This weekend I hiked a loop starting off Sandwich Notch Rd. The loop took us through the Guinea Pond Trail, then the Meader Trail up to Mt Israel. We back tracked Meader Trail and then hit the Black Mountain Pond Trail to Black Mountain Pond to camp for the night. The next morning we continued up the Black Mountain Pond Trail enjoying some bouldery scrambles and great views. Then proceeded down the Algonquin Trail, again enjoying some bouldery scrambles and great views.
Trip was about 12.5 miles total with the road walk and about 3100ft of elevation / descent.

I hope more times than not, you find yourself saying “I Definitely do NOT need this”. If you find yourself still in need, shop around and find the best deal for your money.
Please note that I am not recommending any of the gear seen in any of my videos. The gear I use is what I have found works best for me at the time period I am using it. I have come to these gear choices through vast levels of trial, error, and experimenting with gear out on trail.
Gear, clothing, footwear, etc. are not one style works for all. Do as much research as you can, try out things in person if able, and make the best informed purchase decision for YOU. Do not buy gear just because it worked for, was showcased by, or recommended by someone on KZfaq

During the pandemic I was leaving trail and summit names out of many of my videos due to issues with massive overcrowding on the trail, as well as, issues in regards to what I would consider uneducated or irresponsible hiker behavior. The most notable of which was trash, and human waste / toilet paper I was finding directly on, or just off, trail. I kept some of the trail and location names in this video. If you are using this video for planning purposes, please use the trail responsibly and try to follow leave no trace principles. It only takes one person not doing so to ruin it for everyone. If you are a newer hiker please watch this video before heading out on trail: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ms6Uaqhl162tp3U.html Here is an article about the issue with trash and human waste specifically in the Whites www.nhpr.org/post/trouble-trails-forest-service-grapples-crowds-trash-and-human-waste#stream/0 Another article about Max Patch (an iconic part of the Appalachian Trail) and the issues occurring there www.citizen-times.com/story/news/local/2020/09/23/max-patch-residents-campers-creating-safety-hazards-mountain/5858936002/ Here you can learn about leave no trace (LNT) principles lnt.org/why/7-principles/ www.nps.gov/articles/leave-no-trace-seven-principles.htm

Thanks for the memories. On a day hike some 40 years ago I surprised a cow moose while descending Mount Israel to the Guinea Pond Trail. She was lying down behind a fallen spruce tree, and as the wind was in my face so she probably didn’t hear me. She suddenly reared up from about 20 feet away. Fortunately, she took off downhill and didn’t charge me. I wished I’d packed a second pair of shorts that day. Lol.

Thats amazing, we passed were passed by someone on the Algonquin Trail that came up Guinea Pond and apparently there was a moose around on the high water trail. Unfortunately we chose the water walk haha

Nice! I love the Sandwich wilderness. Back in May did an overnight hitting a similar route. Went up Wentworth trail to Israel, to Mead trail to Black Mountain Pond trail to Algonquin to the Dome. Thanks for the video!

So great to see you and Pancho out again!! I really like Pancho’s pack! I’m a full brim hat guy myself! I look like charlie brown anytime i wear a baseball cap!🤣. So i choose not too. Man!! Parts of that trail kinda looked like the huntington ravine trail up Washington. Definitely no joke!! Thanks Chris for this! NQU

This has been a brutal hiking season in New England. None stop rain. I was on the Long Trail in July 10 and 11 when that massive rain hit. My dog and I were fortunate to get out in one piece. Over ten inches, it came very fast. Then it rained about six more inches over the next few days and it feels like it just will not stop. Looks like a nice hike. I have been in that areas before. Take care

Here we are in January! I know that high route has been there at least 2 or 3 years. We did a loop. Park near Beede Falls, road walk to Guinea Pond Trail, up to Israel on Meade and back down on Meade. And back to the Corolla I was afraid to bring down the Sandwich Notch Road😂. Nice historical walk, found an old cemetery.

I think the Boston area got about 11in of rain this July. Compared to about 3in average. Its been a moist one for sure. I feel like every weekend in July was raining in some way

Great video as always Chris. The Guinea Ond trail was flooded when I was there last time 2015-16 ish. We took the high water loop. I suspect there are beavers in the area. I think the caution sign was for snowmobiles. The trail which is the wilderness boundary follows the old logging Railroad grade and they allow the to run them here.

Definitely beaver activity all over this area. I’d bet they are at least somewhat responsible for this wet trail haha. The caution is definitely for snowmobiles. I usually see them by bridges. There were I believe dirt bike trails near here too

Sweet hike. Pay no attention to the x-mid enveloping the bearded guy.

Been eye-ing almost that exact loop, but had read the Guinea Pond trail was a bit waterlogged. I think that was an understatement

It was certainly a bit moist, but easy walking. The high water seems to go around most of this though
