You have a great food storage plan. I simply can't understand why everyone after going through 2020 don't have more of a prepper mindset.

I never really worried about having a prepper stock. However after 2020 and a family of 6. I started now getting stocked up. With so much uncertain times coming, I want to make sure we will be ok for a little while. ( my kiddos say it's my mid life crisis..lol ) but there young and dont completely understand everything going on.

We are going to need it now, it’s a good idea as I just started one for my family as well since I have baby and toddler, things are sure to get worse now, I hope not but just in case. Some have predicted we will need it in. 3-4 years

Hi Robin - The first thing I thought of when watching this is the Proverbs 31 woman. She attends to the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. The way to manage your household is amazing. I know your children will rise up and call you blessed. It’s a full time job to make your home run efficiently, isn’t it? I love the idea of marking the cans with dates. I am always having to take a can to the window or using a magnifying glass to read those dates. It’s so good that you have developed a system to keep using that food so none will be wasted or get old. Thank you for sharing this information with us, I have told you this before but your videos are a ministry. Love in Christ, friend.

Thank you Donna! Your sweet words of encouragement are such a blessing to me! Most of these ideas are from other people who have been doing this for quite a while and I am learning new things all the time. I do think that this is a wise endeavor. It feels good to be prepared. I hope that you are doing well and having a wonderful day! God bless you my sister in Christ! 💗😊💕

But at what point does it border on hoarder?
@JanuaryLisa
@JanuaryLisa 3 жыл бұрын
@@deeb8733 it won't seem "hoarderish" should you lose your job/income, or get snowed in for weeks. We had a power outage for 12 days here, and believe me--you're glad to have stocked up in that case. The only time it would seem like hoarding to me is when you aren't using the food you store, and it goes bad, yet you're still stocking up. That would be a bad scenario. Using and rotating is not; it's being prepared.

I started a working pantry in March and I am so glad that I did. My goal was a 3 month pantry but now it is a 6 month pantry. I only need to go to the store for fresh items. It is really really nice to be able to meal plan out of my own pantry and not have to run to the store everyday to pick up items.

A tip for your top shelves. I’ll buy Walmart crates that are probably about five dollars each. I’ll put one at each end turn sideways so that I can still fill it or remove product from it. I put those on the top shelves and then I put a pine board on top of those to give me an additional shelf. On the very top I put all my paper goods and all my dry cereals. Add anything that’s light weight and you can even stack upon it higher, if need be.

This is art. Seriously, as a prepper myself, it's not an easy feat building food storage from scratch. And the amount of attention you need to put in order to make sure certain items are consumed and replaced before they go bad. Saving this video for future reference. Already doing a lot of the ones that you are, but definitely a lot more I could learn from this. Cheers!

Ironically, I was listening to a different video while working in my pantry. Then yours started with autoplay. I have very recently moved to a much more compact home option. 1800sqft down to 1200sqft. It doesn't sound like a huge difference, but Oh! It really Is! You have many of the same organizational items that I have. TW modules, same baskets, can rack, I have 2 this far. I use a lot of canning jars also. You can see exactly what's inside. I've always had a pantry....until now. I decided to forgo a guestroom and turn the smallest room into kitchen appliances and food pantry storage. I'm still unpacking and its growing quite full. There will be 3 book shelves on one wall and 2 - five shelf heavy duty wire shelving units on the opposite side. The closet will be paper goods and household products. It's a small closet and I have to install shelves. Seeing how you grouped baking goods was encouraging. I played with that idea, but just wasn't sure how I would work it out. I'm more confident now. Thanks for the tour!

I loved the video and your presentations always. I'm a little down at the thought we have to stock for 3 and 4 months at a time or more. Today I shopped early morning (best time for least people) wore my mask; carried my list. Seems every week the shelves get a little more bare. Some weeks are okay and I can get pretty much what I need or can find a substitute. I know that compared to the rest of the world we still have an abundance. I know that God is faithful and will see us through. Though I'm not exactly sounding like it right now. I will say I am able to secure fresh produce from a wholesaler because fewer restaurants are buying and those who are buying are buying less so this is a good deal if you have a local wholesaler or still have a farmers' market. Please continue your encouraging lessons and stay safe. Thank you Robin.

I don't have a panty so we have to store food in our basement which means boxed foods need to be air tight sealed and I have plastic see thru boxes with lids that I put them into. Basements can get damp. I run a dehumidifier in the summer to help cut down on that as well. I do believe the best buy dates are a good idea but canned from the store food if seal professionally never go bad unless the can is dented, or has a hole in it or bulging. They are safe to use for many years past that date. Years ago we didn't have dates on our canned goods. People ate canned foods that were five years or more. As a long time prepper I can tell you studies have been done on cans 20 years past the expiration date and the food inside was safe to eat. So to throw away a can that is not bulging and not dented is a big waste of money. These cans are safe to eat years past that date. I do believe some of the nutrients may be missing but it is still safe to eat especially in an emergency situation if there is no food available and that is all you have. So don't throw those expired cans away. They are good.

Thank you Belva! Don’t worry, we don’t throw them away, in fact I am very careful to make sure we use them before the suggested date. I believe all that you say is true, but in an abundance of caution, I need to be careful with what I say in order to be a responsible KZfaqr. 😊💗💕

Great video as always. I had one of those risers too and got frustrated with it for same reasons. It’s in time out in garage until I’m convinced I won’t use it again. I will have to see if these racks will fit on my shelves but my only issue is I’m single no kids and don’t always have that many of same kind of cans. I had modular mates too and loved them except mine started putting out all I can describe as a crayon (toxic) smell and several of the lids have cracked too. I’ve had mine since early to mid 90’s and I know I found online a lot of others have had same problem and Tupperware won’t honor their warranty. I’ve moved most of them to non food storage or got rid of them and now use Weck jars mostly. Only thing I have yet to find an alternative is the large rectangular ones I used for crackers but the smell is really making me desperate for a solution.

Thank you Hilary! I love Weck jars! They are great. I have had my modular mates since the late 90’s and don’t have that problem. I did buy them directly from Tupperware, so my warranty should hold. I’m sorry you are having that issue. 💗😊💕

I think I bought that exact rack several months ago, it’s very handy for canned goods. I can a lot of our food so I also need shelves for those jars. My pantry is in my basement as I have a lot of stuff stored.

Wow! What an impressive pantry. I struggle the worst with what I have and mind but get so frustrated deciding bins, racks, and just the organization. Your pantry is amazing. would you please let me know how deep your shelves are and how much space between each shelf? I have a space I'd like to transform and I have no clue where to start with dimensions.

Your pantry is amazing, Robin! The size of your pantry looks similar to the size of mine. I appreciate it so much because for years I only had a few cupboards. Great job! xx

Thank you Jennifer! This is the largest pantry I’ve ever had also. In our previous home I used a small utility closet for our extended pantry. The shelves were narrow and deep, but It worked! It definitely makes me appreciate what we have now. Hope you are having a wonderful start to your week! 💛🤗💛

@@FaithandFlour after a friend showed me how she made space in the bottom drawer of her dresser a few years ago, I have taken up the idea as well. Canned goods only. But since culling our clothes to only what we were, it was easy to use that space for an extended pantry.

Thanks Robin for this video. The date on top with a sharpie is such a good idea. I have thought about the can rack idea but have not tried it yet. Thanks for the motivation and great ideas. Plz let us know how the can rack works out for your family.

This looks amazing! In Canada it was def a little crazy when we first went in quarantine but now things are more back to “normal” but you never know! I’m curious to hear if the cereals keeps fresh? But if you are rotating that makes sense.
@FaithandFlour
@FaithandFlour 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! We use all of the cereals well before the “use by” dates, so they are always fresh. Rotation is key and so we will cycle through everything within about 3 months. 💗😊💕

Another tip: Write on the bottom or top of the can what is in the can. Labels easily come off or God forbid you have some type of flood in your house. The cans will still be good but more than likely the labels will be gone or destroyed.

I don't rotate any can foods or give them away either. Can foods are good for decades. I do write down the time I bought them though for information sakes.

But you have to take all of the existing cans out to put new ones "in the back"? Also, did you get everything that was on the shelf into the racks? Looks like there was some lost space.

Your pantry is is so HUGE, what a blessing! Do you worry about your grains/cereals/flours getting worms/bugs? I’ve been rotating mine through the freezer to prevent this. You seem like such a lovely person. 💕
@FaithandFlour
@FaithandFlour 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Michele! Currently I don't have the freezer space to rotate everything through - that is a great way to minimize any issues with bugs. We rotate through everything within 3 months or so, and so far I haven't had problems. I will be looking into ways to protect against that, including your suggestion! 💗😊💕
