This episode is so well done. Not knowing if Tanjiro will be able to slash the demon's neck, but then reveal that the boulder he cut was the biggest bolder out of all the students and then cut back to show the successful slash was pure hype. If you think about it, it makes sense that Tanjiro would have been the one to be able to finally defeat that demon since he learned from the ghosts with one that uses agility and the other that uses strength. So he now blends those two things. Agile enough to dodge mid air, but strong enough to slash that thick neck. Also having the same keen sense of smell like the teacher probably makes him the perfect student for Urokodaki.

Such a bittersweet episode. 😭

And thus Tanjiro's journey as a demon slayer begins, both figuratively and literally as one my favorite things about this story is that its not set in once place but moves across Japan as we go a road trip (well walking trip) with Tanjiro. Huh I never thought about this but the slayers have no Horses. Also this piece of info comes from the Guide and is not stated in the anime or manga, the water and well any Elemental effects you see are not real. He is not summoning water or anything. However the shockwaves, power and speed behind them is real. It's a weird choice, Demon magic and Ghosts are okay but elemental sword powers is where they draw the line ? Anyways just a fun fact I wanted to share.
