I've always wanted to do this, and finally pulled the trigger. Starting the journey to convert my GTI VR6 Turbo to all wheel drive using a MK4 R32 shell and complete drivetrain that I picked up from One Love Auto Group. Hit them up for all of your niche VAG part needs; you won't be disappointed. They always have something tempting up on their site and are great people who want to keep the scene alive and see cool stuff being built.

Chris Deiter not yet, that was going to be a project this winter to get them refurbed and on the car, but now they’re going to go on after the conversion is done since it’ll be a nice cherry on top. 🤘

@@danny_vrsociety yea that will be an added handing bonus on top of the AWD conversion. Shoot what is the condition of the steering rack? R32's have a quicker ratio rack as well right?

Yeah the R32 rack is a bit quicker but unfortunately it didn't come with the shell :(

Yup you are going to need the entire rear floor clip inner fenders and shock towers for it to work. Start drilling out all the spot welds!

I have a similar project in planning. Do you feel the AWD was worth the effort? I'm wanting to awd swap a nb.

Been on pause for a while. It’s worth it but definitely not simple by any means. I may be going in another direction though - my donor was not as clean as I needed it to be

Hi! I have a question, am planning on doing an AWD mk4, now I have been seeing a lot of mk4 that were converted to AWD and they cut the rear floor of the car and swapped to a tt or r32 floor! Now the question is why do I have to swap the floors again?! Isn’t there a better option to do the AWD conversion?!

The floors have to be swapped for a few reasons. Most critical being: suspension mounting, rear subframe & diff mounting, and finally, gas tank mounting. The rear floor is used for all of these things. There are other odds and ends that are also unique to the AWD chassis cars, but those 3 are the main reasons why. You couldn’t get any of the running gear to fit or even mount on a FWD chassis without substantial fabrication otherwise. DannyLo there’s plenty of cd009 adapters out there if you catch my drift haha. rwd vrt stuff is great! Or a mk1/mk2 could be cool. Personally though money no object I’d have one in a b5 s4

Does the r32 engine fit in a gti I can’t get exact size specs for exterior of the engine I would think it would however Just wanna be sure

austin kramer yeap! Physically on the outside, and dimensionally the 2.8 24v and the 3.2 are essentially identical. Wherever a 2.8 fits, so does the 3.2. They even share the same engine/transmission mounts, as well as transmission bolt patterns.
