I'm glad that with Snivy, we were able to get a better confirmed grasp of the gender of most of Ash's pokemon (albeit with his Unova pokemon, but the only one we never found out was Boldore)

@@Joey15811And or perhaps the genderless/gender unknown identification that they have in pokemon such as like magnezone or porygon. Albeit now that i think about it, the they/them pronoun might be applied in the pokemon world with those pokemon that are more pokemon that count as one being, like Dodrio, Falinks, or Maushold

Ash’s Snivy is so underrated has a lot of potential. I would have liked have to have seen Snivy’s original trainer who she abandoned and I would have liked to have seen Snivy evolve.

That concept sounds really cool Like maybe she's proven right and that trainer is still a really bad trainer but after spending time with Ash and seeing this guy's Pokémon cheering for him she decides (alongside Ash) help him to learn more and be better, maybe having some Sort of climatic battle to make her evolve and ending in good terms with her previous trainer before leaving, this actually solve most of her issues I think she also could have learned a New move in this hypotetical situation learning and improving with his new and old trainer (Snivy does not have a really good movepool so maybe just another grass type move like Giga Drain or Solar Beam sounds fine)

I always wondered if Snivy’s backstory was a rewrite of the mid-season rewrites that happened because of the real-life tragedy. I thought it would be cool if she had previously owned by Team Plasma, and maybe that would factor into later episodes? Alas, we will never know.

I love Ash's Snivy, she is one of his strongest female teams, Snivy is the 4th strongest pokemon of his Unovan team. I would like to see her win more battles and appear in more episodes.

Snivy is definitely one of the most interesting Pokemon that Ash caught in Unova, mainly due to being extremely powerful right from her debut episode. Because she was stated to have abandoned her previous trainer due to their lack of skill, I don't think she was abused like some people seem to think she was; rather she was extremely proud of her abilities and didn't think her original trainer could live up to her high standards -- in that regard, she's actually fairly similar to Ash's Greninja from the following series, with Greninja even being written the way it was to make up for Snivy not getting the chance to live up to her full potential in Best Wishes. Said pride also could very well explain why she never evolved, since she must not have believed she needed to extra strength it could give her to reach her full potential; similar to the way that Ash's Pikachu doesn't want to evolve because he wants to prove that he doesn't need to do so to utilize his full strength. Having said that, it could also very well be that the reason Snivy never evolved was due to the writers not knowing how to convincingly make a feminine Servine or Serperior; it could also have something to do with Trip having the same Pokemon as his ace, and before anyone says that this is able to be disproven by Torterra, that Pokemon was never really shown to be Paul's ace, especially since it didn't appear until a good deal later in the series. All in all, Snivy is one of the more memorable Pokemon Ash had in Unova in my opinion, and while many believe she has great untapped potential, i kinda think that she is interesting because she was more or less already at her peak when Ash caught her

It would have been awesome if Snivy was Ash's best Starter Pokemon from the Unova Region that fully evolved into Serperior however I was expecting this from Ash's Oshawott who was seen more than his other two starters and could have been a Samurott

it always bother me how unappreciated Snivy is. She had so much potential to be Ash's ace (and a female one too, since most of his pokemon are male). Despite being the unevolved, she's still really strong. She was always my favorite Ash's pokemon since I was a kid

I wish we could've seen who Snivy's old trainer was. The writers should've had Snivy evolve all the way into Serperior. She would've even more deadly & more powerful. She could've learned more moves like Leaf Tornado, Dragon Pulse, Brutal Swing & Frenzy Plant

Could have. Instead fans just wanted a Turtwig done "right" (a fast cute unevolved Grass Starter who does not need evolution aka a lazy rehash of Bulbasaur) and had to learn the hard way why the Bulbasaur clone premise is lazy and no longer acceptable.

Do you think we should have seen more of Snivy if Ash took her with him to the Kalos region especially since he didn't catch a grass type Pokemon there? If that happened, We could have seen a flashback of Snivy with her previous trainer even though this would be something Ash would have never learn about

She's my favorite pokemon from Unova! I was very in awe and super shocked and impressed with her amazing instincts in the ghost train episode. It was pretty unbelievable how she knew exactly which pokemon were in each ball she opened! I also love how she's a super helpful problem solver, always saving the day when things go wrong. Favorite Unovan pokemon for sure. I preferred that she never evolved🍃

You know I think ash’s snivy would make a good assistant for bulbasaur! Both her and torterra can help try to keep all the other Pokémon at Professor oaks lab from fighting but unlike bulbasaur some Pokémon would listen to just snivy and some Pokémon would listen to just torterra, but all the Pokémon listen to bulbasaur I think my boy could really use some assistance.

When I think of Ash’s, most notable Unova Pokémon snivy definitely one of the first to come to mind. I love her personality, because she has a sense of honor that showed in her battle with Gothita and rivalry with Emolga. Her story arc started off strong, but basically fell apart after losing her rematch with servine. I wish she had a evolved servine, had an intense battle with Serperior to break their tie, and then evolved in her final form afterwards like Incineroar did. Snivy’s lackluster execution is one of many ways that the writers of black and white made it my least favorite season

Ah, Snivy. The female Equivalent of Ash’s Sceptile. If only she fully evolved... She would make a great Queen of the Jungle. My favorite Pokemon from Ash's Unova team. I loved her personality and relationship with her partners. Great Pokémon, who truly deserved to evolve.

One thing I hated about Snivy vs Frillish is that Cursed Body works on all moves and not just physical ones, but everyone got on Ash about it. Also, I think Snivy has Overgrow because of her boosted Leaf Blade against Lucario.

Honestly I think both Snivy and Pignite should have both evolved into their final evolutions and they should have played a lot more into Snivy and Pignite’s sibling dynamic a lot more. How Unfezant was allowed to become its final evolution while Snivy and Pignite is something that baffles me to this day.

First of all, I’m so glad you did Snivy ❤ she was one of my favorites Ash’s Pokémon’s , and I couldn’t agree more, we were robbed with a snivy !! She should’ve have evolved because every time she appeared she stole the scene / episode . I really love her sassy nature and wasn’t jealous as chikorita. I was really happy with her cameo on the last season 😊 because we get to see her in action one last time. She’ll always be one of my favorites ❤

Snivy was often praised by many fans as "Turtwig done right" - a fast cute unevolved Grass Starter who does not need evolution, which is complete BS because anyone could point out that she was a lazy copy of Bulbasaur just like Torterra was as a Turtwig. Also, like you said, Professor, the writers did a shortsighted job of handling Snivy (no gym battle focus, no league battle win, no change in moveset, not fleshing out her backstory enough and not making her into a powerful Serperior). Other thing I should point out that having Ash all three Unova starters was a terrible decision since the writers just repeated the same mistake as Johto (give Ash all three starters and not fully evolve any one of them).

I think after Piplup’s clear disinterest in evolution, they started to be more subtle about it. I think Snivy’s knowledge of Leaf Storm was meant to be a hint that she wasn’t interested in evolving without outright saying it. Still, I think the fact that they never talked about her abandonment story is disappointing. I feel like there’s a lot that happened to her off screen, and that’s a shame that we didn’t get to see it.

I absolutely adore snivy, because of the anime snivy was my fav starter for a long time. Tbh a lot if ash his unova pokemon should have evolved. I get keeping oshawott as oshawot for comic relief and keeping scraggy to show that hes still really young but snivy should have definitely evolved at least once. Same for boldore, pignite and palpitoad

I enjoyed Snivy, but she really was slapped around too much and some of her battles had her up against Pokémon that were really powerful and the odds were stacked against her too often. They also failed to go back and cover certain parts of her personality and past to have her develop more.

Ya know, I genuinely wonder if the writers were scared to give Ash a female ace. Like, all of his aces have been male or heavily were implied to be male. The only two female Pokémon he owned coming close to being his aces were Snivy (as we see with this awesome video) and Dragonite. I say close in Dragonite's case because before Riolu/Lucario came along she was the main powerhouse and ace of the team! Her win/lose ratio was fairly solid with more wins in a row but as soon as Ash's other mons came along (all male except goof ball Dracovish) she started losing more and more with her "battle" against Cynthia being one of her biggest upsets to date. It's just so strange how the few times Ash does catch a female Pokémon, she's either used to be the cute one (Bayleaf comes to mind), The regional gender difference shower (Unfezant) or the Badass to back up (Dragonite/Snivy). Like female Pokémon can't be anything too cool in Ash's line up as females are supposed to be the generic anime cuties with maybe a sassy or timid personality here or there. I could be completely off but it's something I noticed over the years from watching the show. Maybe that could be an interesting topic you could discuss in a video one day. 🤔

I think it's because of Torterra. Fans were upset that Torterra performed worse in battle despite fully evolving and felt that Turtwig should have not evolved as to maintain his speed strategy and claim that he does not need evolution to become strong, while completely ignoring the fact that Torterra's origins and battlestyle as a Turtwig was the same as Bulbasaur. Ironically, Snivy became exactly what people thought Turtwig was supposed to be and fans were initially happy with the handling. Come Unova League and her zero development comes back to bite the fandom and writers hard causing them to tearfully reflect why replicating Ash's Bulbasaur is wrong and Snivy "not needing evolution to maintain her speed strategy" was a shortsighted idea, all along.

@@saitproject I can see that, it makes even less sense they didn't evolve her since Serperior is pretty fast! She could have absolutely pulled of a speedy stealth strategy, using Leaf Storm to cover the battle field and get going in a flurry of leaves. Torterra's failure stemmed from Ash's lack of knowing how to work with a slow and bulky Pokemon, plus him hardly trying to work with that even after Paul showed him how to work with a bigger less speedy Pokemon. I honestly chalk Torterra's losses to Ash failing him and not really knowing what to do with him.

I still wished that Ash's Snivy evolved into Servine and finally Serperior back in Pokemon Black and White series because Serperior is one of my favourite Unova Starter pokemon and a fully evolved snake type Pokemon like Serperior would suit Ash's team just like Incineroar. I also wished that the Japanese writers had do more on Ash's Snivy's backstory like why she left her previous trainer in the first place since he/she never made a proper appearence in Pokemon Black and White Series like Pignite's old trainer. I mean if they had made an episode in the third final series were Ash and his friends met Snivy's previous trainer at last while learn about Snivy's past then I would like to see Snivy having a score to settle with her previous trainer in a Pokemon battle and even better evolved into Servine just like Pignite so Ash would have two middle evolved Unova Starter Pokemon.

Not every single Pokemon needs to be evolved considering there are multiple ways to get stronger but its such an shame that Ash’s Snivy was underdeveloped, never completed its rivalry with Trip’s Serperior and got overshadowed by Ash’s other Pokemon from Unova. Not to mention the lack of doing more with Ash’s Snivy’s backstory left me feeling bummed out, I do like her but it’s unfortunate!!! 😞

@@madnessarcade7447 Pokemon cannot have traits or battle styles that make them blatant clones of predecessors otherwise it shows laziness. Snivy, in this case, is a lazy version of Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur, at least changed his movesets despite not evolving and while Torterra's development was poorly executed, he had to evolve because his origins and battlestyle was too similar to Bulbasaur.

It's too bad Snivy never got to evolve to her final stage. I had really high hopes when journeys was announced that Ash would travel through all the regions for a duration of episodes and would use mons of all of his existing roster from the specific regions they were in at the time but instead they gave him a completely new team. They also missed out on the oppertunity to have all his old rivals he battled in the prior leagues and lost to, to show up again in the respective regions and ranking advance battles. The only one showing up is Paul.

Oh I remember her, she was one of Ash's toughest pokemon from how she was sassy and pretty strong. And it was crazy of how she abandoned her original trainer since she thought they weren't worthy enough to master their ablities. They do say when the trainer is inexperienced the pokemon won't obey them. I've heard of trainers abandoning their pokemon cause they see them as not strong but that was ridiculous. I don't remember much about all of her battles but I do remember about how she defeated Trip's Serperior back when it was a servine with attract and vine whip and fell to Trip's Frillish after facing the effects of cursed body. Oh and Georgia's Pawniard she defeated as well and she also lost to Elesa's Emolga. I still find it hilarious of how Ash ran back to the pokemon center to get Snivy, like that was so unprepared and of how Ash had her use attract on emolga even though they were the same gender. The attacks she used was vine whip, leaf blade, leaf storm and attract. She may not have evolved nor the strongest grass type but she had potential and was like the big sister of the gang setting her friends straight. I was surprised that she knew leaf strom cause snivy doesn't usually learn that move till its final evolutionary line but theres an everstone that keeps them the way they are after all like with the rare Riolu that can use Aura Sphere.

I liked Snivy Think could've had a reverse Paul rival with it's old trainer wanting to prove themselves against Ash and Snivy who it was more loyal too Maybe it was Cheren's Snivy who retired to become a gym leader since his starter left him

I also remember of how Ash used Snivy in battle again against Team Rocket in the 13 episode series Aim to be a pokemon master. It was amazing cause he hadn't used Snivy in battle in years. I'd say it was a good comeback.

Snivy was yet another Pokemon who was wasted in the series. The biggest issue I have with Snivy was the fact that she abandoned her original trainer, but we never see who her trainer was. In fact, I think the series just outright forgets this part of Snivy's story as the series progresses. Even more so is the wasted opportunity to see Snivy at a point on whether she wants to evolve or not. And of course, Ash acting all braindead in the BW series really didn't help her potential in the series.

It would of been nice to see Tepig support her the same way she was there for him when the same subject came up. Plus she never learned a new attack ether.

@@dsguy2none851 But that would've required competent writers, which was something that the BW series didn't have. Instead, they wanted to make the BW series a soft reboot and make Ash arguably at his dumbest. And not only that, but BW had countless amount of plot points that are either forgotten or rushed. Like Zekrom for example. Why did he show up to strip Pikachu of his power, only to return the next episode and give it back? The same thing applies to Snivy? Why did they hint that she abandoned her original owner, only to not do anything with that concept? Why did they make Cilan useless as the series progressed? And so many other questions involvimg wasted, rushed, and unresolved plots.

was disappointed that Snivy never evolved, it was so powerful, really wish Snivy used Attract on Cameron's Lucario, even if it didn't work as they were both female, it would have made Ash's defeat more believable as Attract could have given Ash an advantage

@@madnessarcade7447 You also have to take into account that the Pokemon cannot be a blatant copy of a popular predecessor otherwise it shows laziness. Snivy, in this case, is a lazy rehash of Bulbasaur minus the change in moveset and development. Turtwig used to fall into that, but differentiated himself by evolving all the way into Torterra, even if the execution did not work properly.

I think Ash’s Snivy was cool and Strong and I wish She had evolved as she would’ve be the redemption for the writers after they messed Torterra up with its Evolution of Snivy became a Serperior she could’ve another strong fully evolved Grass starter for Ash like Secptile was and I think Some of Snivy’s Battles could’ve gone better if BW kept Ash as the strong Component Trainer he was after Sinnoh like Ash was like he was in DP he could’ve had Snivy counter Attract with a Countershield and now either Ash’s Torterra or Rowlett next.

Ain't gonna lie but snivy is something of a wasted potentional for me. It's my favorite grass type and I love her personality in anime. But I feel like she was supposed to be something of Ash's ace pokemon in Unova. It would atleast make something for the rivalry between Ash and Trip. Imagine the fight between Ash's Serperior and Trip's Serperior

Snivy followed the same path as Bulbasaur. Didn't think she needed to evolve because she was strong enough as is perhaps. Although It always bugged me that more of Ash's team didn't evolve.

Snivy was often praised by many fans as "Turtwig done right" - a fast cute unevolved Grass Starter who does not need evolution. In other words, she's a blatant copy of Bulbasaur like Torterra was as a Turtwig. And you wonder why Bulbasaur clones were banned after BW and why Snivy having zero character development proved how lazy her handling was in the show.

Agree largely with the ending comments - even though the premise was that she was already strong, I was always disappointed Snivy didn't get much further growth -- not even necessarily that she needed to evolve, but having already started with a high-level moveset she didn't get to learn any new moves, she didn't develop any iconic strategies besides "using Attract" (which didn't even show up in the league battle against Cameron?) (she got to use Leaf Blade as a shield against the wild Simisear and Vine Whip for dodging against Tornadus, but we didn't get to see these develop or get used further?), and she suffered a lot of losses against impossibly-strong opponents like Lucario or the wild Gothitelle without getting a chance to rebound or redeem herself (borderline Torterra treatment) (in contrast, we got to see Tepig evolve, overcome his past, learn new moves, and overcome challenges against opponents that were tough but reasonable, like Lenora's Herdier, Brycen's Cryogonal, or Roxie's Scolipede; and Oshawott used Razor Shell in interesting ways and got training arcs like when he lost to Lenora's Watchog or Stephan's Blitzle, although the results of this training later on seemed to vary with whether or not it would be funny for him to lose on any given day haha)

Gotta say I think snivy gets too much flack for taking too many L's. For what it's worth most of its battles were pretty stacked against it. A lucario that snivy actually almodt beat, both emboar and heatmor, trips servine,etc.

Out of all of Ash’s Unova Pokemon, she was my favourite for her sassy attitude and love for her team. Always loved whenever she would act aloof, but when her friends were in danger, she was the first to jump in and save them. I’m with you and say that she should have evolved. BW didn’t like evolving any of Ash’s Pokemon, but Servine at least would have been a great choice.

Snivy’s personal of Beauty, Bonding, and Batting made her a strong and caring grass type among Ash’s other grass type reserves. If Ash and Trip had another battle I would hoped that she would redeem herself to battle Serperior like she did when he was a Servine.

Snivy is probably the only mon in Ash’s BW team where I think he shouldn’t have caught it, since he later caught a Leavanny, most of his team were kind of split development wise and made the rotation pointless

Snivy was one of Ash’s coolest pokémon but had one of the biggest wasted potential. She should’ve had dedicated episodes to her origins & personality. For example, one episode would be after a battle with Trip & his Servine, where we explored how her trainer was trying to push her to evolve, explaining why she didn’t want to learn new moves & stay as a Snivy. In another episode, we could’ve gotten to see her trainer be good friends with Trip & initially be against Ash, however after seeing how different the two rivals were she would apologize for her short-sightedness. This would also be a learning experience for Trip, showing that a Pokémon’s loyalty is linked to their friendship. After this, we could see Snivy learning new moves & be used more.

It was probably for the best Snivy didn’t end up with Iris as her sassy diva personality probably would’ve driven Iris and emolga crazy. Though I would say on why Snivy didn’t evolve was from how there were “one too many chefs in the kitchen”, in which given Ash had a much larger team for Unova so Snivy had to let little brother tepig take the spot of evolving into his second stage.
