When you breathe in what happens to your ribs?
Your ribs have two main jobs: They protect the organs in your chest. They help you breathe by keeping space open inside your chest while the muscles you use to breathe squeeze in, or contract. This leaves plenty of space for your lungs to fill up with air.
Unfortunately technology (smartphone & computers) are causing poor posture, forward head translation, and hunchback in millions of people worldwide. This directly will affect your vital lung capacity, limiting the amount of oxygen.
In this video you will learn specific stretches and strategies to combat these problems. I hope you find this helpful! Dr M

I took a gunshot wound to the chest twelve years ago, it fractured my ribs and pierced my lungs and I haven't been the same since. I have so much trouble breathing till this day and it's been 12 years. Breathing exercises help a little but I still have trouble breathing. Thank you so much doctor for your videos. Hi do you have oxygen at home? Uncle Si from Duck dynasty had trouble breathing he had some sort of apparatus put in him for his lungs to help him breathe better it’s on Unashamed podcast. I wish you well

So sorry to hear about your experience. This is just a suggestion to look into "Myofascial Release," its gentle stretching techniques of the fascia tissue (connective tissue). It's especially good for individuals who have suffered a horrific trauma as you have gone through. John Barnes Myofascial is the best. Wishing you a healthier future.❤

​@@ginomazzei1076 Try not to be so quick to judge... I know others who thankfully refused the FauCheeOwChee & still got some leftover lung issues. So, it can still happen, but these people eat/ate a poor diet or weren't "healthiest" before it started.

Thank You!!!!Very helpful ❣️ These are easy exercises that I can do in the morning on my terass, greeting the new day😊 Five years ago I had a very stressful period in my life; for about 2-3 years I could only ”top breathe” ie too stressed out to breathe properly. This caused some damage to my health with severe coughing (stress induced asthma). Not being able to breathe became an inhibition to all physical movements with weight gain as another unwanted result. Sitting in silence (silent adoration) in church (for two or three hours at the time) gave me relief when I was able to do it sometimes. Maybe with this simple routine of stretch exercises my rehab will speed up😉

The best Doctor in the world in my opinion! I've been doing this stretch for 4 years and it's cool seeing a doctor's recommend it. It's a great stretch. I do another version, arms moving up from front to back while stretching hip flexor. Step forward locked together arms up.

This morning I and friends rode 12 miles on the mountain bikes in hilly country, elevation 7000 ft. I was feeling the limitations of my recent diagnosis of Bronchiectasis. Then I came home and watched this video. I did these exercises, following along with you while watching the video, I didn't imagine how powerful they could be. It's a half-hour later, and my lungs feel fantastic. My oxygen level has increased, and along with it my mental clarity and energy. I'm clearing mucus from my bronchioles, breathing deeper and easier, and feel I could go do the ride all over again. Thank you Doctor Mandell. These exercises are going to help me so much!

I’m slowly realizing my body struggles and self medicating, I could’ve been a dr or at least a physical therapist. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I have D.I.S.H. as well as severed right phrenic nerve from a tumor removal which has tremendously decreased my lung capacity over the years as the diaphragm has stopped working properly. I’ve been doing these back stretches for the last two years several times a day because they are the only thing that helps bring relief to my pain from my spine fusions and the nerve flares from all the spinal cord damage I’ve suffered recently. These as well as any kind of leg stretch I can throw in every time I get up, or I’m not able to walk very far without stumbling and nearly falling. I can still ride my bike though!! Sometimes it takes me around mile 5-10 before my lungs fully open up and I’m able to finally breath properly, relax, slow my heart rate, and enjoy the rest of the miles. It’s frustrating. I’ll start adding those intercostal stretches in as well because I’m constantly pulling and even sometimes straining them when I’m having a really bad stiffness day(s) Thanks for your awesome videos. I’m on my path to a better quality of life through each new video! 🤟🏼

Wow! I intuitively have been doing these two stretches daily for years! I have a slight variation for the arm/side stretch: while I’m raising my right arm, I push my right leg down and press my foot firmly onto the floor. This has helped my hip flexors tremendously!!!!!

Wow!! Love this stretch!! I have been having lot lower back pain last few years. Age 57 and use to teached aerboics instructors over 20 years. I hope this help my low back pain as well! Thank for this excellents tips!! God Bless You!

I'm Grateful that I watched your two (2) breathing exercise videos just before my workout that I do in my bedroom. Usually when I workout, I get winded and have to stop OFTEN to catch my breath. But this time, I did both of your breathing exercises BEFORE MY WORKOUT. I was able to workout for 25 minutes without stopping!!! Your breathing exercises made a BIG DIFFERENCE in how I was breathing during my workout. I will continue your breathing exercises daily, even on weekends when I don't workout. Thx Dr. Mandell. 💙

....It’s a different angle , but i used to hang from the door frame with my fingers to stretch my shoulders ,,,,under a lot of shoulder strain with my job....guess it helped my lungs also.

Excellent exercises. Dumb bell flies and biceps curls will also make your lung imput feel much better. People with asthma naturally bend forward like that to make breathing easier. Our teacher used to tell us to stand up to breath after running. Leaning forward feels better.

Wow Dr. Mandell! This is an awesome stretch👍. I must admit that I’ve never thought about stretching like the sink grip stretch. I never get that deep stretch when I just stretch at the counter. I’ve been a stretcher my whole life., thanks to Jack LaLaine that my Mom exercised to when I was very young.
