I remember that show too although it's a while since I watched it and Otto building the gangway so that he didn't have to balance on the ridge of the roof to sweep the chimney.

Nice to see you again young man. We put one of the brushes on a cable so we just have to crank it up and down from a box behind the stove (no going on the roof anymore as there is a pulley at the top). Advantage of that is if you have a chimney fire, you can quickly run the brush up the chimney in under 5 minutes and it puts the fire out. Disadvantage is that the pulley needs to be cleaned every couple years.

When we were trying to figure out how to put it in, dropping it down with a helicopter was a real thought! We opted for the practical route.

Easy way to clean the glass. Take some ashes on a newspaper, rub it around on the glass and the soot comes right off.

A long time ago I learnt from my mother how to make curls to spread on the paper. Today uncle Otto taught me to shread that paper first. Still learning after all this time.

I’ve even use my old ashes on certain areas of my lawn where there are very large pine trees. The large pine trees cause specific areas of my lawn to be more acidic and the grass doesn’t grow as good there. Spread the ashes out in this area and mix it in with new damp soil and lawn seed and let nature do its thing.
