Protecting Ancient Shellmounds

Ever been to the IKEA in Emeryville? Did you know it used to be the site of the largest shellmound in the San Francisco Bay area? Ohlone people lived in a village surrounding the site for more than 2,000 years. The shellmound was a ceremonial site and burial ground. Now it’s a mall.
Corrina Gould, leader of the Confederated Villages of Lisjan, leads a remembrance at the site every year on the day after Thanksgiving, now called Black Friday, to pray and remind shoppers of the history of the site and its meaning to living Ohlone culture.

If they think they can put a building on sacred land they got another thing coming

..interesting..i worked in this area for 30 years..point is a lot of this land is "fill"... that is dirt and debris were dumped here decades back..the site they are talking about is just that..so, they would be in water and mud at that time..???....up to the 60's bay fill was an issue the dumps and others just dumped things in the bay..were I worked on 3rd they excavated for a new building and found old artillary shells... yikes.. just used it to discard their junk
