I’d be amazed if Dan McLay survives the Vuelta without being disqualified. Within the space of the final kilometre he committed a shoulder charge, an elbow push and then a head charge after the finish line to top it off 😂

Tell me that you watched Merlier come into to McLay and box McLay between himself and Bennet. McLay held his ground and they drifted wide around the corner which opened the place on Ackermann’s wheel for Bennet.

The splits at the end were caused because of a crash at about 600 meters before the finish. I was actually watching at that exact point and you can see an intermache rider flipping over his bike at 5.36 minutes just at the bottom of the frame.

Yes that was Thijsen the young Belgien sprinter who won a sprint stage in the latest Tour of Poland. Sadly I did play Thijsen as a joker in most of my Vuelta pools. D.Impey was also part of that crash by the way. I hope he will recover because the first stage in the Basque Country is really made for him.

Why weren't they given the same time if the crash happened in the last 3km?
@maximonster2
@maximonster2 Жыл бұрын
@@andylovell1990 i think the riders that were part of the crash were given the same time. But it is a little weird in the end result because some people who were dropped before the 3k mark finished before the riders im the crash so they have a time penalty and than somebody who finised later doesn't. So for example Thijssen came 177th at 0.00 from the winner and De Marchi came 173rd at 2.22

Wouldn't be surprised if JV is trying to let as many dutch riders as possible riding in the red these first few days. Afterall with the time gap on everyone else, why not? Maybe Oomen tomorrow? Could ofcourse also just have been Teunissen taking the opportunity.

And that is not strange at all, if you follow cycling long enough you will know that they will ALWAYS do the opposite of what they are telling in front of a tv camera, or in any press release for that matter. (After the race Teunissen said that this was already discussed at the team meeting before today's stage. He will of course never say such thing before a race does start, therefore the answer he gave the Dutch and Belgian press before the stage. But that's normal, all cyclists do this. So next time you hear a rider say something, do know that he will probably do the opposite. (I'm do only follow cycling since 1974/75 ✌)

@@kraknoix0075 well as a leadout man if you consider both his sprinters won from behind him, you can hardly consider that a bad year. Compared to the heights he used to go, it is a down year, but most leadouts in the peloton can only dream of having of their sprinters win a stage thanks to them.

At 3.5k Carapaz had a clean line up the left hand side. Going to the front seemed to make good sense, safe. Ineos’ continuing to pace beyond 3k, beneath the overpass, was surprising. You will sometimes see a squad get nervous through a tunnel and want to stay out front in that circumstance, but here on the open road…odd.

Usually I thought half-wheeling was the problem for safety concern and not being so pushy to the person in front (usually in a tight single file/double line rotation). However, in this case, the three trains are far apart from each other, so to some extent, they ride their own pace...Why were Bahrain getting mad? Thanks for clarification.

@@rosscads I get that but QS doesn’t infiltrate Bahrain’s train or mess with it by any mean, so if QS wants and is capable to up the tempo, they are free and fair to do so in a safe manner imo. It could be their race tactic and what not so I just can’t understand why it is making Bahrain mad, unless Bahrain felt toasted and just raged out of desperation...Or is it some etiquette involved that I am unaware of?

On the podcast you spoke about QS leading Remco while Rog chilled 40 riders back. If JV has such a strong team, I’d take Rog to the front like Remco until final km then coast.
