Can you practice using tampons when you're not on your period? No, that isn't a good idea. You can practice using menstrual cups when you're not on your period. Try using a water based lubricant to help.

It's okay, it can be scary, but trust me, it's gonna be worth it, it looks big and painful but it's not. You'll feel lile there's literally nothing there. If you're worried about the fit, you can research different types of cups you think that'll suit you. The vagina walls are made to expand so you don't have to worry about that part, the only thing is that it can be a bit difficult and overwhelming when putting it in for the first few times of using it, but you can succeed with practice!

I love that other alternatives are being made. I have a permanent rip/cut down there from the plastic teeth of the tampon and it's in such a delicate and sensitive area, that it took FOREVER to heal. And sometimes unfortunately it rips/tears back open again and really hurts. So I'm happy that alternatives are being made so that I don't have to keep using plastic tampons when there is nothing else. (I have been sticking to ones that come in cardboard or pads since that incident. I like those ones way more)

Omg please tell me you have gone to a gyno!!! I know it’s scary but no reason you should have to suffer!!! they might be able to prescribe a cream or gel paste something to help it heal permanently!!! If you have SA trauma or medical trauma, even just going and explaining your symptoms they should be able to help! They can’t FORCE you into doing a vaginal exam (which I imagine would hurt anyways because of the speculum) I’ve had nurses try to literally bully me (when I was a minor, too) into doing vaginal exams for birth control & my post partum check up x two. (Teen mom, two kids before I turned 18, lots of trauma) Not only was I still too sore to even think of getting into the stirrups, let alone let someone insert something that looks like a medieval torture device. The nurse tried saying “idk if the doc will prescribe your birth control today without a vaginal check” & I said okay…. And ended up getting my prescription anyways. Doctors suck & will sometimes gaslight you into doing things you don’t know or understand or just down right don’t want to do. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get it checked out!! I hope you find a solution soon. The cardboard applicators are the ones that always tear me up for some reason

Whatever works for you, works for you. As long as it’s unscented, you’re using it as instructions read and change it when it needs to be changed to avoid TSS and yeast infections. I’ve used pads, tampons and period cups. Will admit I stopped using the period cup after the first use but gave it another shot a month back and really liked it. Was also at the beach and didn’t want to deal with seawater being soaked up by a cotton menstrual product. I didn’t have leakage, didn’t feel it there and didn’t feel rushed to change a soggy pad or red-stringed tampon. Didn’t have to use lube as period blood and other…vaginal wetness made it easy to slip in. Takes a bit to get used to putting it in and taking it out and don’t think I’d ever be able to clean it in a public toilet-so that end I’d go tampon or pad. But some have more sensitive nethers or trauma where a menstrual cup would not work. That’s fine, it’s what worked for me. But it’s great to have options! To accommodate your lifestyle and flow! Really hate when people insult those who use pads making them out to be dirty, when it’s what works for them. It’s great to talk about our own experiences, what works so that the industry can improve menstrual products but not when it’s just hating on a product as if it shouldn’t exist when it does work for some. It’s all about your comfort level and how you want to deal with your period-tampon, pad, period panties, cloth pads, cups or whatever.

For people who are scared. Tampons can be scary at first but they aren’t bad at all. I first used one when I was 11. It might just feel weird at first tho. Just don’t put it in to deep or no deep enough. And make sure your flow is heavier because if it’s not heavy enough it’s going to hurt. And tampons are great for the night time! That way you don’t leak as easily.

I used tampons from the time I was about 16 to when I was 52 and went through menopause. I used pads for a few years and I found them uncomfortable and inefficient so I decided to give tampons a try. So many people say that tampons hurt. They don’t - but you have to place them correctly and in far enough. It does take a few times to get used to inserting the tampon but once you master it, you do not even feel it - and I used to use the Super Plus size on my heavy days.

You do you, but I will say don't write it out just yet, it took me years to finally want to try one and I'm never looking back. If your reasons are that you are scared, I will say that it's your own body and it's always an upside to know how your body works. As long as your hands and the cup is clean, you won't hurt anything. This is only my opinion as I read comments here. Some people are just so close minded. If you are pads, cups, tampon user, you do whatever you want to your body / use to your body. It is actually my FIRST time using menstrual cups today. regret ? NOT AT ALL. I am so happy not using pads right now. Finally I don't need to change pads every two hours. Being uncomfortable everytime I need to go to the restroom. Hate getting rashes from it ( any brand) Specially, hate buying it whenever I needed it. At first, I was scared, I AM 21 year old and a virgin. Never even tried inserting anything even my finger on it. But I was so motivated to change my life and to get rid of pads. I was motivated to get rid of those pads waste. I bought my first cup ( watch any possible videos again and again) Tried it without my period and FAILED TO INSERT for 3 days. I wonder what is wrong, so I explore my body. Then one night, I did it, I was so happy to finally insert it for the first time. So I waited for this day. Using cups for my period and this is the best decision. Fr ! Educate ourselves before saying anything. We don't need to be against each other. It takes time to know our body ! *It makes me more motivated when I see comments about girls younger than me trying cups already and I was like, if they can, I can do it too. Just listen to other women first before you judge them by using menstrual cups. :)

To all those who feel like menstrual cups are scary. I can understand your fears. I mean it's a personal choice at the end of the day. If you want to switch I can tell you how to make it work so that it doesn't hurt as bad. But you need to choose for yourself . We don't judge pad users here, use what you feel is good for your body. I've just started using cups and I'm not going back to pads or tampons ever again. So cups work wonders just that you need to be patient with them and accept the learning curve❤️✨ EDIT: Since this is getting so many likes lemme tell yall that I'm 16 rn so there is no age limit to using the cup every menstruating woman can use it. You just need to research a bit more and be patient with your body if you are younger. That's all😄

I wash it under cold water every time I remove to empty it so that's 3 times a day ( i have heavy flow ) I also occasionally wash it in the shower under lukewarm water cause that seems cleaner to me ( hot water locks in smells and stains so be careful to not wash it very often with hot water ). After my cycle ends I sterilize it by boiling and store in the bag provided. It's not hard tbh with pads and tampons it was much more difficult :)

OK I don’t know why people completely forgot about pads Is there something called toxic shock it’s pretty much where you put tampon in and it holds up your period flow then the only place you can go is up so the period keeps throwing up and you can get an infection or you could feel extremely nauseous and you can die from it which is why you don’t wear tampons all the time it’s healthy to wear them for a few hours but if you have a heavy flow, you should probably be wearing padded underwear with a pad not tampons. I got my period a few years ago and during that time I only used pads and occasionally tampons because I felt self conscious about wearing pads in public since I have a heavy flow and have to wear more absorbent pads. Tampons do not hurt, only when you are dry down there it hurts once you take it out but by the time you're dry, your period should be light already. Only last month I started using menstrual cups because I was forced to wear them at a camp since I had no tampons or pads around and I didn't wanna ask anyone and now it's really been great. I still haven't gotten my period yet but I'm looking forward to using them since it's eco friendly and it holds my flow! When I used tampons and pads I had to change them every 2-4 hours. Honey, you can't say that about pads, because all they do is collect blood, same as tampons. So bed of bacteria on the outside better then inside .I use pads ,and never ever had a problem.

it all depends on the person but the video I believe is talking about practicing how to put on these products while not on your period (which is why a tampon might be uncomfortable and possibly even painful to remove because of being drier than usual. It’s Cotten which is made to absorb)

pads for first two or three days then switch to reusable extra absorb panties. It's not totally environment friendly but it helps atleast reduce few plus less chances of rashes.

To everyone freaking out: Tampons are painfull as hell compared to cups since they are made of cotton. The texture can hurt. I cant use tampon daily becauae of that. I have to give it a break with pads. Finally got enough courage to try menstrual cups a couple months ago. BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE. I completely forget that I am on my period untill it is time to empty it. Leak proof (if put in correctly), almost no chance of toxic shock syndrome and you only have to empty it once every 12 hours. About TSS: Tampons posses the risk because they are cotton. They cause tiny tears in your vaginal canal and when the blood gets bad it can go into your blood stream and poison from there. Since cups are silicon and therefore smooth, also contains the blood in it rather than around it, the chances of getting tss is very very minimal.

There’s a cup called the lily cup that I think is the best. The reason is because the cup is flexible and is able to roll to the size of a tampon! So it’s not huge or awkward to get inside at all. It’s just like inserting a tampon. If you wanna try a cup I definitely recommend that one

Tbh, putting tampons in with that plastic piece actually terrifies me, I’m afraid it will scratch something. Putting in tampons just with your fingers is actually really quick and easy, just make sure you put it in there far enough, but since you’re using your fingers you can easily feel if it’s in the right position. If it feels uncomfortable its usually not right.
