Even the visual language of an influencer standing on his viewers and looking down condescendingly at them is spot-on. Anime Boy is gonna dissect and display the tragedy of online culture so well. Edit: Just realized we're looking at him through glass. Just like, ya know, watching an influencer on your phone's glass screen. Edit edit: I think the chorus--and at least parts of the verses--are this influencer Porter is playing talking to himself. The "I'm in the mirror" line particularly seems to indicate this.

@@TheBluffStudios That's one way of seeing it. I'm connecting the dots from Cheerleader, where it seems he was speaking about the reciprocal nature of artist / fan. Since that was the impression I got from that song, I figured it was a running theme. This time putting a focus on the vanity of it, but that in reality these people are just humans too. Especially the line: "if I'm everything you talk about, why do you keep letting yourself be let down?" and "If I'm everything you talk about I'm in the mirror, baby, let it all out Knock yourself out". He's talking about the parasocial relationships we form really being a reflection of ourselves. The bridge specifically from Cheerleader, is why I formed these thoughts. Although art is subjective, so these are just my isolated impressions of the art. I love the song regardless of what message it's sending though.

So super fast first impression is that this is a self-deprecating song telling his fan-base not to look up to him too much, cuz he's got his own issues he's dealing with. But if we're able to connect with him and his music, maybe we should take some time to think about why and use that as a way help ourselves.

We think similar things when looking in the mirror in the morning, so spend some time to gas your own self up. If you want one of Porter's top qualities: throw your phone in the sea and be passionate about that crazy idea in the back of your head as if no one is watching... Smile :D

I had a similar impression. Like simultaneously being self-deprecating and SUPER ironically overconfident. I kinda felt that contrast in areas like “got 100 million on my wrist, physically sick”. Like this big flexer persona is something that’s being put on even though it makes you feel fucking dead inside. I could be overcooking it idk I’m super tired

Hey, this is pretty good. I didn't think I was going to gel much with this one based on the preview, and while I dont see it being an all-timer for me, it's a pretty fun song! I think I "get" it, in terms of lyrics, seeing some of the discussion and "hype cycle" around this and previous album releases. I think SMILE! :D is proving to have some pretty interesting directions for Porter to explore. Cool stuff!

Im loving the presence of Porter's natural voice! Something Comforting really made me associate his natural vocals with really making contact with his natural self and feelings. So of course this era of "just" his vocals reads very clearly.
