TBH if you want a perfect sub, use your ears and A,B one of your favorite tracks in the drop, put ozone or some type of multiband compressor just so you can solo the low and kind of compare and contrast how your low end sounds in vol and in power, vs the pro.

it truly fascinates me how the low end, sub can carry a life all on its own. bring it to life give it character w/ saturation distortion and let it breath through higher frequencies, can be left alone untouched, then mixed w/ other wave forms from harmonics of another sub. sheesh it has such a story.

I also hear that a pure sine osc with a second osc that has very minimal amplitude and consist of a square, is the perfect method of creating a monster subbass, but remember, MINIMAL amplitude, that means only a few ticks turned on, like if you solo it it is almost like distant.

150 hz high pass filter on the "non-sub" bass seems a bit high to me. You'd then have a gap between 100- 150 hz which would sound weird

Why is your sub bass so freaking huge? I make a 1 voice sine wave in Sylenth and Sytrus and it shows up as a super slim line in the EQ. Thanks for the advice dudes!

+Vincent Menard (Bédo) this was an older version of FL. they reworked the UI of the PEQ2 when 12 came out, so the harmonics you see are still there it's just a different look.

I realize this is all pre master but I usually mono everything under 120-150hz when mastering, and just make a resonant high pass around 30hz, that gives me more headroom to work with. And of course I always layer in a 3xosc sine with the crc's turned off, purest sine imo.

@stevezac_cptlpnshmnt

It's because the original sound has two oscillators de-tuned from one another which cause the sound to wobble.
@ShallieDragon
@ShallieDragon 9 жыл бұрын
In one of my songs, I am applying a rapid low-pass filter to the sub, so that it wobbles in time with the main bass sounds (FM basses, distorted wobbles, etc.). I'm also applying a sidechain compressor to duck the sub around the kick. Is this kind of sub modulation acceptable, or is it better to have a sub that's totally rock-solid the whole time?

What he said ^
@tahjphoenix2703
@tahjphoenix2703 9 жыл бұрын
Yes it is fine, in fact it's probably better to sidechain around the kick so that you don't have conflict between the kick and the sub. That way you can still keep a hard hitting bass drum instead of cutting it out
@DistantAngel64
@DistantAngel64 9 жыл бұрын
i think i remember reading somewhere infected mushroom does a (pretty much) side chain for kick and sub for a lot of their stuff.
@OmenAhead
@OmenAhead 8 жыл бұрын
+ShalMusicFX I am wondering what the low pass does to the sub since the sub is just a few harmonics, so what is the low pass rapidly wobbling, except for its volume? :P my opinion is that if you are about to "rapidly" modulate the sub, then dont do that because you will have an unstable low end that will not sound good and phat. i dont know if its the correct way, but I try to use midi notes on the sub to kinda make it follow the wobbles (for example, triplet wobbles = triplet notes for the sub). About the sub sidechain, u're doing good

Would there be any benefit to making your sub channel on the mixer mono, via the stereo separation knob dealy? I've been using FL since v3 and the way it deals with mono vs stereo channels still baffles me.

How low should a subbass tone be? I've heard 65hz or lower for the sub tone so I've just been doing that.
@TwoThreadsAhead
@TwoThreadsAhead 9 жыл бұрын
Might be a schoolboy question haha but I'm glad you touched upon this as I've been pondering some things in regard to something similar myself, so I'm curious, how effective do you think this would be to do if you were using already rendered audio and don't have the patches you used ? so essentially, if I have a pattern of say about 5-6 differently designed shots and wanted to reinforce the lows of the pattern as a whole rather than per individual shot, do you reckon I will run into any kind of issues as long as the fundamental notes are the same in each layer ?

When I do a sinewave Fruity EQ2 doesn't show me a single band.. it shows me multiple bands between 20 and 60 Hz. Am I doing something wrong? Could it be the clicking sound that for some reason is produced? The note is low enough and it definitely is a sub bass.

If i use a basic supporting sub like this the sub instrument varies in perceived volume on different frequencies. How do i make my sub notes sound equally as powerfully sounding on different notes ?
@Zenthex
@Zenthex 9 жыл бұрын
Honestly it's probably just the room your in. Especially if you're in a small untreated room.
@Brainfly-
@Brainfly- 9 жыл бұрын
You can't. Some notes just have more sub to them. What you can try is automating the EQ levels :)
@Zenthex
@Zenthex 9 жыл бұрын
BrainflyPersonal not recommended. again, the room you're in plays a huge roll in what notes sound loud to you, and they're different for every room. it's better to just leave it flat.
@brzr561
@brzr561 9 жыл бұрын
Zenthex BrainflyPersonal tx for the reply guy's ,the room thing could be a factor however i usually do my sub mixing with a headset anyway and then switch 2 my speakers and sub woofer after that. i'm pretty sure there r actually some techniques 2 counter the lowering in power of the sub the lower you get. Like for example routing the sub instrument to 2 diffrent channels .1 channel is the pure sub with the low end EQ and a side chain on it while the other channel, (purely used for mixing in body) has a high pass on it with maybe some subtle wave shaping .

Dunno. Most of the bass in trap comes from the kick, right? There shouldn't be a lot of other disruptive elements in the low end, so a separate sub seems unnecessary.

Why 150Hz? Is there a more scientific explanation?
@blacklistnr1
@blacklistnr1 9 жыл бұрын
Well, it's below 200 Hz (where the mids usually start) and above 120 Hz(a frequency I found to be very "bassy", at least with my current setup); it's basically a general cross-over between bass and mids, but the exact point will vary from song to song Hope it helps ;)

I have also heard from a (smart music maker) lol that 150hz is the perfect roll off point for a bass patch and that oddly enough, the subbass roll off point should be 200hz, i dont know why, i just know said person has some of the best mixdowns known to music.
