Problems With The Cheapest Air Bag Suspension?

Going over some of the issues that I've had with the bagged Mercedes W126. I bagged this 300 SDL with the cheapest parts I could find and of course that means I ran into a couple failures. Namely the scary situation of a ptc fitting blowing out the line... twice.

Oh it doesn't go up nearly as slow as I was expecting from what you said. Not bad at all. Holy crap that free Rabbit is a good one. That's the beefiest back seat I've ever seen. You should be able to add some rear sound deadening to dull the compressor noise a bit. Def happy to see more vids.

Take the torsion bar out and grind the hex or splined end so it slips in the hole. Weld on an arm off the torsion bars now moving end and put an air bag between the new arm and something rigid.

That's actually a very respectable amount of time. The factory air ride system in Lincoln's and some Chevys take several minutes to go from empty up to standard ride height.

Yeah if you wanna do it cheap this way definitely works, I think the only thing I found sketch was the PTC fittings and the plastic line. I am gonna switch to hard line for sure in the future and add some gauges.

I can’t believe you bagged that merc for 600 bucks bro , wow that’s amazing and for it to work at all is a bonus. Screw the time going up and down I thought it was pretty damn respectable. I’ve been lead to believe this stuff cost many thousands and way out of most of our budgets but 600 bucks is so affordable. I’ve got a jag xf so might think about doing it now ! Much respect thanks man 🙏👍

You have a natural mechanical ability, I do also. I have a suggestion, on the drain plug, hook up another quick connector and run the line out side to the ground. I have a manual push button air release on mine. It's in the middle of the line. Just push it and water drains to the ground.

A little bit of silicone spray on the airline will help it slip past the o-ring inside the PTC fitting. Once there's air pressure going through the line I like to pull on the airline to ensure that the PTC fitting is gripping it like it should and make sure it can't blow off.
@TheSocialPraxis

It came out great man. I didn't even know you could go that route you took. Add a second compressor for it to air up quicker. You could also heat up those fenders just a little and roll'em. These cars absolutely look great dropped like that. She just needs a good wash and detail. Maybe a replacement front light too lol. Cheers 🍻

I must have watched this series 15 times mate Inspired me to bag my W124. The only difference I'm doing is I found an 8 port tank, and I'm running 1 feed to each corner, seens as your main complaint is the speed of airing up. Thanks for the information man, it's been really handy

Cheers for the heads up mate but I already bought the bags, cups and rear shocks from a guy I follow on Instagram! Hey mate actually, while you're here, the actual reason I was watching the series for the 16th time The paddle switches, some have PTC fittings some are barbs, seems I can't get the PTC paddles over here in the UK, so I was relived to see you've used the barbed ones too Am I worrying about nothing thinking its risky just having a barb holding up to 200psi? Presume you've never had a problem?
@wideband
@wideband 2 жыл бұрын
@@OliVer-iy2jq the barbs are an extremely tight fit. I have zero fear that a correctly installed line would come off. You have to use heat just to get the line all the way on. Honestly i have had 2 ptc fittings blow the line out and one that had a slight leak so I'm more weary of those.
@OliVer-iy2jq
@OliVer-iy2jq 2 жыл бұрын
Ah perfect cheers mate, that's put my mind at rest! I'll just go ahead and order the ones with barbs Regarding the rear shocks I did look into it and seems to be a W123 issue, the W124 is a separate shock and spring so I should be all good. Thanks again for the inspiration mate, sure I'll be watching it again as I work through mine

Found this bag-a-Mercedes-on-the-cheap series and watched all of the content with interest. I'm considering bagging my wife's Crown Victoria, which is also a heavy 4-door vehicle like yours, but all of the "kits" run around $2500 and up. Not sure that we want to invest that much in an air ride system, so your cheap approach drew my attention. I'd be interested in seeing the slightly-upgraded bagging of the VW, sure, as I would like to see which upgrades you would choose and whether or not they were worth it by comparison to what is on the W126. Anyway thanks.

Cups are too short up front. You're losing too much tank volume before the bag encounters any resistance from the car. If you're bags were completely flat at whatever height you want it to be at it's lowest then as soon as you start raising the vehicle every cubic inch of air is going towards lifting the vehicle and you're losing less pressure in your tank from equalization. Hope this helps. Just redo your bottom cups. Easy peasy.
