Hello Frank! I also am a professional musician, studied jazz and classical guitar in college, been playing now for 60 years. (Started at 5 yrs old) had to stop playing awhile back on account of this ferocious burning pain in my hand and fingers. Was having a hip replacement done, so put off the hand for a long time. In 2 days having release surgery on left hand. Thanks for sharing, I’m so ready to get back to playing. Hope your still doing well!!

Thank you Frank for the video. It is very helpful. I am wondering what day that was after surgery because my surgery went very well like yours and this is the second day and I have no finger swelling and have almost all strength and very little pain. In fact I think most of the discomfort is from this huge wrap and I have seen allot of videos that the doctor didn't even use the wrap, just a big water proof bandage over the small incision one.

How well did the surgery reverse the numbness and tingling on your thumbs and fingers? Was it endoscopic or open release?

Thanks so much for sharing your experience and insight! Surgery yesterday morning and looking forward to getting back to my guitar as it's been a long while! Also had ulnar nerve transposition at the same time. Nerve conduction study/EMG indicated that's what lead to the carpal tunnel. Haven't had need to take prescribed narcotic.

Going in for thiss on Tuesday - as the doctor explained, they will be cutting also the palm of the hand. BTW - I'm a retired bass trombone player, but still play for myself. Hope it all worked out for you!

So it's very strange cuz I am getting capful tunnel done in May and all the musicians are like playing a few days after. That all had great experiences. Like it was a piece of cake. And I watched this one girls KZfaq and she had carpal done. She worked in a factory and she had to end up quitting her job even after the surgery and she said she had pain a year after. These guys look like they had the opposite experience. 🤔

I think mine is the other version where they cut more on the outside. You got The endoscopic version, very nice.

Just had my right hand done today looked up removing bulky bandage which I am not supposed to do for two days but just did because it was so itchy I am about to re-wrap it. I feel bad I know I was not supposed to unwrap it but sitting around bored and all. They did open mine all the way up though because it was so bad I wish I would have had endoscopic. I am not a musician but it is my dream to learn to play guitar I was diagnosed in 2005 and let it go this long and never could form cords. I am hoping with this I can do it.

@@CutiePie232 thanks for asking, I had it done about the second week of June. Been a unique experience. I bought a bass keyboard to tide me over in between my pain LOL. Had the cast taken off last week but my wrist is still quite weak. Practiced with my band just a couple of days ago and was able to play many of our songs but my hands became quite tired wearing the brace. Just guessing I would say I've got at least another month or so of strength building

Great video .....I play a lot of gigs(Guitar)...mostly light soloing stuff . I am scheduled for CP surgery. Taking 2 weeks off playing to deal with post OP stuff. You are a great player ...wondering if you play guitar as well , and how you might have had challenges with wider neck. Did you fully recover dexterity? Im a little paranoid about recovery time.

I was recommended extreme wound care. Pulling things. Opening the refrigerator was out of the question. Keeping my hands above heart level was also imperative as well as doing a gentle fists and touching my thumbs with the tip each one of same hand’s fingers. The release of the incision on the tendon requieres a cut. I was told that it is as delicate as a wet noodle. I wound not push it!

I know it was a different timeline, but I just finished watching a different video where the guy stressed that lifting anything is painful, such as lifting pyjama bottoms off the floor. Then Frank just picked up the mandolin like it was nothing. Cringed watching his hand move so fluidly after hearing about how painful it Can be for some people.

Hi, I have a question. On your 1st day of having that surgery was your hand completely numb? I had my surgery early this morning and my hand is numb. I had to remove the bandages and just leave the white one to relieve some of the pressure and it did actually work, so I was just curious, thank you in advance.
