Welcome back everyone to Part 7 of Project Iona. Its getting hotter in Central Florida these days so having ice cold air conditioning is a must! Come along as we replace the blower motor, blower motor resistor, hamster wheel and pollen filter under the hood of Project Iona, my 1997 W140 S500.

Glad I watched this as I just looked at my service notes for my W140 and realized I haven't changed my filter in almost 5 years! Heading back to FCP's site now. In FL having good airflow is one part of keeping cool. When I did the evaporator years ago, I had them pull the charcoal filter as it doesn't help with air movement on these.

Great point about keeping a robust document history on your vehicles. What parts, part numbers, and when installed or replaced can be invaluable when looking back at an overall picture. Same with fluid changes and flushes. Thanks for watching the channel and reminding me I need to start a history on Project Heidi.

That corroded connector goes to a "smog sensor" in the air box, it senses for" bad air" and turns the charcoal light on when it does, that sensor (if you can still get it) is around $300+or more, you probably won't ever notice any difference with it being unplugged, try a auto salvage yard but chances are most of the wires have deteriorated like yours ....and my e class 210 has this as well same corroded wire issue....left it unplugged, and yes it makes a fault code, but there's no impairment of the HVAC

I did a ton of research after reading your comment and looked high and low for parts and part numbers for the "mystery connector" as it were. B10/5 Outside Temperature Sensor part 1408300472 is relatively hidden inside of the cabin pollen filter housing. YT doesn't allow attached pics or I would share the schematics. There are two temperature sensors on the W140. One on the lower bumper cover which send signal to the dash pod for showing the outside ambient air temps. The part listed above sends signal to the air conditioning and climate control system in able to control cabin temperatures. Thanks again for watching the channel and for posting your comment.

My A/C quit working as well. I thought it was my control panel because only my residual heat function worked. Swapped out for a new(er) one from eBay and nothing. Swapped out the blower motor relay and nothing. Goes into the shop next week for diagnoses 😢

There are several key on and button functions to diagnose your A/C system and some you can find on YT. If your EC button is red and you cannot click it off your refrigerant is low. Been thinking about your issue for a while and while I can’t diagnose from your comment, your heater control valves for the dual climate zones may be stuck wide open or closed, depending. They are magnetically controlled, under the driver side vanity cover in the engine bay, and are prone to clogging over time. Thanks so much for watching. Hope you like the channel and let me know what was wrong with your W140.

nice job except for pinching the wires at the re-assembly. that wire connector seems to get hot for some reason.. consider isolating the bare wires in a blob of heat resistant glue

Thanks for watching the channel. Hopefully the series gives you some pointers for getting yours back up and running. The A/C systems in these cars are extremely complex. Sorry I can’t give you advice on your particular W140 but as a general rule you want to start with fuses, relays, connectors, and grounds and diagnose as much as possible before replacing pieces and parts. Best of luck with yours and thanks for watching.
