Here I talk about the power of creating positive confusion by utilizing the remote collar and clickers with rewards for aggressive and fearful dogs.

I used the clicker recently for a GSD with extreme reactivity...worked like a charm! Now when she sees her typical triggers she looks at me for a reward instead of barking and lunging. Love that you said you need to train the opposite of what you what...great tip! Thanks for this video. 🙏🏻

At about 25 minutes it really drove home how important it was when one of my professors told us "you dont truly know anything until you learn it, do it, AND teach it. If you cannot do all three, you havent totally grasped the information". You can regurgitate info without grasping it, you can do something without knowing the entire process, and you can talk a good game or accomplish something without being able to explain and teach it. It truly takes all three to fully and completely understand the material. Thanks for your videos.

Changing the trigger - Yes! Engage disengage game. Even Susan Garrett has a video of getting people to throw a bunch of treats in the x-pen of barking Australian cattle dogs (who wouldn't fight with each other around food). People were saying to the owner, why are you letting her reward that bad behavior? But by the end of the conference, not one bark - changing the trigger. TY for this video.

Yes please please continue to do your videos. People that can’t afford trainers can keep many many dogs from going to a shelter or to be euthanized. Thank you!

Larry, Leslie McDevitt wrote Control Unleashed and also uses marking of even an ear flick of the reactive dog noticing something before it blows up. Counter conditioning. I appreciate your balance and willingness to help very reactive dogs and their handlers to learn new responses to reactivity.

Makes sense to me. You are so compassionate with the dogs. If only all trainers understood the e collar as you do things would be so much better. Keep up the great work Larry : ) Thank you .

GOD Bless U!!! Ur vids saved us ( my pup is a fearful rescue….I was hoping that w/ enough time, patience & love she would become my next service dog….but ran out of time!). After wasting lots of $ on 3 different trainers & 1 year of time I was about to wash her out. In desperation, I tried 1 more trainer but she (after meeting us) would only agree to work w/us if we used a prong & e-collar. I had reservations…but I was desperate! While waiting for our new equipment to arrive I started binge watching your channel & u gave me the confidence (& rationale) to use these tools successfully! It wasn’t magic, it wasn’t overnight, but it worked! (I think I got extra credit from my trainer when she recommended your e-collar book & I told her that I already ordered it & subscribe to ur channel!). I don’t know who has learned more - me or my pup but we learned together & our bond is so much stronger. We have passed the CGC test & public access is going great (I now have become an advocate of these tools since we have a lot public exposure which brings a lot of public opinion!). Thx again- I’m sure you’ll never know how many dogs & people u have helped! PEACE 🐾

Thanks Larry for all your videos. I have a very shy, anxious and reactive Carolina dog. Through exposure to lots of new people and clicker training his anxiety of humans has gone way way down. I am now working on his reactivity to other dogs on our walks using the clicker, I love the suggestion of attacking the problem the moment he even sees the other dog. I have been getting him to the side of the street, having him sit and I mark and reward quiet eye contact, and he does but he is also tense. I now see that this takes too long to address the issue. Keep doing the videos, you’re helping tons of people and their dogs.

Hi Larry, While I don’t use e collars, so many people do and I’m very much on the fence about regulation of tools as it’s such a slippery slope. There is no such thing as purely positive training, so I can’t say I’m purely positive but I don’t use many tools for the most part. Though I don’t use e-collars, I do want to understand their proper use as much as possible, hence I watch all your videos as I believe you can learn something new from nearly any experienced trainer. I digress, from the bottom of my heart please, please, please never stop doing these videos and never stop educating the public. You’re helping the public who choose to use e-collars, and you’re helping to introduce a more positive way of using the e collar as well as eventual corrections with it. Anyway. Just wanted to give you some kudos on your videos and openness to taking on the criticism in order to teach the public in order to save as many dogs as possible.

Any chance you can do a video with the clicker? This would be great info. I don't run into too many truly aggressive dogs. But this would come in handy to help the rescue I work with.

It's crazy at first, but as I listened to you explain this method it totally made sense. You might have just helped me save this rescue I have. I have a fearful and reactive Pit Bull and I was starting to feel like I was going to give up as I am failing this dog. I'm no trainer, just someone who rescued an older (7 yr old) American Bully (possible Pit Bull x American Bulldog mix). I'm at my wits end with her. She is great with me and my husband, but we cannot take her anywhere. She is an insecure dog and can be reactive. She has snapped at 2 people that wanted to pet her. Not in some over aggressive way, but like how you might slap someone's hand away from you that's bugging you. It's a half hearted motion with no noise. She won't connect with people, she won't look at them, but she will stand stiff as people approach. No greeting, no reaction she acts like she is tolerating their company as I talk to them. She is not interested in interacting. Even with us she was a little like this at first. After a time she warmed up more and more. She was picked up as a stray, so we do not know her history. She was adopted by my cousin a few years ago and basically left in the backyard to babysit their kids when their kids played out back with her. She does like children. I just hate to fail this sweet dog. She's mature and I know we are her last chance. I'm just feeling a little overwhelmed with her.

I've watched your vids and bought your book I trained my people and dog lead reactivity on e collar but watching vids from other KZfaq person you could probably guess who and stopped most of it if hes off lead he still might dash over to the dog and get in its face but after I watched this vid its changed my mind on how u train with the clicker walking passed dogs and dogs always being happy I'm in 😁 just hope it's not to late to start this way always e collar on low if u could pick one of your vids to start with which one would it be just for every day obedience work I have worked on a bit of low e collar work but not much

Larry Krohn, my GSD will not take food outside. Is it okay to mark and reward with a round of play(tug of war) that he loves and will instantly disengage if I ask for engagement if he looks at any distraction.

Thank you for this video. Gives me some ideas on how to correct my sheltie from going off on people who tell me she's a pretty dog, lol. She's my everything. She's a splendid dog and behaves so well on her leash. But as soon as someone stops and tells me how pretty she is, etc she becomes fearful and reactive. I've been working in this since I got her over a year ago and she's gotten better but I really want her to get a cgc title and the only thing I have doubts in is sitting politely for petting and accepting a friendly stranger. I don't expect her to want to be everyone's friend, but I don't want this to snow ball into something bad down the line. I'm going to use my clicker as a rehabilitation tool. I want to try and reward her when she's in that "I'm about to go off, hold my bull stick" mode. 👍

I’ve been working with my dogs reactivity/aggression with both ecollar. Somehow I went back to clicker/positive reward, just feeling I should. So I mix them up. Wondering if this should be more structured. For example alternate with every other dog, every other day. Depends I’m sure if my dog is responding to both so let’s say she is. Thanks Larry

I have a dig that has been through bording training who has improved so much with people he doesnt know. Recently he started acting aggressive only when people go to the door to leave. He greets them when they arrive happy and is either calm while they are there or playful. It is so wierd when they go to leave he gets stiff and barks aggressively at them. This happens to visitors but not family. He is a boxer mix so it can be intimidating for sure. Why does he do this?

I’m completely dumb founded, I’ve watched 2-3 of you’re videos now. An I feel horrible because I’ve used the Ecollar to punish my pit, for basic an aggressive behavior. So can I correct my own mistake here and do what you do with the Ecollar? It’s amazing what you’ve done with the dogs In the few videos I’ve watched, within 10-15 minutes they are whole new dogs. I really hope you see this and reply because I’ve recently had a incident with my pit.

Just don't understand why people say ecollar wrong, especially when it only takes short time to train with them , I have a rescue gsd who is so reactive to everything and walking her is hell on earth, ( for 2 years now) been to FF trainers not worked so now before ban in england I am going to trainer who uses them, but also does foundation first she has had 3 lessons with ecollar and is chsnging already

I have a 4 yr old pit bull who's scared of her own shadow she was fine with other dogs and strangers till about 2 now she's dog aggressive and very fearful of anyone but family. We have another dog she's fine with but we can't let her around other dogs or anyone but family. We use a prong and e- collar hasn't worked, board and train didn't work either. I hate it because she's so sweet to us and I hate she can't have any interaction with other dogs. We don't know what to do but keep her away from dogs and other people. I'm going to give this a try.

Just putting on a prong and an E-collar will not change behaviors as you describe. Obvious the boarding was not with a trainer who can work with behavioral issues. Do research find someone who has experience working with a dog such as your dog. Have your dog evaluated and research that trainer, look at reviews, get referrals with owners with similar dogs and then decide on someone you trust. Where are you located?
