If you put a Coloramp between the Voronoi-texture and the Dsiplacement-node, you can fine-tune the 'facets' of the crystal. Edit. I remember I once used a grayscale texture on a refractive-node on a simple plane to create a lense-effect in DAZ3D back in 2009 or so. Should work in Blender as well.

A great, clear tutorial, and very timely. I make projected backdrops for stage shows and I have to make an Aladdin's cave full of jewels, gold and crystals. I turned up the scale on the sphere to end up with a very spiky crystalline structure, which looks really effective - like the inside of a geode. I really appreciate hearing how you think about the nodes as you decide what you need and how you place and connect them. Procedural materials are making a LOT more sense thanks to you. I took a quick look at Eevee Displacement Modifier on the Object, but it seems to only want an image map to drive displacement. I didn't see a way to tie the Voronoi node in through the modifier.
@RyanKingArt
@RyanKingArt 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, to use the displacement modifier and displace the mesh in Eevee, you will need to displace it using a texture on the texturing panel.

Another thing that many ppls dont use when creating texture is the IOR setting, its at 1.45 bu default, the crystal IOR is 2 and it make it look evne more realistic.

@@parv1304 If you go to the Render Properties on the side panel, you can open the, light paths settings. Open the Max Bounces, and Make sure the total, and Transparent, are turned up to like a 3. Also make sure your doing this in the Cycles render engine, instead of Eevee.

When I move the noise texture to height the texture becomes bright pink. Why?
@RyanKingArt
@RyanKingArt 2 жыл бұрын
Are you using Blender Eevee? Eevee seems to have a bug with procedural nodes, where if it gets too hard for Blender to calculate the procedural nodes, it turns pink. You could try using Cycles.

😱😱😱🤯🤯🤯😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩 next. How to create custom leaf node shader from scratch ( not photo texture. ) So we can be added with some kind of style leaf, such as alien leaf. So for example, in the small stem, the middle leaf is purple, while on the sides we can make it blue and the blue color is like a mosaic branch.

Ryan Bob King Ross pulls it off again. This one is awesome! Do you know of any way to add like a smoky effect in the crystal?
@RyanKingArt
@RyanKingArt 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, you could use a principled volume shader. Plug that into the volume in the material output, and then you can use a noise texture, or some other texture, and plug that into the density of the principled volume.
