when two of my dogs were violently fighting and I got injured, I was literally willing to lose my hand or part of my arm to save them from each other. that was my gut response. the only thing I regret, is not looking into how to safely break up a fight when I decided to have a multi-dog household.

Y’all know you can intervene in a fight without injury to yourself? You’d be stupid to risk your own life when there are other options that are safer for you and your dog. The best way is to have the other owner help. You both need to grab the dogs by the hind legs like wheel barrels. And lift them off the ground. It’s the quickest safest method. I’m sure there’s videos here on KZfaq.
@patti6178

@@FukaiKokoro I was alone and had no knowledge of dog fights when my two got into it the first time. Also, if you are lifting a dog off the ground that has a bite hold on another, the flesh the dog has a hold on will tear. There is no guarantee that wheelbarrow will result in the dog letting go. Since the fight with my two dogs, I have done some research and have unfortunately seen many dog fights where wheelbarrow had absolutely zero effect.

Went through something similar with my pit bull when he was about 4 months old. We had taken him to a local pet expo for socializing, freebies, and to support local animal organizations/vendors. We were about half way through and came up to a display and table set up by an organization for service dogs that visited special needs kids/schools/hospitals/etc. My pup rounded the corner of the table and there was an adult Golden Retriever laying there with his handler. Of course he did his puppy dance/greeting and went to go nose to nose with him as a greeting. Without a single sound the Golden snatched him up by his face/nose and jumped up just dangling him in the air. Of course I screamed and the Golden’s handler jerked her dog back by the collar and thankfully that was enough to make the Golden drop him. Immediately blood everywhere, the nice photographer from the display across from there grabbed my pup up and pressed a handful of paper towels on his face. I was there with my almost 2yo daughter and husband. Another vendor lady came running and said there might still be a vet or nurse in the building with the Banfield Vet table and led my husband to their table as quick as possible. I followed as quick as possible while wrangling an upset toddler who just watched her puppy get attacked and another vendor materialized and got all the pertinent contact info for the Golden and it’s handler in case we needed follow up medical care because they were DEFINITELY going to be held liable. We did indeed find a nurse thankfully and she was able to flush the puncture in his nose and tell us what we needed to keep an eye on in the upcoming hours/day. In the end, it healed with no issues and he also didn’t develop any social issues with other dogs, though he did have an aversion to any dog that looked like a Golden for a few weeks. He is 9 years old now and he’s the best dog I’ve ever owned. **We did reach out to the organization and report what happened...I’m concerned they allowed such an unpredictable dog near special needs kids. I was promptly brushed off 🤷🏽‍♀️**

@pittiesmom10 I cannot believe the organization brushed you off like that! They should never have allowed an unpredictable dog to be near other dogs and children, especially special needs children. As someone with special needs myself, having to witness a dog attack can be very traumatic, not only to your dog, but to you as well. That organization should be held responsible for what had happened even if they didn’t know the golden was socially unpredictable

@@pittiesmom10 Attacking another dog is different from attacking a human. Dog on dog violence doesn't necessarily equate to dog on human violence. That's the best guess on why they didn't respond. I would have suggested alerting the press though. Nothing gets people moving like being publicly called out.

I went through something similar but a little worse. We had two big great danes trying to kill a smaller great dane and me and my dad fought to protect that small great dane. The small great dane lost her life that day because she had too much emotional and physical trauma that we put her down peacefully at the vet. My father had 36 holes in his hand (bite marks) because he was trying to cover/protect the small great dane. He had to go to the hospital and I only got a single bite (i was pulling the dogs off). My dad has lost most feeling in his right hand where almost all the bite wounds were. I feel horrible knowing that other people had to go through this. I can fully unterstand and support Melissa on this! When I was 10, a mad cat had tried to kill my toy poodle who was only 2 month old and not much bigger than a ball of knitting yarn. I almost lost both eyes and my skin was badly slashed from head to waist and arms before my granny could chase the cat away, but in spite of still suffering from some of the wounds and the infection to this day, the one thing that had most hurt was the agony of not knowing if my puppy was alright, as I was so badly injured that I could not feel my hands nor see anything anymore, and so did not know if I was still holding my puppy in safety against my neck/chest covered with my arms, or if some of him was at the mercy of that evil cat. When the doctor rushed to the scene told me, one of my eyes may partially recover but he was afraid that I'd completely lose the other one, i didn't mind that as much as the thought of losing my dog. I'd have done it all over again the very next second, if it had been required and I certainly lived in terror of him being injured by that cat for the rest of my stay at my granny's. That cat had only ever accepted my grand-father and tolerated me, but nobody else. She actually killed her own kittens only two weeks later. I recovered from most and being so tiny, my puppy had been spared any physical injury, but he did suffer psychologically badly. He had terrible nightmares for a few years and if an animal or a human was being even just slightly unfriendly towards me, he would jump in front of them and dare them to attack him, while moving as far away from me as he could, so that I'd not be hurt by them. It took a lot of love to make him feel that I was safe. It did mean though that as he would bite when waken up suddenly from one of those nightmares and he had bitten me once, as I had picked up my pen having fallen into his bed while he was having those and I did not want him to be injured by the pen, it meant that he chose not to sleep near me anymore after that, in the fear it'd hurt me and no matter what, he would refuse to sleep near me. it hurt, but if that was what he needed to feel safe and happy again, then so be it. We were together all the time, our bond was ever so tight, and he'd leave me only to go and get some sleep at night, after I had managed to make him understand that from now on, I was not going to be approaching his bed, if he was sleeping during the day, even if he was in the same room as I was, and that I'd always be hiding inside an armchair next to him but protected from any bites when he wasn't awake enough to know what he was doing. I hope Melissa won't have to go through this too!

I wouldn't care if I got permanent injuries or almost die...or even do die as long as my daughter is safe at the end. @@heidiquayle5054 Oh my gosh I am so sorry, I honestly wish they would have made a disclaimer or something it's definitely brave and everyone has a fight or flight response in that moment. I think the safest bet is picking up an object and hitting the attacking dog hard. My mom's boyfriend once had to kick a dog in the stomach when it went to bite on my dogs neck. I felt bad for the dog, but I think it was the right move. Hopefully it was okay... Anyway, putting your fingers in an angry dog's mouth is a bad bad idea.

@harleyandthechicks21 3 жыл бұрын
@@aldranzam3456 most of the time hitting, kicking, screaming etc. makes the situation worse, it would be safer for someone to grab each dogs hind legs and lift up and possibly start walking, dogs weren’t made to walk on 2 front legs and when they pull they use their hind legs to get all their force, it throws the dogs off balance and they will most likely let go, now the hard part is keeping the aggressive dog from attacking again

I don't think there really is a way, especially since it seemed like the other dog didn't have an owner. Removing the dog being attacked and hoping the attacker isn't brave enough to attack a human is, I think, the best course of action. I'm no expert but I've interacted with one specific aggressive dog, and generally I just do what the dog does but try to do it louder. If the dogs being aggressive, it'll get scared off by another aggressive creature who's bigger and louder. Not professional advice though

We see allot of "sniffles" or cat flu. It's one of those things where you treat the symtoms and with antibiotics . Very few kittens actually heal from it, but if it's not extreme, they can live with it. Unfortunately severe cases need to be PTS, or live a horrible sickly life. Synptoms include teary eyes and snotty nose. It's a horrible disease

If I was the vet on that phone call I ( 18:44 ) would have said to the human patient in the hospital: Allow me to worry about your dog and you focus on yourself for now. My team and I will do our best for him." I am not in any way saying this vet wasn't caring. Why I bring this up is because of my physical disability. I've been in the hospital a number of times for surgery. The less stress the better. A very strong statement of empathy is helpful :)

About 6 months ago my 3 year old lab was attacked by an unsociable pit bull cross that was loose. And when I tell you that I had no thought for my own well being and threw myself into saving my dog I am honestly surprised I walked away unharmed bc my dog was lucky to have survived he had multiple picture wounds to his neck and the scream he made will haunt me forever. It’s the most horrific thing to have happened and my baby is thankfully okay. Can totally empathise with the owner of the puppy

I'd imagine it's because most pits that aren't trained properly instinctively target dogs because they were bred as fighting dogs for so long and they don't realise what they are doing is wrong.

Costed me 2 grand in stitches on her neck.The 2nd time was a few months later and another 2 grand. Again, my dog didn't even fight back. She loves other dogs but now is nervous around bigger dogs and aggressive showing dogs of any size. She is still a sweet baby and gets along with friendly dogs. She is 11 years old now.

Hendricks mom did well. My parents pit/boxer mix attacked my pit bull and I ripped the dog off mine twice before finally ripping her off for good. I almost broke her leg just trying to keep her away from mine. My poor girl was rushed to the vet with gaping wounds and massive blood loss. My dog did not fight back and my parents dog had zero wounds. I still have massive scars from the fight. My baby survived, but was sadly put to sleep due to cancer that had already spread from her stomach to her surrounding organs. Best dog I’ve ever owned.
