What Mariah said in the beginning is EXACTLY why I don't watch the Grammy's anymore. It's like no one wonders why these artists have like 20 Grammy's when back then it was so hard to get one. The Grammy's have lost all my respect, it's just a joke and yes - very predictable.

I cant imagine any of taylor’s awards being for anything other than her writing, though tbh I still don’t see that as an excuse. However, taylor is not competition in an era of these ladies, I don’t think she would win anything in an era of mariah, Whitney, celine...again I still think theres better out there today but I don’t understand fully how the grammys set their criteria
@ajollypanda41754 жыл бұрын
Well I just googled and half of taylor’s grammys are country related...and of those that aren’t: best music video, songwriting for visual media,best album twice and the one that makes me totally confused best pop vocal album. I dnt need to see the nominees in that last category to make sense of it either; taylor is not a vocalist but I guess pop vocal album has a little bit more to do than simple vocal talent, because sometimes that can be a bit subjective I guess? Idk lol Edit: I checked the nominees anyway and best pop vocal album nominees in 2016 were sia, adele, demi lovato , justin bieber (okay?) , ariana grande. I mean out of all those choices excluding bieber, Taylor swift?

Yayo De La Cruz Beyonce actually does not write alot of songs thats geared towards simply being a hit. Sure she has some of those songs as well but alot of her music is not necessarily popular music and thats okay. To me mariah’s music were hits after hits but she also sang alot of ballads and work with some amazing producers, the grammys mentality at the time just seemed to be more distributive with their awards. Like she has a million nominations and had she won most of those people would have complained. Now it seems like they let you have you moment and dont think you are gonna win a ton of grammys in one night again. Look at taylor, she was so heartbroken when she didnt get nominated in 2019 or 2018 but really the geammys probabaly feel like they gave her her night to shine...now billie is the one in the spotlight grammy wise.

People really should know the story behind Mariah and 1996 Grammy Awards. Daydream was a hugely successful Diamond album that also was her best-reviewed album up until that point in her career. Previous critiques said her albums lacked uniformity and consistent song-writing strength throughout, but Daydream had fixed those critiques and had properly blended in R&B into her music. Mariah had dominated pop music for the last 5 years and still had not been properly rewarded outside 2 Grammys during her 1990 debut Mariah Carey for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Performance. Now Daydream had come out, had several number one singles throughout 1995 into 1996 including the longest single spent atop the Billboard Hot 100 in One Sweet Day. I read somewhere that all the # 1 singles from Daydream combined equaled 6 STRAIGHT MONTHS on top the Hot 100. Half of an entire year of Mariah Carey having the best song in the country. Now I get it, Jagged Little was more successful the year it came out in terms of overall album sales whereas Daydream probably didn't sell as many copies until later in 1996 after the Grammys. A) I'm not as concerned that Jagged Little Pill won Album of the Year over Daydream because it does make sense in one frame. B) I'm MORE pissed that Daydream did not win Best Pop Vocal Album over a Joni Mitchell Album I've never heard of and that ONE SWEET DAY did not win Best Pop Vocal Performance with Collaboration over a cover song of Van Morrison that he re-collaborated on with a group 6 years after he originally released the song. LIKE WHAT???????? Utter nonsense. Complete rock bias and anti-popularity era. What gets me mad is exactly what Mariah talks about, in that back in the day the press loved coming after popular singers of the era and lambasting them for every little thing that they did, and now in the era of social media the influence of the people has allowed stars like Beyonce and Adele to become glorified figures that are abstained from criticism.
@johnn.50335 жыл бұрын
one more thing. The Grammy cutoff used to be September 30 of every year. Daydream was released October 3rd 1995 which means the album shouldn't have even gone up against Jagged Little Pill and should have been nominated for Best Album at the 1997 Grammy Awards. Now maybe they just lumped it in together because she released the majority of her songs before the album release, but still does anyone know when and why the rule maybe changed.
@ajollypanda41754 жыл бұрын
I’m glad that pretty much all of the songs I LOVE from mariah is nominated (and if you google you will see its ALOT) but I dont get why you’re talking about album sales to make your argument. I feel like grammys has incorporated popularity more into their criteria over time but back then it definitely wasn’t about popularity so you talking about billboard weeks at no.1 and saying you haven’t heard of something doesn’t mean its not deserving. There are too many music out there for them to accurately say oh this out of everything is the best (in my opinion) so the fact that she is already so established may have made them want to give it to other people. Now if that was the case they definitely changes because adele is winning like 5 grammys on average (whi ck I am not mad about). We may also just be underthinking what the awards mean because taylor swift winning best vocal pop album definitely implies to me that maybe its more about the way the songs are arranged versus the actual talent of the singer because no offense taylor is an average singer

Mariah is correct about the grammys, what they are doing is like basically some artists are more deserving than others and that is BS. Popularity and talent are too different things.

very very ironic that lady gaga says she doesn't make music to channel the gay community when that's how she's built her entire career

THE PIPING HOT TEA MARIAH SERVED IN THE BEGINNING. The Grammys are a complete joke now, they don't care about actual artistry anymore, as long as you sell a million records you're guaranteed an award no matter how terrible you're music is. The fucking Chainsmokers can win Grammys for fucks sake. No disrespect to Adele at all, but 25 did not deserve to win over Lemonade, even she said that.

Gaga saying she doesn’t write songs to channel the gay community.... born this way ..... anywayyyyy
@roddo19555 жыл бұрын
That's not channeling. That's supporting and it wasn't just for the gay community; it was for anybody who feels marginalised and bullied for who they are. Channeling would be like singing about engaging in same sex acts when you don't in real life. Or singing about divorce when you've never been married. You channel the emotions but you never experienced it. It's not necessarily a bad thing, i think.

Hearing gaga say that she doesn't write songs for the gay community, or pander to them, or whatever it was she was trying to say is RICH. That was a major focal point of her entire schtick! So many girls were "gay" all of a sudden after she debuted.
