I was climbed down tall thin birch trees (former nurse trees) in this small area.
The last tree leaned toward a garden, fence and housing, but it was manageable if it was cut down from the top.
On my way up In the skinny tree, I meet this V-shaped crotch! The connection and structural strength of the branch seemed much stronger than the actual top. The shape of the branch looked like a former outmatched top.
It didn't seem right at all. So I decided to install a rigging rope and pull the back leaning tree in the opposite direction (using Fiddle Blocks) and then fell it the conventionel way.

And a million thanks to you! I had become tired of movies where a lot of wood came down without necessarily made one wiser. Now I try to put myself in the situation I was in when I started ....in an attempt to provide answers to some of the questions we had. There are a lot of procedures that can be explained and then it again makes sense to make movies. Sincerely thank for your response, Michael!

Soren Satellit...A wise old man once told me the following that I myself shape my ljfe around - "Life only makes sense when you are doing things you truely enjoy, sometimes we have to be patient because there is a right time for every seed to sprout again." :) I will wait patiently with joy for your next video to come....when the time is right ;)

Soren, I'm kind of curious what your thoughts are on using a standard 4 to 1 pull kit with two prusiks one to lock off the pulled rope and the other to readjust the pulley? Anyway, excellent videos I really appreciate you taking the time to make them.

Hi Zachary! There are many good ways to do it ... I have often used the method myself if I unexpectedly needed more pulling power!

Great video, always willing to learn new things. Would this method be any different from using something like a decent tirfor winch. Thanks
@SorenSatellit
@SorenSatellit 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Robert! Yes ... it's just much heavier equipment to carry around. I also use a tirfor when the tree gets too heavy!

I wish I had an instructor like you :( I'm trying to learn all this. I like how you explain, too bad I'm not familiar with all this equipment, I just use two ropes one small to tide my self to the tree and the other one to pull my chain saw up.

Hi Luis! It's very important to get training from an experienced climber. It's dangerous work! You are hanging in a rope at dangerous height, while you are releasing heavy/long disparate wooden objects with the world's most dangerous hand tool. Start by reading this book: "The Tree Climber's Companion" by Jeff Jepson (ISBN 0-615-11290-0) (www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?item=2). And one way or another ....please! ....go out and assist an experienced climber and receive all the learning you can get. This way you will become a great (safe) climber!

A lot of work can go into a short video! I don't know how guys like August Hunike do it! I through together a bunch of shott clips to make a tree drops video and it took hours and hours and hours of editing... the wife was getting upset I was spending so much time editing. And then a guy like August puts out way better videos and he does it like weekly or biweekly... while at the same time running a tree business.. and raising a family! Pretty wild

Hi Ryan! Yes, it's a time killer! I'm trying to show different kinds of tasks, so when I already have 5 movies with a common fir take down, then the method or the tree in fir takedown no 6 must be very special before it becomes a movie ...otherwise I feel I repeat myself. Technique instead of show!
@Johnny82ify

That was a great safe and probably expensive way of redirecting a heavy leaner. You would cringe at the way my poor ass would go about that.
@SorenSatellit

Thanks Jonathan! And sorry ...that was the only equipment in the car that day. It was not planned to pull in any trees at all and since fiddleblocks are only intended to tighten ropes (and not to hold falling trees) then this became the solution. The lowering device could as well have been a prusik but it was there. Stay safe!

Jeg tager desværre ikke lærlinge men måske skal du undersøge hvad der er af muligheder på Skovskolen og deres erhvervsuddannelse (EUD) - hvor man også kan specialisere sig som arborist. @SorenSatellit
@SorenSatellit 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, the camera just runs while I do what I get paid for. The shooting is completely secondary and whether there are recordings for a movie, I'll check afterwards. Additionally, I don't have a Danish-English dictionary with me at work ;0) ...and since I don't do this in my usual language, it's good to have some time, trying to get it right! I hope that the composition of my words still makes sense :0) Thanks for watching!
