+1 The exact thorough content I was craving while crossing some at this price point- you have my sub! Love listening to the longer format while driving, my guy! New to the hobby. Any thoughts on how they might compare in value: reward vs the Klipsch rp600's @ $400 (renewed)? Both run as 2.1 setup 10" sub enough with these guys in a small living room setup? Any value suggestion there? Thx brotha

@@NemoPropaganda Each reviewer tells/said different things like Kristy said the Klipsch RP600M II is Awesome no brainer and Ron from NRD said they are Fatiguing and cant listen to them !
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda Жыл бұрын
@@RanTausi if you are familiar with Kristi you would know she likes a brighter sound and if you're familiar with Ron's taste you would know he is sensitive to any boost in the upper midrange & lower treble regions so they are actually saying the same things just from the perspective of their taste. This is why when following any reviewer it is improtant to follow the body of their work so that you may become familiar with their taste and personality. If Kristi doesn't like a speaker I know that I may still enjoy it because I enjoy a darker sound than she does. If Ron doesn't like a speaker good chance I'll agree with him because I am also sensitive to the same region he is. Hope that helps clarify things.

Excellent, excellent work my man 👏🏾. I'm running the R700s and R400 as my front stage on an Emotiva XPA-3, with a Yamaha A2080. I can echo all of the commonalities with these Reserve speakers. They're truly amazing-sounding speakers. In addition to the superb imaging, sound stage, and vocal presentation, the bass from the R700s is full enough to run without subs. They deliver solid, accurate bass that hits with authority, and digs deep enough to make you swear the subs are turned on.

I picked up a pair of the R 100s on sale during prime day for $429. At that price they are an amazing value! I completely agree with your thoughts and those of the other reviewer‘s as well. I do find them to be a little bass light, but mine are not quite broken in yet as I just got them yesterday. That’s OK though, I can easily add one of the subs around my house to them for a fantastic 2.1 system.

hey man! Love how you also summarize the opinion of other reviewers. How would you compare the mids of the reserve series to the buchardt s400 mkII's? I know they're in a completely difference price point, but I can get the buchardts used for a really good price. I tried and returned the ELAC UBR62, because female voices would sometimes feel a bit shouty to me. Bass doesn't matter much since i'll add a sub, I'm mainly interested in vocals, since I enjoy rich sounding midrange.

S400 is superior overall yes, as far as tonal character or coloration in the midrange I think Reserve has more flavor in the midrange if that makes sense but I would still choose S400 MK2 unless I could not afford it.

Great review. What are your main satellite speakers you referred to in the review that you said were better? The R100 would be for a desktop system or used with a sub. Myself, I would use a digital eq, and roll them off at 80 hz, or higher if you have dual subs that play well above 80 hz. Then these would shine.

That high end is great for seniors. After 72 years and 1000+ rock concerts, everyone needs a supportive tweeter. Indeed, they do pair easily with a variety of subs and amps. At 12.2 pounds, I can move them around without a fuss. We have enjoyed the R100s with a fine high-end amp from Rotel, an indestructable family room amp from Yamaha and random surround sound rigs for football parties.

I had the speakers for klipsch in this range, the RP600m, and returned them for the R200's. My impression is that the klipsch have that waveguide tweeter that brings out the dialog in a great way, and they "matched" the bass to that by making the cabinet a non-braced, large-bass-port mid-base centric, ringing handbell...why it's so sensitive to distance from wall. Everything played through the klipsch sounds like klipsch house sound. Really great and fun for movies, AVR stuff. Relative to that, the Polk is dampened, controlled, and does only what it can do, as best as it can do it. Great for classical music, but movie dialog can get a little distant depending on the audio mix. R200's are basically more transparent, IMO.

The rp600m (I had some) had a bad crossover. There was a canyon between mids and treble response. The drivers never "met" where they should have overlapped. They sounded harsh, shouty and veiled to me. The presence lacked. I got rid of mine for how badly flawed they were.

I'm torn between the Chora 806 and these Polk R100. I'm trying to put my very first system together, but I'm having hard times because of the difficulty to demo everything and my listening/room limitations. I was going towards the Chora 806 mainly because of these reasons: - low volume listening, i live in an old apartment - 50/50 music and movies, so details and fast response are important I think for movies - high sensitivity - other reviewers said that the Chora are not picky about placement. I need to put them near the wall, not because of aesthetic but because I would bump into them when entering the livingroom. In Italy the Polk r100 are almost the same price of the Chora 806, between 500 and 600 euros. Which do you is the more appropriate speaker for this use? Would the NAD 316BEE be a good partner? Great review as always, very informative

@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 2 жыл бұрын
both have a big sound stage with great imaging but are otherwise total opposites. Chora 806 leans towards cool, analytical, highly detailed while the R100 leans warmer overall with more tonal richness. The chora 806 is the better speaker from a technical stand point with a far more refined top end with loads more detail but the R100 tonal richness in the midrange is what pulls you in to enjoy the music. Both are awesome and I like both a lot but for very different reasons.

Hey Bro, I don't have any experience with NAD but either speaker will be good for you. The R100 can be close to a wall also due to the way they have designed their port. But to answer your question for mixed system I think Chora 806 is the wise choice, if your NAD is bright you might need to remove 1-2dB with tone controls as the Chora sound best with neutral/warm amps.

Hi Nemo, I have the R100’s hooked up to a Bryston 4b sst. Someone is selling a near mint kef ls50 meta for $700, you consider this an upgrade over the r100? I’m also using a Svs sb-1000 pro.
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 5 ай бұрын
The LS50M is a much better speaker thant he R100 however, the tonal profiles are so different it doesn't matter. What really matters is personal taste here, if you prefer the warmer sound that's the R100. The LS50 Meta is more neutral/analytical/detailed sound. If you've never had a speaker like that in your home and you have the extra cash I say go for it!! If anything you'll learn a little more about your taste and you may enjoy having two speakers with such different sounds. Personally I like both so I have 2 sets of main speakers depending on my mood I either do the analytical or the warm pair. Hope that helps.

Well, here goes. I had a set of Focal Aria 906's. You know $2200, all the detail. They edged out the $3000 B&W 705s2 for me. One day I'm listening to louder music and it was obvious the tweeter rang and there was a scoop out in the mids. Ughg. High end, I don't think so. I auditioned a set of Polk R-100's. The response was very even. Warm. And very transparent. I wasn't lacking any detail. They also scale up with better electronics. So yes, I sold the Aria and for the reserve. Am I saying they are superior to the focal aria 902 and B&W 705s2? Yes, without hesitation. Those two are overpriced nonsense. Polk has great engineering, not boutique hype. If you gave the Polk an esoteric name like "Orgasme sonore" and a real veneer, you could charge $2500 a pair. Add a sub, and I like them better than the Buchardt S400MkII. I love the R100, I still own them and agree with a lot of what you said, I do think the Aria 906 has much better definition in the treble and the R100 cannot match it's detail but the R100 midrange is superior, either way your comment is a perfect example that personal taste is a huge factor in this hobby and often times it's not about getting the best stuff, it's about getting the stuff you like & love! To me that's the S400 MK2, I have much more expensive speakers that are technically better but I don't care because the S400 MK2 is the sound I love :) and same for you, R100 is the sound you love so it doesn't matter if something more expensive is better or not. Congratulations for getting to this point, a lot of audiophiles are still chasing the dragon.

Hi there! Thanks for the awesome review. Which ones will you recommend between Polk Reserve R100 / Polk Reserve R200 / Arendal 1961 Bookshelf? I am looking to setup my first stereo system for 505/50 Music / Movies use. Sound staging / imaging, details, vocals are important to me. Bass not important, as I'll be adding a Sub anyway. Thanks!
@NemoPropaganda

mmm, that's a hard one, the Arendal 1961 has a more refined sound than the Polk Reserve but I really like the sound of the Polk Reserve also. Anytime I am stuck like this I suggest to choose based on aesthetics. I know it sounds silly but I really like both of them. Benifit of the Arendal is you can rotate it to the rear in the future and upgrade your front speakers, if that is part of your future plan then I would maybe go for Arendal but if it's going to stay as the main speaker forever then it gets a little harder.

@@NemoPropaganda Thanks for the response. Yeah, in that case other factors make sense cost / anesthetics etc. Btw, why do you recommend Arendal 1961 to be used as surround speakers in long term, instead of main ones? Is it because they won't get loud or need too much power to drive?

Personally, I think Monitor Audio have designed their Bronze and Silver line to satisfy the home theater listener. I tried the Silver 100s 6th Ed. and liked the SS width, the lows thru the lower mids but thought the upper mids through the highs sounded more like a PA speaker in comparison to my Focal 807Ws. If I didn't have the Focals I would have been satisfied with the Silvers but in comparison, they didn't have the sparkle, delicate and airy highs. The Silvers just took that energy and threw it at you, still, they were nice. I think the Polk R200 would be a nice fit, perhaps down the road if I want a smaller speaker and if they are easy to drive and excel at low to moderate levels.

I have both at home that I am choosing between. The Focal energises the air, projects the sound and details more and much wider. Albeit it has a slight shouty megaphone tinge to it. The R100 does not energise the air at all times with little details like the Chora. It stays quiet and only produces sound when really required. Neutral and full bodied sound. Both are great speakers. However, because my room is not very large and not treated, I am leaning towards the Polks, but I would be happy with either. If you are in a modern, small to mid, open plan apartment with large glass sliding doors, the extra details and projection of the Chora may prove a little too much at louder volumes. At lower volumes the Chora is fantastic, producing light and detailed sound.
