This is part 1 of 2 videos were I go over some basic pro tips on pre-wiring your new construction home for low voltage wire. I go over installation of pre-construction in-wall and in-ceiling speaker brackets and how to place them in your theater room. I also give you some basic tips for in-wall speaker wire and in-wall cat5 cat6 and coax cabling. This is a basic overview only. This video does not go over every detail of the install. I do recommend consulting a professional installer for a more detailed analysis of your particular installation. Also, some states may have restrictions for low voltage wiring, so check your states regulations before attempting to do the wiring yourself.
I have wired many homes this way with great success.
Enjoy the video and I hope you learn something that will help you on your installation.
Until next time, keep dreaming!

Another pro tip. Use colored cabling (other than white) for large systems (Green or purple for speakers, orange for APs, blue for hardwired network, yellow for phone etc.) Try to use 14 gauge or thicker. If you have time, build boxes for your speakers.

Thanks for the tips with the speakers, it helps a lot 👏 another tip, you can use Velcro rolls and cut them into straps to use for your wire bundles. A lot less time consuming and messy when you go to finishing stages 👌😀

Nice video...I install as well....My recommendation is to put a sealed junction box in for your speaker main area,,,,Too many times I learned the hard way. Sheetrock installers just cut wires that are close to the sides of the box and move on. I've had HDMI destroyed this way. They only care about the sheetrock.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have done this in the past and works well, but some installs don't require a box or the client doesn't want to pay for it. I just bag everything up and try to make it as easy as possible for the installers. I've been lucky so far. Thanks

Thanks for the video and sharing your knowledge. Is it required that the low voltage conduit be orange? I have seen blue conduit like that orange conduit in the big box stores.
@avdreamer8250
@avdreamer8250 3 жыл бұрын
No it's not required, however the blue conduit you see in the stores are typically only 1". Unless you are doing a very short run and it is straight. the blue conduit is to small. The orange conduit that I use is 2". HDMI and other cables run through this much smoother. Thanks for the comment. Please Like and subscribe if you haven't already. this help my channel alot. Thanks

Good video, thanks. It looks like the speaker wires are mostly NOT attached to studs or joists in their long runs, but only here and there with the black zip ties? So, no need to carefully pin the speaker wire to wood every few feet?
@avdreamer8250
@avdreamer8250 7 ай бұрын
Hello, Yes the speaker wires are screwed to some studs with loose zip ties. You got of be careful where to do this. Keep away from ALL electrical wires if possible. I try to run the cables in such a way to make things as easy as possible for the insulators and sheet rockers. Sometimes they just don't pay attention or care about stepping on or pinching your wires. Thanks for the comment.

So if I wanted to do surround sound speakers for a client as a electrician (no low voltage experience besides garage sensors and tv/ph), I would just prewire 16x2 separately to each speaker? The client bought 14x2 speaker wire, would that work as well or is 16x2 speaker recommended? I heard there is a 3-5-7 speaker rule?
@avdreamer8250
@avdreamer8250 3 жыл бұрын
14x2 is fine. I use that in most of my installs. Remember not to run any speaker wire close to electrical wire. If you have to cross a electrical wire, do it a 90 degrees. The rule of 3rds that your referring to is for speaker placement. Here's a article regarding speaker placement. Thanks for the comment. Please subscribe if you haven't already. What ga wire do you run? We just moved into our home and I see the media place in Jacksonville wired 18ga speaker wire throughout. Perhaps I should’ve asked what wire they planned to use but when I mentioned I wanted runs for 7.2.4 and multiple 20-amp circuits in the media closet for my separate amps and two 20-amp circuits in the theater for my subwoofers, I thought they would’ve ran (at least) 14ga. Now I need to get someone in here to reside :/
@avdreamer8250
@avdreamer8250 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Judd, I use 16 to 14ga throughout. 18ga will work on shorter runs and lower power for whole house audio. for a theater room, I use 14ga minimum for all surrounds. I use 10 to 12ga for the front LCR(towers), 14 to 12ga for inwalls. Thanks for your questions. Please subscribe if you haven't already.

Quick question - for whole house audio do you run 1 speaker wire per zone ( let say one zone has 6 speakers ) and hook them up in series? or run 1 wire per speaker ?
@avdreamer8250
@avdreamer8250 Жыл бұрын
Well, that depends on a lot of factors. System planning is very important. How do you plan on controlling your system? What kind of amplifier are you using? What is the impedance of your speakers, 8, 4 ohms? What gauge speaker wire are you using. Are you wanting multiple zones? These are just a few of the questions you need to consider in putting your system together. If you need equipment, I can help. Please reach out. I offer free system planning if you purchase from me. Thanks, happy planning.

Quick question... can you daisy-chain outside 6 or 8 inch speakers? I want to group 6 speakers in pairs then run 3 the sets of wires home.
@avdreamer8250
@avdreamer8250 Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late replay, had to step away for a few weeks. What type of speakers are these? In-ceiling, on-wall enclosed, pedestal speakers on a spike poll etc. "daisy-chain" is not recommended if you are using 8ohm speakers. You can damage your amplifier if you have to many speakers hooked up to the same speaker terminals. You can do it if you know the proper wiring sequence. Using a combination of parallel and series wiring can work, but it gets pretty complicated making sure to keep the ohms load to your amp correct. A distribution amp or a speaker switch works best. If you use a 70 volt system, you can daisy-chain speakers in a line, but you have to speaker that will work with a 70 volt system. 70 volt systems are typically used in commercial systems. I do offer outdoor speaker systems. Reach out if you are looking for equipment. Thanks

Sorry for the late response. Had a little surgery. Like in the video, put the open backed boxes where you want your low voltage wire (speaker, Cat5 etc) to come out of the wall. Do not mix low voltage wire with AC wire. You will need to run these low voltage wire yourself or hire a pro to do it. The drywall installers will cut out openings anywhere you put your boxes. Thanks for the question.
