Wondering what the pros and cons of being stationed in Hawaii are? Well in this video we will discuss what military living in Hawaii looks like and all the pros and cons of pcsing to Hawaii. Being stationed in Hawaii may sound great, and it is, but there are some small caveats of things to know before moving to Hawaii. We will discuss military housing in Oahu and other options you have as well as the perks that some of the Hawaii military bases offer for the Oahu military community.
Oahu has a dense amount of bases per square mile and we basically have every branch of the military out here from fort Shafter, Hickam air force base, wheeler army airfield, Schofield barracks, Kaneohe marine base, and few others.

I was stationed at Schofield in the late 90's and I loved it. Great video. Got winter at PTA. 25 degrees

Served on board USS BREWTON FF-1086, 1980-1982. It was very expensive but a very memorable experience. I am glad I had the privilege of serving there. The Navy was very accommodating. They moved my family out and we resided in military housing which at that time was great. I can only imagine how much it has changed.

When I was in Hawaii I was friends with a guy who had the only jet ski rental on North Shore his name was Chris he was a English guy his spot was at the first turn as you drove into Haleiwa across the road from the first gas station most of my friends where a mix of civilians and NCO'S and a few officers this was my second duty station I was originally out of Kentucky Fort Knox and that's why I now live in Southern Indiana.

Hey girl - this was helpful. My partner just got stationed at Wheeler and we are trying to pick a good location to live and are interested in Kailua and Kaneohe, but are weary of traffic... any thoughts on that?

Traffic isn't too bad you would just take LIKE LIKE HWY or H3 from windward side. 35-45 mins ...HOUR max but traffic should be going in the opposite direction from Kapolei to TOWN.

Girl I went to grade school with married a guy who ended up being stationed there and she hated it .... especially the parking, the traffic, and the huge bugs

There is a Space-A car shipping for 2nd car. Only problem is you won’t know when you will get your car. I got mine in 3 months.

I'm currently stationed here, and the cola is only 600$ a month. And the BAH is only 1400$ more than south Texas, which is an absolute joke! Our standard of living is much higher in Texas. In Hawaii we are barely above the poverty line. Not to mention the locals hate us. Screw Oahu, we are ready to go back to our 12 acres in Texas which is absolute paradise!

I'm about to be stationed there in a couple of weeks. I was told a couple of big problems is the huge roaches and the currently contaminated water. I'm told it's possible we might get some extra pay to compensate having to deal with the water but of course not much you can do about roaches

Not sure about the extra compensation when it comes to the red hill water contamination. When it comes to roaches that just a part of life out in the tropics :)

My Sister was going to be stationed in Hawaii which was the only place I liked that she was going to till she came to Japan years later and now I’m glad she didn’t go to Hawaii.

@@PatrickLongleyOahuRealEstate I always wanted to go to Hawaii ever since I was a Kid because of Lilo and Stitch but last year I found out Hawaii wasn’t what it was cracked up to be with the high price of living being the most expensive State in America. I found out Hawaii hates Tourists most likely because they still hate us because of what happened a long time ago involving the sugar business and banning the Hawaii language making Hawaii a U.S State.

Do military members often buy in Hawaii specifically to eventually rent out to other military members? I just can’t get past the average $1 million house price i don’t know how I’d ever pay that off lmao but i do want to invest in real estate with my Va loan

Military members generally buy in hawaii when they are stationed here because it’s a small Window and opportunity where they can buy a home in hawaii with 0% down payment on one of the Highest appreciating states in the USA. Average service member is here for 3 years so once they leave that window is closed. Yes, indeed the median sales price for a single family home is a million but u can find condos and town homes for much cheaper. You did not mention the major con is Taxes. Property Taxes every year and state income taxes deductions. Oh yeah more than living in Florida or Texas.

As an OS Hawaii will be a choice but to get it you must choose Hawaii DDG and California , they are both West Coast orders so the detailer will look for availability in Hawaii first

Lmao a big jump in BAH.. its not much higher than average but yet is the most expensive cost of living state by a wide margin, meanwhile California and some eastern states get over double our rate it's bs
