right, but I think I was more lenient towards America. I think she's a good character in general, and she wants to decide but it's hard because they are both people she cares about. All the drama in between is to be expected as it is meant to be shown her true struggle over her was better. That's what the series is circling around, and it's a romance novel

i am so unbelievably frustrated with this serise i can't deside between Maxon and Aspen! I always take a side with love triangles and stay there but this is the only book where I haven't.

I am so glad that I was not the only one who found this book irritating. America was such a strong and passionate character at the beginning of The Selection, but a couple pages into The Elite, she starts crying here and there and always complaining. I hated how she kept debating between Aspen and Maxon, I was like -_- dude how could you be debating this?? Maxon is so much better. I was just so frustrated each time America would meet up with Aspen, and they would make out, and all the feeling that she had built toward Maxon would crumble and we would have to start at zero again. I really liked when she got carried to her room after Marlee got whipped, and she screams to the guards to get the hell out of her room, and then she screams at her maids to get out too; I thought that was incredibly funny. Over all, I hated how the selection will go on for yet another book, but I'll admit I'm excited to see where this story goes. **** but I swear to you, if Maxon does not propose to America with in 200 pages of the next book, I'm done with the series.

So, she goes off and gets intimate with Aspen and then Marlee is doing the same thing with Carter and they get caught, they get whipped, and they get banished to an eight. BUT EVEN AFTER THAT THEY STILL GO OFF AND GET INTIMATE. I was so mad at her, there were often times that I threw the book on the ground. I mean, you expect Maxon to hold off on any other girl while you're shunning him? Even though I think it's not surprising, there seems there's something fishy about Kriss. I also read this in one day and I feel like it dragged things out way too long. IF HE KEPT SAYING HE WAS GOING TO MARRY YOU, HE WAS GOING TO MARRY YOU. He promised himself for her. And every single time he did the least bit wrong, people would tell America "The Prince really likes you. You're his favorite. You're being chosen" BUT NO. America's like "nah." I still think she doesn't know the consequences of being with Aspen. I was pretty sure that sometime in this book she was going to get caught with Aspen by a maid, the maid would have panicked and told Maxon, Maxon wouldn't do anything, but he would come to her room and be like "I trusted you." and she would've been like on her knees crying, begging for him to forgive her. Then she would have to leave, and while she was leaving the Prince would forgive her or something. Maybe I could write this book. It was obvious from page 2 she was going to get chosen. EVEN FROM THE FIRST BOOK. SO TELL US ALREADY!!!!! I agree, it should not have taken this long, a whole book, to have America bouncing back and forth between them as if it was acceptable. WAKE UP AMERICA. MAXON IS 10,000x BETTER THAN ASPEN IN ALL ASPECTS. The One, the latest and third book, is amazing! It really wrapped up the series in a way that didn't leave too many wholes and the characters really are developed more.

OMG, YOU HATE ASPEN TOO? I am so sick and tired of him just being there as another problem for her to worry about! I really hope that they focus more on changing the government in The One, or else I'll be super ticked. I just want America to dump Aspen for good and go and have beautiful children with Maxon. If you haven't read Elite, I would avoid this comment/rant. Why? Because it involves possible spoilers so tread carefully now. (Unless you don't care about spoilers, then, please, go on.) Remember, I warned you. I've said this before and I'm saying it here (sorry if I'm being annoying): These first three books would be much better as just one freaking book. I wouldn't care if it was 400/500 pages; Kiera Cass' writing makes the story fly by anyway. BUT. If the rebel attacks or the war had actually halted the Selection during The Elite and they had to cancel the Selection, I would have understood the need for the trilogy. Like maybe the competition is canceled, so everyone goes back to their old lives, but everything's different, obviously. Singer family is way more open to Aspen being a potential husband for America (if the Selection is officially over or if she leaves) as he's a soldier and a Two (if I remember correctly) now. Of course, going back home, she's very indecisive still about it all, but her family might be fretting over Plan B for suitable husbands since they don't know if the Selection will still happen, so they're thinking about maybe Aspen. Then, we'd get more reason and backstory to their relationship and why we care about the two of them together as America thinks about that Plan B. Because for the majority of these books, I seriously don't understand why they're still together aside from just "we've known each other forever and liked each other forever, so why fix what ain't broke?" Then, the One might be restarting the Selection later on as Maxon still needs a bride (I have no idea how that would actually happen, though, unless they keep the Elite off-limits until the competition restarts to avoid any Elite getting married to other people because they want to restart the competition.) If Aspen is actually more fleshed out and I care about their relationship, it would be interesting to see it restarted as it would give the love triangle a lot more strength, I think, versus a weak setup that clearly shows the winner with an annoying third character in Aspen vying for America's love. Really rambling and random, but I just thought of it when re-watching these videos as I just want a stronger love triangle and am still annoyed with this being a trilogy as The Elite is mostly America being wishy-washy, imo. The Elite is, honestly, the book you can skip in this series, imo (as long as you say who's been eliminated and why for The One). /end rant (thank you for reading and sorry for the long comment/rant.)

I've had bad reading slumps lately but this series has helped I think it's to do with the shortness of the book it feels easy and not like I'm forcing myself so personally I like the book sizes
