In this video I go over how to rebuild your fuel system, replacing carburetor, fuel pump, fuel lines and all filters. Also show some common issues for not running correct or no start. This covers all Ranger models equipped with the 500 carb engine from 2001-2008.

It's been about 5 years since mine quit running. Added more fuel back then still wouldn't run so put in back of my big building. After just watching this video I see it has the same fuel pickup tube,screen,check valve that my bobcat skidsteer has that also has the same tubing rot problem. (Probably was the problem all along) of course now I get to replace everything like I just watched you do. I will also try your recommended true blue fuel line. (What size do you use?) Great video time to get dirty!

I have a question on which carburetor rebuild kit you’ve had the most success with? I have ordered a few throughout the years n with my experience at least, the jets, needles n or some other small components aren’t never the same as the original. Also I’ve heard u mention that you’ve had good experience with a certain brand of aftermarket carbs I’m wondering if you’re willing to share that information. If you see my inquiries thanks for all ur help u have already shared in your videos!

I've a 03 Ranger 6x6. The insulation in front of the exhaust manifold caught fire. It shorted my fuel pump wires and i think the relay. Do you know where the relay is?

Thanks for the info. I don’t understand why the carbinlet manifold boot has to be replaced. Any cracks on the outside don’t necessarily translate to ingress thru to the inlet. You’d need to see cracks on the outside that correlate with cracks on the inside of the boot, or am I missing something?

Your welcome. You are correct however a very common failure is we’re it seals to the cylinder head. Plus on a machine that’s pushing 20 years old it’s good to have a complete new system to insure another 15 plus years of trouble free service.

I see you used hose clamps on the fuel pickup. How did you get that back into the tank, didn't think it would fit in that hole?
@montemania198210
@montemania198210 Жыл бұрын
I put the hose in tank then pull it through gas fill neck, install pickup filter and clamp then pull it back into the tank. The upper clamp has to be a spring tension clamp, once it’s on snip the ears off and push it back into tank. Hope this helps.

So the aftermarket carbs will leak cause the floats and seats in them are to weak for fuel pump (aftermarket meant for vacuum pumps). If your oem is leaking from over flow check float height and possibly replace the needle and seat.

Be careful with the combination of a Chinese fuel pump and a Chinese carb. The Chinese carbs have a weaker needle and seat than the Japanese Mikuni and sometimes the Chinese pumps pump 6-9 psi instead 4-7 as spec. I had a pump that was flooding out the carb. Ended up using a niche brand carb and an osias brand pump based on my research and that worked very well. If you can rebuild that mikuni carb it’s a much better quality product than the clones.

I experienced that problem myself. After I replaced the carb as well as the fuel pump and all the other lines that this video recommends due to letting the Ranger sit for too long and the gas going bad and messing up the entire fuel delivery system. When I started it, the carb was overflowing. I assumed that it was the carb and had the supplier send me a new one and it did the same thing. Then I found out that some of the (cheap) fuel pumps have too much pressure. Most of the ones on Amazon don't say how much pressure they have but one that I saw said it operates at 3 to 5 psi. Another one said that it operates at 6 to 9 psi and was supposedly the correct aftermarket pump for my vehicle. I checked the pressure on the one that I had recently installed and it was at 6 psi (although I'm not sure how accurate my pressure gauge is). I ordered the 3 to 5 psi pump today and hope it get it installed shortly. Will give an update at that time.

WELL LOng story but this thing is the most gutless thing iv ever had with the stock carb flote its kinda hard to see wair it might be level but i reajusted it and added a fuel filter with a return pipe on it so it wont have that much psi hoping this dose the trick its probably one of the worst 4 wheelers iv ever had but then a gain some dush bag has butchered it up in pritty good shape thank you

@@montemania198210 I did that was ran to nothing when we just got ours im rebuilding the carb .I saw some of the same models had like a pressure hose setup deal that acts as a speed governor that it can connect to but that was not on our 2005 polaris ranger 500 only the loose cable off the top of the carb . then I saw a couple other videos where the oem carb did not have the outlet on top nor the hoses for the governor. should i cap it off ?

@@nathanw5747 yes cap it off. That’s goes to vacuum speed regulator if equipped. Cap it off, carb slide will now open all the way.
