A new garden season is upon us and I'm expanding my container garden again this year. I love gardening in containers because it gives me more growing space, allows me to grow food closer to my kitchen for maximum convenience, and adds beauty to my home and outdoor lounging areas.
I'm adding six new perennial herb containers to my container garden, all tera cotta. Tera cotta is my favorite type of container because it's beautiful, often cheaper than other container types, and breathable for plants that don't like to have their roots too wet.
To fill my containers I'm using old potting soil from last year that I've stored over the winter in a GEOBIN and then amending that potting soil with compost to revive it.
I have a combination of plants I've grown in the past (lemon balm, lemon thyme, and Greek oregano) as well as new-to-me plants (lemon verbena, tricolor sage, and German winter thyme).
For a point of reference, I'm in Virginia in Zone 7. I like to grow a lot of rare heirloom varieties in my garden, which means lots of interesting shapes and colors!
