I started working on a WOOFF farm a few years ago and stayed for a full year, became the manager and loved the experience right up till the end. Your video definitely touched on a few key points that I want to elaborate on and a few additional recommendations based on my experience and that also, of the many other WOOfers I grew to know and love. 1 back up plan for sure, 2 extra cash stash, 3 highly recommend find a friend and don't travel alone, 4 set clear boundaries for your personal space and communicate responsibly, 5 show up early and be accountable to your host. 6 Always go where singing is encouraged. 7 totally agree with Holli, ask alot of questions upfront. Where you sleep, food provided, shower, toilet, animals there, pets allowed or not, hours of work required, type of work, instruction on work, tools provided to work. Additionally bring your own work gloves and like 10 bandannas, hiking/work boots, Chaco sandals. Have fun, be kind, be safe.

At WWOOF we try and make sure there's an educational element to any exchange, because we're all about supporting organic / agro-ecological hosts whilst helping the next generation (whatever age) of land workers and Earth carers to see first-hand what makes a healthy planet. And hopefully everyone gets to have some fun along the way :)

I WISH I could do all that, but I have a fulltime job and a house that I need to pay rent for every month. And so if I want to go wwoofing , who's gonna pay the rent? (I'm not able to rent out my house to someone, it's illegal cuz it's a rental house), I would loose my job so if I come back home what am I gonna do? I wonder how other people manage to go away for a year or so and how do they do that?! I feel so stuck😭

I never used WWOOF but omg I ADORED my workaway experiences! I was backpacking through Scandinavia with the help of workaway and up to now, I have only made incredibly great experiences! I nearly didnt need any money and because you dont have to work as much as with other organisations, I still had more than enough time to explore the countries. But the nicest thing is that you autimatically meet locals that can show you around and teach you about their culture. I made friends all over Scandinavia

Omg I'm also 26! The quarter life crisis hit me hard last year, but now I'm over it. I'm pretty laid back and don't compare myself to others, but last year I guess I got upset about not having any of the things you've "supposed" to have at age 25: a house, a job, a boyfriend. Now I'm just chilling, doing my own thing, and think that timeline is total BS. As long as I stay busy, cherish the people and the things I do have around me, and know what I want to focus on and grow, I'm good. So from now on when my birthday comes around I don't really care who is there to celebrate it with me, I just ask for a mix drink or a cocktail and I'm happy😊

My quarter life crisis got a little bit later. Now 29 same boat. But I also do think that all this social stuff is just garbage. Everyone has their own karma they are dealing with and people try to put all these layers of comfort which are jobs, kids, loans etc. And at the end they suffer from their own creation and the things they wanted so much. Pretty silly if you ask me. Life itself is insecure, if a next inhale doesn't happen, that's it, we are gone. But still we people especially in the West like to be in a comfort zone

You have done a very good reflections exercise ! I wish I had came to your conclusions about life when I was your age. Would have save me lots and lots of time. Possessions, expectations and commitments are sometime the equivalent of jails and slavery...Their not necessarily bad... just here that they have to be plans thoroughly before going ahead with them. Keep up on the path you trace for yourself... and lastly, little peace of advise, keep your steering wheel for yourself.

Thank you for this video! I too have been outside the norm my entire life..I have def. done it my way. I was in a bad Harley accident 5 years ago and have dealt with losing my brick and mortar business and being homeless. I am new to the workaway idea...but I'm planning on buying land and become a host. I agree with the control of your life. I gauge success by the amount of freedom and control I have of my own life.

I just love this channel, you've got a really shiny, optimistic flair. Do you know anything about WWOOFing/Workaway in Europe or South America? Have you ever considered going yourself, and, if not, why? I'm planning on WWOOFing, although, with the virus the way it is, I'm wondering about the wisdom in that. My main reason for going is learning a different language- I'm torn between going to South America, to learn Spanish, and going to Europe, where I'd likely end up in Poland or, even Czech Republic. I've had tons of fulfilling times in the military (even though it wasn't my scene), finance industry, living with the same groovy gang of friends, being a good ole basic Barista at Starbucks, even hard electrician work. I really love it here, especially this little-big city of Pensacola. A major reason I'm doing this is because I want out of America for a while; I'm ready to wisely wander on a bigger scale. It feels like America is harsh on anyone who doesn't have college or who doesn't work at a bank or office. I'm a 28 year old guy, and it just feels like there's nothing for me here, and that, at the end of the day, I'm not really valued as a worker or member of society. I figure having a language and (even more) practical skills could help me, and maybe pave the way for becoming a US diplomat. And I won't lie, I'm lowkey jaded over dating in the American South.

I have a situation in that I am planning to move to Hawaii later this spring. I'm considering reaching out to WWOOF hosts. I am also a relocation astrologer in the early stages of developing a practice. It seems like working 25h/week (with the utmost commitment during these 25 hours) might enable me to develop my practice further. I'll be frank in that Hawaii in many respects should be a more favorable location than where I live now, especially as pertains to my work ethic and improvement of attitude. I am used to living in an arid climate (Denver rarely gets dewpoints above 50). How do you deal with the humidity? I was even looking at Kona on the west side of the Big Island, which is supposed to get only 15 in of rain a year, and it seems that dewpoints there are commonly in the upper 60s. Do the breezes help? I am also autistic (AS). I own a cat. I have a stash of money, though it would have been better had I left for Hawaii a year ago. I am 51, don't look my age, and work out (aerobic -- elliptical right now, I used to jog) regularly. I'm a 'late bloomer'.
@windyventure
@windyventure 3 жыл бұрын
Congrats! I do better in humidity but would recommend living Kona side. The lower you are the hotter and sunnier and drier the weather - but there is a breeze. The higher up in elevation the more humidity. The breeze is a game changer though but most people break out in acne during the transition period, I wish you all the best!

@@windyventure I wasn't necessarily going to pick the Big Island per se, but am curious as I know that driving Saddle Road across the center of the island brings you to an elevation of ~7000 feet. Are there opportunities there? It would be nice to remain acclimated at the high altitudes I'm used to.

Me and my woman want to move to Hawaii, we are getting evicted. My farm was completely savatoged and my landlord is forcing me to get rid of my chicken farm and bee Apiary. I have exactly 7 days to rehome all of my livestock. If you could help me find an opportunity in Hawaii whatever it may be, I would greatly appreciate it!
