*The spring pole is a very simple trap design which utilizes a live sapling as an engine. With a few feet or cordage and a simple to carve trigger, you can easily set this trap up. That is very true! I actually experimented this same day beside an irrigation pond and caught two tiny sunfish with this system. I'd say that would be the very best use of this system, at least the highest yielding application. I hope to get some video of this very soon. Thank you for your time and interest!

Great video! Just an FYI, In Texas I (The land owner) can use snares to take nuisance animals such as rabbits, raccoons, opossums, and hogs. Year round! There are a tone of rabbit tails out on my property, maybe I should do a series testing all the primitive snare traps in real world scenarios. ;) Commercial trapping is Sep-March, the rest of the year I can trap them as nuisance animals but cannot sell the pelts.

It is definitely a last resort for survival, but to be the most successful it would have to be a neck snare hanging them off the ground which all experienced trappers know doesn't always happen. In my experience, it is usually foot and body snares. The problem there is with "cordage". they can chew through the cordage and escape. It's better than nothing but I would recommend bringing some wire for the actual snare and attach the cordage to the wir out of reach of the animals teeth for most successful results. After any "practice" attempts that was what worked 2nd best. The best options, of course, would be to get professionally made wire snares and carry with "just in case". They are actually pretty cheap.

I believe that is very solid advice. I think this would only be good as a last ditch effort and would most likely not be high yield. I believe using this system on the waters edge may be the best use to catch fish. I hope to get some video of that soon. Don't devalue it though. It WILL catch game, the tips I outlined will just make the chances a little better, but the setup WILL work. I just think the addition of wire in your gear will decrease the chances of a "chew through", so to speak. The meat trapper has a video on making a field snare with JUST a piece of wire and add that snare to your snare setup and I'll bring the seasoning and coffee for dinner. ;-)

I definitely believe you could using a stronger sapling and stake setup. Snare wire would also be a great upgrade for larger game like that. Thank you for tuning in Josh!
