This Hand-Tied Net Trap is for the Birds!

With a hand tied net, you can easily make this effective primitive trap for birds. If you were in a survival situation, the ability to make improvised traps and especially a bird trap could be very beneficial. Primitive survival skills are important to know in the event that you have very limited resources to work with. If you do have access to cordage, being able to improvise a net can help you to trap not only birds, but other small animals as well. This net trap uses a spring pole setup aka twitch up as an engine to make it easy to catch or snare birds. If you don't know how to hand tie a net, check the video just before this one to learn.

That’s a cool trip system. I need to practice my sewing. Had a grandfather and uncle that shrimped and made nets . They taught my father quite a bit. I have a buddy that’s a squirrel hunting nut , he’ll love this . Have a great evening

Great lessons on this and the last video. I've never tried making a net, and not sure I'll have the patience for doing it. But going to give it a shot, it's a definite good skill to at least have a working knowledge of. Thanks!!

That's a cool trap and liked the net tutorial. Maybe you could wedge a stick under that bottom bar while you're setting up the trap. That would keep you from triggering it during setup and then remove at the end.

Great video, per usual, and very detailed. You certainly know your craft. The trap seems to work great for 100' of #36, but what changes would you recommend if you were looking for bigger game? Let's say 1 pound of #36?

LOL, I'd up that net just a little 😂Maybe kevlar thread would be a good investment too? You know, I wish I could catch 1lb rolls of bank line out there, I'd have traps all over my woods! It would save me some money along the way!

One question regarding your net making video. I found the needles on SRO, but according to the description, it is just the needle. I thought you had said it includes the gauge block.

I actually got the gauges from Amazon. They were fairly cheap. If you check my amazon link, select the hunting, trapping & fishing tab and you will see the gauges and some other needles I have used. They work well.

The needle and cordage came from SRO and the gauges from Amazon. If you check my Amazon like in the description box, click the Hunting, Trapping & Fishing tab and you will see needles and gauges there also. Thank you for your interest!

Winged creatures (birds) are so light anyway, So don't see how this could actually catch a real bird. My roll of bankline weighs alot more than any bird other than a turkey.

This is a hair trigger when set right. If a bird of any size lands, it can catch them. It isn't 100% success ratio but no primitive style or improvised trap will be. It is a fun one to play with and an adaptable trigger to use with other devices such as snares. Thanks for taking the time to tune in.

Any bird with half a brain when it flys in is going to first land on your spring pole and the whole thing will collapse

That is a possibility but it doesn't necessarily go off from a bird landing. The bird will not always land on the pole first either. I have experimented with it enough to know that it will work. No improvised trap is 100% though for sure.
