The song is based on a quote by Martha graham "A dancer dies twice. Once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful". They are talking about fear of losing their passion for what they do. Lyrics goes like this in the start ; They say my heart isn’t beating anymore When I listen to music Tryna pull up As if time has stopped Oh that would be my first death I been always afraid of If this can’t make me cry anymore If this can’t make my heart tremble anymore Maybe I’ll die like this But what if that moment’s right now Right now

The person you said who was half a beat late at @ 11:30, that’s Jimin, he does that often, and due to this a lot of people, even the members themselves, have said that he’s a slow dancer but fans who dance professionally have explained that it’s not that Jimin dances slowly but that he “dances in the pocket”. He looks slower compared to others, but when you watch him on his own (as in block out the others when you watch him dance) he always hits the beat at the right time. Also the reason why he often catches your eye even when dancing in a crowd. They said it’s something that a person doesn’t simply learn but “dancing geniuses are born with”. 👉🏽👈🏽

Well, personally, as a dancer myself, I do get a little bit bothered by Jimin's dancing sometimes. While I do admire him a lot, when the group is aiming for uniformity it does get distracting (it's just one of those things you have to do when you're in a group). Plus, Black Swan is admittedly his element and his approach here is outstanding. What makes me love Jimin more is because he recognizes that! I've seen him acknowledge his habit and Jhope points it out too.

I love the contemporary touch in this performance💜 Also, at 20:28 V (the member at the left back) kicked Jhope (left middle) right in the face. They talk about it after in a livestream, Jhope said it was so strong that he almost fainted, but managed to keep dancing. That's dedication, strength and professionalism. knowing those things makes you appreciate dancers even more💜 they give all for giving the audience a cool performance

Is true that BTS songs are almost all upbeat, but their meanings are usually dark, sad or deep xD.. is like their signature xD. I like to say they transform the sad and dark times into funny happy times💜 This song is about losing the passion for what you love.. based on the phrase of black swan "a dancer dies twice in his life, the first one when they stop dancing, and that's the most painful one". As an Illustrator and painter who suffers from depression... I relate to this song on a personal level, I know the feeling of losing the passion for what you love and I can say is pretty painful, bc you still love it and want to do it but your passion goes away you can't do it and there's no joy in doing it... I loved that the choreo ends exactly how they started, bc this kind of feeling is a cycle. They always tell a story with the choreo even if is not the coolest, extreme and beautiful choreo they can make

This contemporary piece was done for Jimin - the only member who has studied contemporary dance (among other various genres) before joining BTS. He has lots of amazing solo parts during their award shows performances, during their concert and also a free-styled gorgeous dancing during the making of the music video for this song. Jimin is the Black Swan 🙌 P.S.: Jimin and J-Hope *ARE* professional dancers. They've been such before BTS, competed on various dance competitions, have done underground competitions, studied dance extensively. Those two are main dancers and 100% professional dancers, not just idol performers. P.P.S.: no, Jimin wasn't off or late, that's how choreo goes. It was supposed to be like that 😅

The way you focus at the big picture and spot the details/mistakes reminds me of J-Hope, considered the performance leader of BTS. They all have the habit of reviewing and monitoring their performances, but J-Hope is the spotter. The other members say when they make a mistake, their eyes automatically go to JH and they feel good when JH praises them. You can see examples in videos like "When Hobi switches to dance teacher mode".

I danced ballet for maybe 15 or 16 years and my favourite part of this piece is how they can somehow make hip hop look like swans. I actually saw a slow-mo'd version of this dance practice and Jimin (the one you said was half a second late) was actually the only one who hit beat "on the beat" or . I mean Black Swan's choreo is more like contemporary and some of the things taught is to elongate the limbs and make a second for a step last which Jimin did. But of course once you look at them one by one with the slow mo, it looks on point and like it fit into the beat. It's actually really prevalent in a lot of their dance, especially for both Jimin and Jhope but even though it seems Jimin's offbeat, he actually isn't. Here's some link for this. A slow-mo'd black swan dance practice (the slow mo'd that was in twitter was deleted which showcased Jimin) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/btqBq5uI2862hX0.html A side-by-side comparison of Jhope and Jimin dancing to the same song with same routine twitter.com/lovelyjimi13/status/1295498027256492033?s=20 It's really just how they interpret the beat and how their dance styles can be different.

I just now saw this, 3.5 months after it was posted! Someone has probably already said this, since I'm so late to the party, but It's not that Jimin is late, as in, he's NOT behind the beat. His hits are always right on the beat. (And I'm talking IN GENGERAL, I'm not saying he's NEVER messed up! LOL!) It's just that he takes a little longer to get there, especially in choreo that has a more contemporary or modern feel. He extends every moment to it's utmost, but when it comes to the hit, he's right on it. I think the best example for me is the group contemporary special performance he did with other classically trained kpop dancers at the November 2016 SBS Gayo. There's one moment in particular when he and N (from Vixx) run and leap to the front of the stage, and then sweep their arms around. If you watch them together, it looks like Jimin is behind N. But if you watch a solo fancam of Jimin, he's right on the beat. I think in most group choreos he does try his best to match the other dancers so they look as synchronized as possible, but for that particular piece he had EXTREMELY limited time to learn the choreo and practice together, and I know Jimin himself said he thought his performance was lacking. But the choreographer for that piece talked about him specifically and said she was so impressed by his dancing and wanted to work with him again. They've worked with several professional choreographers who have praised Jimin's musicality--for the way he FEELS the music so intensely. Thanks for your BTS reactions and analysis--I'm really enjoying them!

Actually Jimin’s not offbeat or late, he is doing something very few dancers can do which is pushing and pulling the rhythm. He slows down his movement and then suddenly accelerates at certain parts but he always hits the beat right at the perfect time, he’s simply playing with the pace of the moves between the two consecutive beats. This tendency comes from his contemporary dancing back ground and natural talent to interpret the music

BTS used to practice 16 hours a day in their trainee days. Those boys have worked so hard and all the hype they get is well deserved. Also, their dancing improved a lot, especially since the only members with prior dance experience were J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook. Jimin went to dance school, J-Hope did street dance, and Jungkook went to the US to learn dance. The other members got really good over the years. V caught on really quickly and he's just naturally good, and Jin, RM and Suga are so improved now and actual dancers. If they make a mistake here and their, it's either because WE ALL MAKES MISTAKES WE'RE HUMAN NO ONE IS PERFECT, or in their concerts where they perform HOURS straight, it's because they're exhausted.

I think Jimin, Suga and Tae since Wings era and onwards were given the ok to be themselves and interpret art their own way so they started showing their individuality in choreo compared to before when they were so much more clean and in sync because that's what they were being judged on as newbies. Once they decided to use all sorts of art as inspiration, they've just gone at their own pace and seem to interpret the beat and choreo in their own way but it really makes them stand out not in a bad way. ^^

it would've been cool to hear you compare between different styles and to make it look on that pro of a level. Only because it's very hard, i think to switch or flip the energy but also the technique of it too, which is waaaay different than Dynamite and Dionysus

Dude you have got to see butterfly and let go by bts, the transitions and formations and both of those songs are ridiculous and as a dancer their things that you'll see that other people can't even see that are going down in those videos that are mad crazy the footwork the handwork it's just a sight a beautiful sight to the eye from both of those songs.

When they 1st performed this live, which was on the James Corden show, it was their first time performing barefoot. The set was amazing like they were performing on a lake, and when they did the floor routine V actually kicked J-hope in the head slightly during the flip. They laugh about it now, but they were flawless even during that. Stage was just so small.

i just discovered bts a few months ago and after watching a few videos, i became a big fan. i like watching reaction videos just to see if what i am feeling and seeing were the same as theirs. this is the first time that i watched your video and i can say that you're the only one who dissects their dance practice to look for mistakes and how 'half a second' off' one member was on the routine. i bet a lot of us won't even notice a full second off . i understand that not all members can rap, not all can sing perfectly and not all can dance that intensive. but bts is amazing. i am always in awe with their performance. i don't think i would want to listen to a professional singer saying how off pitch someone is singing, or to a professional rapper pointing out that the rhythmic pattern of the rap is not good or a professional dancer pointing out the weird spacing of the dance routine for a whole entire month. I believe nobody is perfect-not even professionals, but once bts perform, they are astonishing and would even think they are perfect. just saying.

Fun fact. One of the members got kicked in the face by another member due to how small the stage was when they did the little side flip from the floor to standing. Despite saying it hurt so bad he almost passed out, he finished the stage performance

I paused to read the 'comment of the week' and realized it was mine (LOL). My kid says I'm famous now. Thanks for the reaction, I really enjoyed it as always. What I found interesting when watching the performance video was just how small the stage was (barely seemed to fit them all) and yet the performance didn't feel constrained or lacking in movement. I'm guessing they choreographed with the size in mind. Someone recommended 'Seventeen' which would be interesting. Another youtuber did a computer analysis of kpop videos and that group came out as the most synchronized. Looking forward to the Taemin vid tomorrow.

More like half a second. It's interesting cuz during performances he's usually tighter, but when he is a bit late, it almost feels like the beat is literally effecting him. It's such a cool effect.
@lightefilit
@lightefilit 3 жыл бұрын
He's not late. If you place him outside BTS, he's perfectly on beat. It's "in the pocket" dancing, many dancers would love that ability because it proves your insane musicality. Additionally, he's the only member who extends his posture and lines to transition smoothly, instead of just "doing the next move", so together with the rest of BTS it might feel like he's "out of sync" :)
@indigodragon0613
@indigodragon0613 3 жыл бұрын
@@lightefilit I forgot that there was a term for that! Technically he's never really out of sync with the other boys. He just moves differently due to his training with contemporary. As someone who studied ballet, it definitely influences how you move even in day to day life.

@@lightefilit aww I didn’t say he was late, I meant that’s just his style lmao but he was frustrated about it when he mentioned it in a video, and yeah his musicality is amazing and his lines are beautiful

Interesting fact about the live performance you watched. The stage was so tight that V kicked J-Hope in the head. You can see J-Hope grab his temple quickly and move on like nothing happened. I had to rewatch it multiple times to catch it. They really perform so incredibly well!!

Love the reaction -- as you are professional dancer i truly the extensive analysis of the choreography --- im not a dancer but i watch a lot of dance competitions and i love a beautiful performance tied with a good dancing technique -- i also contemporary dance and i do give props for incorporating contemporary dance into their regular star -- they did a great job in my view -- i love how say "pa" to vocalize dance steps ---- one of the members has a history of street dance, his name is Jhope, they have videos of him helping the other members, he says "pa" like you 🖒

Thank you for this thorough reaction! I really appreciate the attention you give to these. And yes, they are sent from God. ;-) You'll know Martha Graham's name. She's quoted at the beginning of the Art Film for this song that BTS made - which was actually this song's worldwide debut. They had a Croatian dance company featured in it. As a former dancer, I recommend it to all my friends who dance. The message is what they wanted to convey first, so they weren't in that video. P.S. I would recommend the following for the future: * 'ON' dance practice & MAMA 2020 performance - hype & integrates a large number of backup dancers & other performers * ''Fake Love' dance practice & MMA 2018 performance - another serious song with poetic choreography
