Honestly he way overdid it. Linex probably would have been more practical and cheaper. Armor plates inside the doors, maybe a slanted grilldefender for your radiator.

I'm going to do this, but properly execute it. Get some Kevlar so the steele plates can be a lighter load, install a snorkel kit (place steele on pipe but not the intake) install overhead lights, if possible place some steele on the bottom to protect its belly. oh! And put a form of steele ring that fits the tire to allow it to move better, heavily modify the suspension, modify the steering, and of course modify the engine.

Donovan, this comment is three years late but you are absolutely correct. I laugh at these amateurs who don't understand the physics of the vehicle and what just adding armor on to a vehicle will do to its performance and reliability. Just like when we (military) (USMC Ret) did with the HMMWV.

That dinky half ton Suburban now weighs well over it's weight limit, you will probably break something, a spring, an axle shaft, wheel bearings, and be in the middle of nowhere with a 9000 pound Suburban that you now get to live in because that is all you have for shelter.

Its probably 10,000+ lbs. And I'd wager he'll pop a tire just sitting in the garage. If he tries to turn very quickly he'll roll the tire right off the bead as well, not to mention the issues you brought up.

I built the ultimate bug out truck for car shows and its usefull and i can drive it around town for fun and runs flawlessly. Its a 4x4 long wheel base chevy 2500 hd with the vortex big block that came jn them converted it to carberated with a msd ignition system huge super charger woth blower coming out of the hood its lofted only 2 inches that way its dtill stable to drive fast in corners and go off toad ad well. I have 6 racing seats in the bed and its framed in with 3/8 sheet steel for protection from bullets but not any type of gernad launchers and stuff like that could take it out easily. 210 shot nitrous system and makes 1100 hp to rear wheels with out nitrous and 1600 with nitrous. Very easy to drive and very reliable. Has three radiators that the coolant runs through in case one goes out or two. The bed where it has 6 mointed racing seats on a swivel locking system there is also two gun ports and two little bullet proof glass windows so each person can see when they gotta start returning fire. Its a fantasy build for car shows but its still 100 percent functional and stays 100 percent ready to bug out. Im currently building a camper that is armored and im currently building a underground bug out bunkers 4 if them on my family's hunting land that all we all share and all own a percentage of and they all pitching in money for the 4 bug out safety storm shelters as well and there will be a tunnel to connect them all together with a massive concrete and steel sheet reinforced doors to block off acces to the bunkers from the tunnels incase a bunker gets taken. The furthest family is a hours drive from the bunker and thats what my truck will be used for is getting each one of the families to the bug out shelter safely with protection and do it in the cover of night as well. The motor and exhaust is silent i have a muffler system that makes the exhaust silent you cant even hear it 10 feet away all you can hear is the electric fans and thats it and what ever slight noises and motoer and super charger makes. I know i might sound crazzy but i didnt believe in needing all of this stuff and that ppl who prep for post opocolyptic type end of the world fend for your self and your family only type situation until about 3 years ago when this country starting going down hill faster then it ever has and with all these wars going on in the world. The truck also has a 1/8 thick plate steel exoskeleton arounf the whole thing to protect it from rpgs where it will hit the exoskeleton first thats surrounding the truck to make sure there is less damage as possible from a rocket like that like our tanks and other vehicles have in the current military. The windshield is a small thin slit abour a foot wide and 3 feet long made of thick bullet proof glass that can with stand direct hits from a 50cal machine gun wasnt cheap cause i had to buy a old military surplus vehicle that had the bullet proof glass in it and thats where i got my bullet proof glass from and other exterior armor and gun mounts and other equipment and parts for my truck build. I also have a 50cal machine gun mount on the roof that you can open a hatchount a gun and fire but i font have the gun for it but during a end of world situation im sure ill come across a 50cal machine gun at some point off a dead person or a blown up camp or truck or what not. In waiting on my license to come through so i can ourchase a 50cal machine gun legally but which ever comes first i have a plan for one

I've ridden in a regular ol' Chevy vans back in the 80's in certain places in the world. They used aluminum plates on the inside where it isn't so noticeable, and 1" lexan inside the regular glass, sand bags on the floor. Never got shot at but it was better than nothing. And it was a lot lighter than this Suburban freight train......Just sayin'. LS

He'd be lucky to get 6 now...id have to say thats far from the ultimate bov but. To each their own. He'll run outta fuel before he actually gets anywhere.

Lets see, restricted airflow to the radiator, a LOT of extra weight. Was the rear end swapped out for a stronger unit to handle the weight and HP? What about the transmission? Shocks, springs, U-joints, door hinges, locks etc. And of course he will drive it around so everyone sees it. And someone will probably take notice, hmmmm.....wonder what else he has that I could use???? OH, and it's now been seen by at least 3,370 people.......

So it kinda looks like natgeo has just gotten lazy and will pay some random person to read off a que card. You don't have to know motors to know adding that much n2o to a stock motor will blow it quick then adding all that weight it's just going rev really high then you'll probably get to meet a piston or 2 impersonation. But obviously he wasn't a prepper reliability safety and low maintenance that's what makes a b.o.v. or any car really.

Why are so many preppers obsessed with “bugging out” and hiding in the woods? To me, it seems kind of cowardly. After any disaster, things will only get fixed by those who stay, unite, fight, and work towards accomplishing that. Those who run achieve nothing beyond avoiding the problem in favor of their own self-interests.
