Here is the link to the first pouring medium comparison I did with dutch pours:
• POURING MEDIUM COMPARI...
Paint recipes used in this experiment:
Owatrol (UK floetrol) pouring medium ~ 2 parts owatrol, 1 part paint and 1.5 parts water (2parts water for iridescent paints)
American Flood floetrol pouring medium ~ 2 parts floetrol, 1 part paint and 0.75 parts water (1 part water for iridescent paints)
Water as the pouring medium ~ 2 parts paint and 1.5 parts water (2 parts water for irideacent paints)
PVA glue and water pouring medium ~ pouring medium made by mixing 2parts pva glue to 1 part water, then mixed 2 parts pouring medium, 1 part paint and 0.2 parts water (0.5 parts water for iridescent paint)
Australian floetrol ~ 2 parts floetrol, 1 part paint and 0.4 parts water (0.6 parts water for iridescent paints)
I then added extra water to thin down the thicker mixes.

The first one with just using water reminds me of stalactites and stalagmites. If the swipe had been done with a darker colour it would look just like the inside of a cave!

I found you a couple of nights ago Claire. Well done on showing us your pour experiments it must have taken a long time to prepare. I did my fist pour yesterday they were all a bit of a mess but very pretty and I managed cells. So lots of practising ahead for me. I left everything on the kitchen table so round 2 today. Keep going it's nice to hear a British accent and no annoying background music

@@rainbowacrylicsbyclaire PS Maybe your viewers would like to know I have just bought a gallon of american floetrol on ebay for £25.50 so so so much cheaper to practice on, than our UK Owatrol coming in at nearly £20 for a litre. Only down side its taking 3 weeks to get here

Lots of work to figure this out Claire! The designs you got with just water I've heard several artists call them "caterpillars" & apparently they don't find them desirable. This was very interesting to see how they all turned out! Thanks for experimenting!

My ratio for my swipe color is always different that my base colors. I use American Floetrol, for my swipe color I use a 4:1 ratio and a 2:1 for my base colors with water added to both for consistency

Thank you for doing this comparison. My favourite is the UK Owatrol, so I’m feeling a lot happier now about not buying the expensive Aussie one (the UK version is dear enough!). Well done on mixing all those paints - it must have taken ages!

Great experiment, I use pva and water all the time and get cells, I think it’s the paint that helps, the density of the paint I’m learning makes a big difference, thank you for doing this experiment very interesting 😊

Im convinced that the majority of cells are created by specific brands of paints and not necessarily the medium added. Any thoughts on this theory claire?
@rainbowacrylicsbyclaire
@rainbowacrylicsbyclaire 3 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree, which is why a used exactly the same colour for each piece, Amsterdam paints and iridescent paints always seem to give more cells x

I suspect Aussie Floetrol is cheating. I've never used it myself and probably am not likely ever to but from what I'm hearing there is some kind of oil built into the formula so it's like having silicone on board. I've only used glue once and I don't much care for it even though it does do more than standard Floetrol and at less than half the price. I sort of like that water can do so much so simply.
@rainbowacrylicsbyclaire
@rainbowacrylicsbyclaire 3 жыл бұрын
I agree, only problem with the water option is that you use more paint which makes it more expensive x
