It’s generally dehumanizing. Most people don’t even refer to animals as it in western culture at this point.

@@franxyt6424 Minor grammatical mistake 😱 My life is ruined ! Lmao. I grew up in France, born here obviously, so I speak french, english, arabic (since moroccan) and currently am learning chinese. I'm SO astronomically sorry for this little mistake that mustve gave you an intense and traumatic panic attack. And it doesn't make my question any less relevant btw (:

'They' is not a person, it is a group of people... And for your information, 'it' is not just an object, it's also a child/kid, so it's easier to extend the use of this pronoun instead of using a plural one, and make things hard to understand.​ @@stephaneboisjoli1320

Did you know? It is a feature of literary style in Arabic that a person may refer to himself by the pronoun nahnu, ‘We’, for respect or glorification.

@@user-tr9le5lt7zWell let me put it into context for you. They’re talking about the English language, and words used to adapt to certain situations. What they failed to mention is that while “they/them” are gender neutral They have a plurality to them. This doesn’t apply to people with split personality disorder. What we need to do as a society is stop conforming to nonsense and get these people the psychiatric help they need.

God, this is a stretch, going back centuries to justify their madness. If language hasn’t evolved so we use “they” naturally to talk about one person, it’s never going to, so forget it, Onslow.

Sorry in school I was taught they/them are plural pronouns. Until someone can explain a legitimate reason for a single entity to be called a plural pronoun.I choose to use the persons proper name and no pronouns to describe them. Maybe try inventing a new one.

There are only 2 pronouns : He and She. It is a pronoun used for dogs, cats and other animals and also non living objects.

Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, end of 14c used all pronouns described here. Problem was however, it created a "them", therefore creating an "us", hence it went out of fashion and use. Politically it plays into the hands of dividing folk.

It is grammatically incorrect, and pronouns have a purpose and a specific function in a sentence. If you’re identifying as two separate people they have a name for that as well. It’s called split personality disorder.

Honestly, you should probably watch the video you're commenting on. Grammar changes and evolves over time, and those pronouns have been in use for hundreds of years.

here's how it was explained to me that made sense: "they" is fitting for a "he-she" because there's 2 pronouns in use.

They, a word which here means to refer to people in a general way or to a group of people who are not specified. Them, a word which here is a word used as object of a verb or preposition.

There are additional definitions that correspond to the video's use of the terms, but you seem to have omitted those. They have also been used for hundreds of years. Check the Oxford English Dictionary, or others.
