#POTHOSPROPAGATION blogpost: mywastelesslife.home.blog/202...
In this third part of my Ultimate Guide to Pothos series, I will give you a full walkthrough on how to propagate your pothos with 99 percent success rate and minimal loss. Many pothos propagation advice you get is to make cuttings in your pothos and stick it on top to make it bushier, but that's actually a recipe for disaster!
in this video, i will show you the BEST way to SUCCESSFULLY PROPAGATE POTHOS from beginning to end. I will go over reasons why your pothos start to "bald" or thin out and how to make your pothos bushier before even propagating, how to properly make cuttings from your pothos, how to best propagate in water, how to propagate in inert mediums such as perlite, coco coir and sphagnum moss, and how to successfully transfer your propagation from water to soil.
I will also share a neat trick to get more growth from the base of your pothos, so watch til the end!

My wife uses single leaf cuttings and puts up till 10 in per small glass jars, works for her every time, shes been doing this for 40 years and it always works, i guess thats why we have them all over the place haha

you also can grow them in clear glass jars, they never have to be put in soil, for those that like water growing

Try propagating in a zip-lock bag with soil and perlite. Spray the inside with water, blow it up and close the zip.

I've had great success from water propagating Pothos. I change the water every other day and keep them under a florescent light in the kitchen. When transferring to soil I over soak the soil and keep a saucer underneath to keep the soil wet. I let it slowing dry out, allowing the plant to change from water to soil living.

If your propagating in water try to use fish tank water or pond water because the fish poop is like a natural fertilizer for the plant and it’ll root faster and grow bigger, faster and healthier.

and with an eye, they simply do not rot, you just do not put the stem part in water, 100 percent every time unless you have an unhealthy leaf, just throw it out, and we change the water every day, or every other day, they need oxygen to root, well,
@alis49281

Smaller leaves are more of a signal of missing nutrients and/or light. They grow fast and need a lot of nutrition during the growth season. Another factor is humidity. My cuttings that I grow in fertilized water in a paludarium are considerably larger than in any of the pots. Pothos need a lot of nitrate, moderate phosphate, very little potassium and the fertilizer should offer only nitrate in abundance.
@MyWastelessLife
@MyWastelessLife 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! I am currently giving my pothos more humidity and using fish emulsion fertilizer, so hopefully those help.

Thanks for this information. i can understand your theory with transference from water to sub medium however i am a bit lost on your node method. i am used to doing single leaf method and my outcome is about 85% but now i'm doing the 2 nodes one leaf. i feel i am loosing potential plants that way but i see more people recommend that method. Please feel free to guide me to more information.
@MyWastelessLife
@MyWastelessLife 3 жыл бұрын
It is preferable to have an extra node coz it's additional place for root growth, if you notice root growth is not at the same pace even in nodes in the same vine. Second it prevents leaf loss better. Not saying it 100percent will not happen if you have two nodes one leaf, but in single cutting leaf often yellows before the cutting roots coz the petiole of the leaf is also submerged in water or in the medium, causing it to rot.

Hey, I was wondering if you would help me by answering that if pothos survive in a tiny pot like a small cup or something which doesn't have any whole at the bottom or not?
@MyWastelessLife
@MyWastelessLife 4 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't recommend it since pothos don't like overwatering if potted with soil, unless you are instead gonna grow your pothos in water or semi-hydrophonic. It's possible, but you have to be very careful with watering.

Hi, thank you for your video. I purchased a small Neon Pothos along with some cuttings, and the lady said I could pop them straight into soil and they should be happy. So along I went and popped the cutting in with the rooted plant since the pot was quite generous. It has now been a couple of months and everything is still a nice green and I am ignoring the urge to water them too frequently (I haven't really worked out the sweet spot for watering my plants so I dutifully shove my finger in the soil every few days). Should I be worried that neither are really growing since we are just heading into spring here and just be happy they all look the same as when I purchased them, or should I try and restate the cuttings? I genuinely dont know how fast these grow when its colder etc. It has a great spot by a window but to the side that doesn't get the direct sun. I have had a look at one of the cuttings and it has little nubby roots kind of like a pinky nail.
@MyWastelessLife
@MyWastelessLife 3 жыл бұрын
direct soil propagation works well for me but it does take a learning curve and be prepared to lose leaves. if they look happy and you're not loosing any leaves then leave it be. the neon pothos, once it starts growing it grows really fast, but at first they do look like nothings going on. i also find the neon pothos is one of the most communicative plants out there. if it needs watering the leaves will droop and produce yellowing leaves, but they are also quick to bounce back once you remedy them. they HATE being fertlized, pothos don't really need it they are low feeders, but if you want to just use slow release fertilizers
