Pollux is a quirky dog that is for sure! Dogs do some strange things, and having a quirky dog brings new meaning to Pollux and his dog habits. I am thinking Pollux’s nipping is maybe a coping mechanism he started when he lived in the shelter. I can just imagine at night how scary that place must of been for him and can see Pollux relieving his anxiety by nipping nervously on whatever he had. You can tell he is so grateful for his wonderful home now and having his own toys. Love seeing how much you love and spoil him! He is such a sweetie!! 💙

Dreambones are my little dogs' favorites! We always have every version they make. We go to Target and come out with $75 worth of dog stuff every time! We spoil them rotten but they are so worth it!

Renee, you might have discovered why Pollux chews and nippes everything😄 After seeing him falling asleep chewing his doughnut.He looks for comfort. Poor Pollux, we'll never know what he went through before he got to the shelter.Fortunatelly you came across his way and now he's getting all the love he deserves.

I love Pollux's quirks! I have left so many comments and questions about him that now whenever I hit a capital P his name comes up!! That was so sweet that he brought Pooh to the couch. He misses her and I think he knows that you miss her. He seems to have a big heart! Maxie always sits so proper. He looks photo ready all the time!!

Everybody in my house loved this video. We lost our dog to D.M. almost five years ago, so I love watching your two. Now, it’s just three cats here, one of which sat and watched the entire video, mesmerized by Pollux. Just thought Pollux would like to know he has a big fan 😊❤️

For some animals, life in an animal shelter is great but for some it is an anxiety and stress ridden torture to be endured. And that can can be even if the kindest staff and volunteers are there. The noise from other animals, metal carts by cleaning staff and doing medications and feedings, metal cage doors or kennel gates clanging, visitors looking and poking, children running and yelling, babies screaming etc etc. They are not quiet places. For high strung or sensitive animals it can be hell. Some hide and don't show well to potential adopters. How many times have you heard pet parents say several days or weeks after adoption the animals real personality came out? A lot of that is the stress of the shelter is gone. Some of the other animals suck and chew on fabrics which is as close to nursing as they can get to give themselves comfort. Like a kid sucking their thumb for comfort. I think Pollux is a high strung dog and he comforts himself by suckling and chewing. He was chewing on one specific toy during the video. Go back and look at the relaxation on his face eyes closed nerves at rest. Just give him some extras so he can hide them outdoors. Maxxie watches him and follows him a bit when Pollux runs with a toy. It's kind of like, "I don't know what you are doing with that thing but I support you! "

I second your thoughts about some shelter animals and stress. My littlest cat is just such a pet. I can see the remnants of post traumatic stress from year and a half at the crowded shelter in her, and she needs to be treated with kid gloves. She’s a sweet dear, and we would do anything to make her as comfortable as possible.

He is just chilled.....love his summer hair cut. I love to see Pollux doing zoomies....can you imagine Pollux living in a square box for all his life and then to now have a yard of his own. It boggles my mind that Pollux spent the first year and a half of his life in the shelter! He's such a handsome, good-natured boy, you think he would've been snatched up right away. Did the shelter give any indication as to why potential adopters took a pass on him? I'm glad he wound up with you and your family; you're a great Dog Mom, Renee, and I really appreciate the way you let Pollux be Pollux, quirks and all. I have to admit, I teared up a little when Pollux jumped on the couch to "share" his donut with Moo; it felt like Pollux was thinking, "Hey, you didn't get a toy -- here, look at mine!" I'm looking forward to learning more about Maxxie!

Pollux has always allowed Maxxie to be in control. And to this day, Pollux will not go through any door in front of Maxxie. He waits for me and Maxxie to pass first....then he follows behind us. So sweet!

I just came across your videos and I've been binge watching. It's amazing to me how much Pollux looks just like my Sophie. Face wise. The same expressions, the same looks. We lost her a couple years ago but it's heartwarming watching all his antics. She used to do the zoomies. She used to do the get down on the front paws to play. Nice memories.

Pollux is smart. He wants indoor toys and outdoor toys. If he hides it in the wheat, it won’t get run over by the lawnmower. My 87 pound boxer mix has a tire from a pressure washer that is her favorite outdoor toy. She tries to sneak it in the house occasionally, but we can’t let her have it inside because she throws it. We’d be buying a new tv if she had it inside. She adores a squeaky toy, but most last less than five minutes. She has had a couple that were supposed to be practically indestructible that lasted almost a week. She’s on cloud nine til she kills the squeaker, then she is depressed for days.

I loved this video. I love seeing how Pollux has come so far from being in the shelter. I do have a thought on why he chews on things like he's nursing. I honestly believe it's because he was the last of his litter to get a home. I have a pug who chews his favorite toy and he must have it at bed time or he is looking everywhere and will not go to sleep without it and if he does he doesn't sleep well, he's restless all night. He to was the last puppy to leave his litter. I believe it reminds him off home. I've also read somewhere that a dog does not really need to be separated from the mom until ten weeks of age. This is because the mom teaches them things up until they are about ten weeks old. I think one video you said Pollux was brought in with several other puppies at a young age. This may be a factor in why he nurses on his toys. I feel like that's the reason my Pete chews his elephant ( aka Mr Elfie) until he falls asleep every night. Hope this helps. Give Pollux and the maxxer hugs. They are precious.

Pollux was brought to the shelter when he was 6-7 weeks old with the entire liter. He was the last one adopted. I'm told his remaining sister was adopted way before him so he was there alone for a very long time. And he was in a run by himself also. He wasn't able to bond with any of the other dogs which is so sad. But now he has us!! And he loves Maxxie to pieces....the perfect brother 💗

You two are so lovely to give Pollux such a loving home. Think in the beginning when he just did not know how to climb stairs, and to choose the cold tiles in the kitchen because he knew nothing else. We have been thinking about getting a dog and maybe two if they are used to being together. We have had dogs for a long time and a dog-free home is something so empty. They are perfect for each other! Pollux is sort-of chilled out by Maxxie's laziness....yet Pollux keeps Maxxie moving. They have several play sessions each day which is good for them both. Plus Maxxie now has a partner to run around the yard with. They are a great combo!

Hello from France ! I just love to watch your adorable dogs. As a owner of a big chewer dog myself I can only recommand you to try deer antlers for Pollux (you can find it on Amazon). It is safe for them to chew and even swallow small pieces. Those things saved my furniture ! 😅

Hi Renee, In reference to Pollux chewing if he does it again PetSmart has a product Bitter Apple spray. My dog Nala decided she was going to chew on a door mat. Once I sprayed the Bitter Apple Spray on it she never chewed on it again. You can spray it on plants too. Loving the Pollux and Maxxie vlogs. They need their own channel. 👍😁

Our Scoober chewed as a comfort at night. He never grabbed a toy, but a empty water bottle (WITHOUT the plastic ring & lid). See what Pollux does with a empty water bottle; remember to remove the lid & plastic lid. Scoober had to have a new one, once it won't crackle so much. Love, LOVE Pollux! And the fact that you rescued him from the shelter. All our pets are rescues, too. And I have rescued over a dozen dogs dumped in our neighborhood and worked with a rescue group to get them wonderful (screened), forever homes. Once we got to 3 rescues, we had to reach out to a rescue for help. I ended up with one more rescue, my little Sienna (a long-haired dachshund). I only had her for 7 weeks, found her an amazing forever home but she had bonded so much with me that she won't eat or even drink for them. On the 3rd day they called me. I went there & she drank & drank. So happy to see me. So I brought her home and she has been my shadow ever since. Going on 8 years now.

Pollux is adorable! He has something in common with my dog, Tater! When I got him at 10 weeks old I bought him a lambswool type fabric toy shaped like a gingerbread man. It was his favorite, he took it everywhere. That toy had gotten a little worn spot on the foot where he would pick it up, so then around 6 months old, he discovered that it was fun to take all the stuffing out of it through the hole. Once he removed it, he couldn't care less about the stuffing but he LOVED the empty fabric! I got him a new ginger dude exactly the same and he emptied the stuffing out of it in less than 3 minutes! He's 11 yrs. old now and he still loves to empty the stuffing out of all his new toys when he receives them.😄 He absolutely loves his many shrazzled pieces of furry dog toy fabric and doesn't want me to throw them out! Im just so glad he has never chewed anything that I did not give to him. He seems to understand and I am so grateful for that. 🐾💖🐾

Pollux with his new donut jumping on the couch to be next to mooyee with that look on his face, then changing his mind jumping on the other chair, just to change his mind again and jumping on the floor gnawing on the donut, is all you need not to feel like empty nesters ever again!! LOL.

I know this is very unrealistic dream...but I sure in heck wished that for every 4 or 3-legged fur baby who has been abandoned to the streets or in a shelter, would have their very own 2, 1, or 0-legged unselfish human parents...yelp...I'm talking about people just like yourself Renee and Randy, waiting in the wings to *adopt'em,* *hug'em,* *love'em,* and *take'em* to *their* *4-ever* *home* and never ever *leave'em* on their own again..

Aww, both your dogs are so sweet! I will have to find that "tough dog donut" on amazon - my beagles dog toys might last a day or two at the most! My dog also hates having his picture taken. I don't know what it is - maybe I used the flash once and it scared him? I'm not sure, but I still sneak a pic when he's not looking! Have a wonderful weekend!

I too adopted a boy that had been in 7 homes in less than 4 months and he was 4 months - he and Pollux had many of the same traits, My older dogs helped him adjust just like your Max. 12 years later he is a great boy but still has many traits that come from that early lack of socialization. Positive that I would never trade him for anything. He has lovely sensitive eyes. Love him. Thanks for taking him home

Your dogs eating routine is great,makes it so much easier,I wonder though,with pollux chewing holes in his bed etc,Do you ever worry that he may be swallowing some of the stuffing??Also,Do you ever give pollux real raw bones to chew on,since he is such an avid chewer and raw meaty bones are so good for their teeth etc??

You are right chewing like pollux did on his new toy is a comfort to them. My little chi chi did his toy red man this way. My baby was too small to bite a hole but he sure enjoyed using it as a passie. He was fullbloodied blue chi. From the pound. I loved him with my entire self. In 2017 at 20 yrs old he went to doggie heaven. He carried that little red dog everywhere for 14 yrs. Needless to say i have his ashes in my closet with his red dog beside him. Any one who loves a dog like i do is my forever sis so hello sis

I have had 2 Airedales that I found and when they were happy and excited they would nip. Then after they passed 13 years later, I got a shelter dog- another Airedale who was in the shelter for 5 years except for a short time when she was adopted and returned for nipping. I understand the nipping. When she is happy and excited, she nips. It’s a sign of happiness. It took her over a year to adapt. The vet said she has anxiety issues and may get worse. I said she just needed to know someone loves her. I was right. Coco is the best girl and we love her so much

My rescue dog chewed the edge of a chair when we first got her. She wasn't used to being in a home. She still doesn't lick much but she loves belly rubs and toys! Rescues are so hilarious 😂😆

We've had plenty of quirky pets. They are so much fun. At least he's not greedy with the the number of toys he needs. I am so happy to see the two dogs in harmony. My sister rescued a female puppy off the street. Snoopy is the epitome of quirky, and she chews up everything. The situation so was out of control,we had to lock up everything. One year later she's better but so competitive with the other pets and very possessive about her stuff. She looks a lot like your baby with the prettiest eyes. Your Pollux looks like an interesting sweet fella.💞

Maxi is alpha dog and needs his proper respect. Pollux has post traumatic stress from the dog days. Chew toys, exercise and activities are helpful. Soothing voice is appreciated. And lots of attention. Very cute.

Pollux and Maxxie are so adorable. I have a rescued Yorkie mix, Jasper, who we adopted January 21, 2010 when he was ten months old. He's going to be 12 in March....he has some favorite toys, but now that he is blind and diabetic, he doesn't play with them much. He has some favorites and he loves our kitty's pig toy and plays with it when he is in the front room. Thanks so much for sharing. Jasper has food aggression, too.
