Good video! I like how easy the Honda starts and how you showed the limitations of the lift. The music with the hum of the splitter is relaxing. But the ants creep me out.

Ants, ants, and more ants!! 🐜🐜🐜🐜 (never see any uncles, though!) 😅 Good job on the firewood, and that's some really good looking wood! 🪵🪵🪵🪵 I'm guessing that one weighed around 75 pounds. At least. Thanks for sharing, Chad!

Thanks for watching, David! It will certainly be great firewood. Oak is always my favorite. I have no idea on the weight of that round - but I think it had to be at least 150. OR - I'm just getting weaker as I get older and stuff feels heavier. :)

Great video! 90% of my firewood is red oak and it takes all of 2 years out in the open to dry down to 15-20%. I now have a 3 year supply (30 cords) of firewood for my out door wood boiler here in West Central Wisconsin. 🔥

Chad… every time I fire up Frankensplitter, I wish I had a log handler. That lift is a back saver! Suggestion: Perhaps a liquid filled tire would counterbalance the log lift?
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife Жыл бұрын
I wondered how much weight I would get in that other tire. It's only an 8" tire, but it might be helpful to get some weight over there.

Great teamwork Chad, have you ever considered after splitting the chunk in half, you slide back and your helper take the other half forward, then as the ram travels back and forth you feed your chunk in and the partner loads the split, and vise- versa , this would take good coordination on both parts, but I think the splitting would be slightly faster, may require a third person

I think I understand what you're saying, and I think that's how we use it most of the time. Once the knife goes forward through the wood, we put the next piece to be split behind the knife, so that when it's on it's return stroke, we're splitting on the way back. That's the advantage of the 2-way wedge. Am I understanding what you were asking correctly?

Good morning Chad! That’s one heavy tree which I’ve learned from Mike how heavy Oak is. Mike did some rounds a little bigger than yours and his was around 250lbs so I’ll guess yours was about 220. Aren’t you worried about bringing those ants into the house when you burn them? Also, nice to see you had some help. Have a good day!
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife Жыл бұрын
Hi Ray! The Oak rounds are shockingly heavy. And this is in the middle of the tree where they are around 18-20 inches in diameter. Once we get to the actual base of the tree they will be over 30" round. Maybe even 40. I haven't measured them yet. I'm absolutely always worried about the ants. Any time we came across a piece with ants in it on or on it, we stack that in the woods and let them vacate. It's always nice to get work accomplished and get to spend time with my parents and Jennifer (and the pets).

Would the next size up split fire be more stable when lifting the big rounds? One man operation, looking at some in my wood pile that size or bigger.
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife Жыл бұрын
I think the additional weight and size (ballast) of the next size up would make the machine more stable for these large heavy Oak rounds. Most of the time (80% or so), our rounds aren't this big, so we don't have to worry about that weight on the lift tipping everything over.

I like that splitter! Where did you get it? My dad and I, along with my brother and brother in law went in on a 34 ton champion splitter from home depot. It's really nice but doesn't split both ways and doesn't have a lift.

We love the splitter. The log lift and the two-direction splitting are game changers. Thanks for watching! We really like the 2265. Here's one of our first videos about why I got it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n6x7fLintrnehKs.html We also have a whole playlist about the Split-Fire splitters. We do still have the 2265, but we recently added the 3465. kzfaq.info/sun/PLJy7cj0ut2cCSKfPN0NxATQSRHe6JjZ1P The main reasons I chose Split-Fire and the 2265 were because of the amazing engineering behind the log stops and the two-way splitting technology. We also like that it's got the log lift and Honda engine. And for the price, you're getting a much more valuable machine than other splitters in the price range/category. I also really like that the 2265 is so mobile - easy to move around by hand if you need to. Great splitter. I hope you enjoy the playlist of all the splitting we've done with the Split-Fire!

That’s got to be a years supply. Since wood is so expensive could you sold it to a mill to make Oak boards?
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife Жыл бұрын
If the tree weren't full of ants and split - it would have been great to make some Oak boards. At the base, it may still be okay, but not worthwhile for someone to just come and get a few 8' sections.

That's a pile of firewood from one tree.
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife Жыл бұрын
You're right! We're just handling the tip of the iceberg here. Once we get more toward the base of the tree, the rounds are over 30-inches in diameter. Those will be even more impossible to handle and will produce a lot more firewood. I'm guessing I'll have to noodle those up before even putting them onto the splitter.

you got some fancy new shiny log splitter with a big fancy honda engine and you cant split that but my 40 year old 20 ton splitter with just about worn out b Riggs and scrapem 5 hp motor split 40" red oak rounds all day long.
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife Жыл бұрын
It didn’t have any trouble splitting it. It just almost tipped over sideways when lifting that with the hydraulic log lift. I wouldn’t want to have tried to lift that round (or that 40” red oak rounds you’re lifting) by hand! That would destroy my back.
