I love this series.Best tutorials I have found on youtube so far as I wanted to learn the actual "maths" behind the sound.

Dude that was so cool! I've always wondered how to create those seemingly simply digital sounds. When you showed us how that bell sound was made by adding simple FX to a basic sine wave mt mind was blown!! Thanks, this was great :)

Wow, that was totally awesome and simplified, and the way you used PE2, wave candy to explain all that made it really easy to understand. Also showing how you create that signature sound of yours was awesome! thanks a lot.

Anyone else try to make the bell with sytrus straight after the tutorial? I did and ended up trying to make a song.

if a saw has infinite harmonics, and a square has half of the saw, the square has infinite harmonics doesn't it?

You totally left out what frequency and amplitude is. You know, showing "Y is volume and X is time. The tighter the cycles go, the higher sound and vice verca."

Yeah that would have been useful in this video. For some reason I had it in my head to separate how phase cancellation works into its own video and I figured that information would make more sense next to that instead of rehashing it. Which might not have been the right call ;p

Hey Seamless love yourr tutorials. I was wondering if u could make a tutorial more on the application of music theory and why you use the notes and chords that you do! I've studied music theory in school and I just can't get anything going on besides a basic melody, baseline, and chord progression. Your the best!

Hey Seamless I don't know if you read this but have you tried making a bass by automating the wave shaper thingy (I don't know its name but it's the one on sytrus you were using to create sine waves and square waves you know...) I think it could be creative right?

Whenever I play any note higher than like C5, I get crazy aliasing in Sytrus. Anyway to get rid of that?
@SeamlessR
@SeamlessR 10 жыл бұрын
Go onto the main page of sytrus and engage oversampling. Higher notes will need higher amounts of oversampling to avoid aliasing.
@Ywsna

You can also enable bandlimiting on the oscillator page, like Seamless has in the video. Then you don't need to use oversampling

Is there any practical use of a triangle wave?
@brandondelehoy
@brandondelehoy 10 жыл бұрын
One way is using it as a sort of "sub" in some chiptune-y/older songs. Other than that, I haven't really seen any other use for it. Huh.
@PeterLawrenceYT
@PeterLawrenceYT 10 жыл бұрын
They sound great with distortion without becoming harsh, for example a 909 kick is a triangle wave and if you listen to Hardstyle/Hardcore, the kicks are created from distorting that.

If you use pluck on a triangle wave, it makes a really good bell sound. Try it!

Question: is FM subtractive synthesis or additive
@StanR-li1fk
@StanR-li1fk 10 жыл бұрын
It's Frequency Modulation synthesis. Not related to additive/subtractive at all. Although, Sytrus can do additive and subtractive synthesis too.
@andrewmartinjames
@andrewmartinjames 10 жыл бұрын
It's it's own thing but I believe it's rooted in subtractive synthesis because you don't add harmonics in order to make new sounds.
@StanR-li1fk
@StanR-li1fk 10 жыл бұрын
***** Yep. Still, in Sytrus you can build waveform out of individual harmonics, which is pretty cool.

You could have shown how to make a pulse wave using 2 saws to show the similarity.. In Sytrus, you'd turn on Operator 1 to 100% and Operator 2 as -100% and set the starting phase (the knob that says PHS under the Freq offset HZ bit) of Operator 2 to 50% to create a square wave, and anything else would be a pulse. You can detune one of the operators to make the pulse width change as the sound plays.
