@@trentk268 the issue isn't that they stole signs, it's HOW they stole the signs. If a runner on second decodes the signs that's one thing, but Houston used their cameras to do it, which is bullshit because there's no way to counter that, hence why it's illegal.

And very true. You can live comfortably but not luxuriously. Was just out in LA a few weeks ago for a conference and had a VRBO home we stayed in was 1100 sq ft, 3 bed, 2 bath in a not so good part of town and the house was worth 895K. My sister in Vegas has a 3600 sq ft home in a great neighborhood with a pool/jacuzzi and is basically a smart home and is worth 700K. California is a joke

Ohtani no bank would allow 4.5 Million to be withdrawn unless they had confirmation that it was him. That’s too large of a number So Ohtani and Ippei is Lying, Ohtani was placing bets on games ever since his days on Angels. Ippei is the fall guy.

Living in California may be more costly to live in than say states in the mid-west or the south, but that is because of the more desirable features here than you would find in let's say in a a state like Idaho.

Jokes on the world: The "bomb threat" which did happen and was channeled through higher ups in the brass circle, was actually a foreshadowing and meant to be a metaphorical allegory alluding to the Ippei gambling scandal -which happened afterwards

The interpreter has the full discretion because Ohtani cannot be trusted on dealing with massive amount of money due to his lack of English communication skills. The bank must have too much faith in his interpreter who turned out to fake his UC Riverside diploma... It is kinda funny that any defense on Ohtani will conclude him to be a complete idiot.

Likey Ohtani was gambling. He is highly competitive athlete like Michael Jordan or Wayne Gretsky -- adrenaline junkies who love action and competition. His interpreter who makes 300K a year (is is really 500K?) probably couldn't afford to gambe up to 3M. That amount of money sounds like someone who can afford to lose that. Sort of like Ryan Garcia in boxing worth 100M and losing a few million.

MLB should definitely investigate with the FBI. Probably Ohtani helped Ippei pay off his debt, so he innocently committed a crime to help his friend. Punishment by both the Federal government and MLB(if the bets aren't baseball related) is paying a fine for transfer wire fraud/illegal betting.

Baseball should make the season shorter and schedule double headers so traveling a minimum of 2 hours for a 2 hour game isn’t a total waste of my time. Mlb ruined my favorite thing to do. Go to Phillies games. for what? So ppl who don’t gaf ab this sport will maybe leave it on in the background sometimes? I have to travel a minimum of 2 hours to watch baseball. It seems like Ippe lied to Shohei, while standing next to him, in what he told Ohtani what was said. That’s why the other interpreter had to fill in Ohtani on the way back to the hotel. Apparently, Ohtani doesn’t really even pay attention to his money, since his mother took most of it for savings while he was the highest paid player on his team in Japan. My guess is the new person in his life, his wife, probably noticed something, but it wasn’t until the interpreter for Yamamoto, who is now there thanks to Ohtani getting him on the Dodgers. Teammates have stated Ohtani does not gamble at all, and barely does anything that’s not focused on his baseball career. The guy is obsessed with being the best ever, and this is just a distraction. That said, no bets on baseball makes this a real non-issue. No betting on the gamers, then stfu. Ohtani has a case about being a victim of a crime, but he has not committed one, and the thought he is involved is ridiculous, since his Angels teammates have said he didn’t gamble at all.

Regardless of how things are what’s more important is how things look like. The astros situation shows that. The sign stealing was only done at home and was so ineffective they played better away. They didn’t even do any of that in the playoffs. With Shohei it’s so open to interpretation that everything is fair game at this point. This story has more holes than the astros one for example.

Well, no authorities are investigating Ohtani, so not sure how MLB can get this straight out. Given that the season is about to start, the league will be pressured to address this matter ASAP with limited information. At least one person will come out as a winner here as Pete Rose will appear to various shows while collecting some allowances.

We don't know yet if Ohtani is involved or not. It's still being investigated. Ohtani's interpreter could be his "fall guy." MLB, the sponsors, and all the popularity & money that follows him, will be protected! Shoei is the face of the league. "They" are going to protect him. I sure hope he's not knowingly involved.

Dude, ippei wasn’t Ohtani’s personal interpreter during Nippon ham fighter. Ippei was the team interpreter. Ohtani is rich doesn’t mean he lives in a extravagant way. All he’s clothing and cars are sponsored. Stop making things up and speculation. To be fair, I think Ohtani should be investigated. Ippei is now disappearing after the Seoul Series and he also lied about his resume that no one actually back ground checked before hiring him. 😂

MLB has to investigate this matter because it is a serious offense, but also they have to either clear Ohtani's name or find out he was involved in the illegal betting and violating the MLB rules. Ohtani is worth a lot of money to a lot of people so his innocence or guilt has a lot riding on it. It really is a shame that this is happening just as he was starting out with the Dodgers to begin a potentially bright and successful career with a winning team. The hype surrounding the Dodgers signing him was very dramatic and climactic. And now this dark event has overshadowed everything even before his first home opener in LA. If Ohtani is guilty, it will be a black eye on the Dodgers organization considering all the hoops they had to jump through to procure him. Even if he is innocent, it is just bad optics. But if we know anything about sports is that the one thing that will make people excuse bad behavior, it's WINNING. And that's why the Dodgers got Ohtani in the first place. They want to win and he wants to win and get championships. I guess we will have to wait and see how this drama unfolds. I hope that Ohtani is innocent. Talent like his is a once in a lifetime occurrence and for him to be possibly banned from baseball would be a tragic state of affairs.

His interpreter is the fall guy and the MLB will pantomime an investigation while not holding Ohtani responsible even if he was knowingly involved. Ohtani is too big a star and cash cow for the MLB for them to punish him. Ohtani should be suspended until the “investigation” has been concluded. Also the MLB shouldn’t be the ones conducting the investigating.
