If you take the idea that Russia initially planned to invade and take over the whole of Ukraine, yet now they are focused on trying to defend about half of Zaporizhzhia and half of the Donbas, one may speculate that Russia is not doing very well when compared to their ambition. In terms of Russia crumbling, it is difficult to get accurate figures and then persuade pro Russians the truth behind those figures. Like the sanctions, the economic stability in Russia, the drop in oil and gas sales. It all adds up to Russia digging itself into an ever deepening hole.

It’s funny that we are openly speaking of “shaping operations” and probing the Russian defensive lines to understand how they are set up. Are we assuming Russia is so dumb they sit and watch without changing their disposition of forces ? Also with Bakmut everyone knows it was Wagner there which means we either believe the whole 300k new conscripts have been killed or injured or we have to assume they were also being trained and getting dug in. This offensive needed to move faster or the attrition rate will be more advantageous for the Russians.

If there's no substance behind an illusion, and the enemy learns that, then yes it becomes useless. The Soviets were not as good as the current Russian regime at illusion, they've extended this doctrine significantly to the point that it bears little resemblance to the old doctrine. But there's no real substance behind it. The rot of corruption extends to every aspect of the government and society, it has all of the forms and likeness of a strong society, while having none of the substance. Remember this every time the Russians saber rattle their nuclear option. How likely are those weapon systems to work correctly, or to work at all. How likely are they to annihilat themselves, and how many of their systems will even take off never mind actually get to where they're supposed to be, and then even work. Nuclear weapons require a significant amount of upkeep, this is very costly, and anybody who works on it knows that these are one time use items, that nobody is going to be able to come back to them and ask why didn't they work. Or unlikely to come back to them... They have the form but not the substance, just like their Air Force, 1100 combat aircraft, and yet they are unable to impose their will on 8500 mutinous mercs going to Moscow for 16 hours on a single highway, with only a couple of air defense systems in the convoy. Those air defense systems had teeth, but they would not have been able to defend that convoy against a proper Air Force of one tenth the size of the Russian one. So yes, it can and in fact has backfired, if for no other reason because they drink their own Kool-Aid

That’s a great point. Maskirovka may well be a great way to confuse your population and retain power by causing everyone to throw up their hands to become morally absent political dolts, but it’s suddenly the millstone round your neck when you’re trying to be pro-active and attempting to achieve a clear objective. An illustration of that occurred when Russia blew the Zaporizhzhia Dam. No one warned the entrenched Russian forces down river and some of the few who were warned were given mixed messages about what to do. Consequently, slow reactions cost Russia nearly a billion dollars worth of lost equipment, now sunk in the river mud. There are countless such examples.

Economic and other sanctions do have a significant effect, but they cannot stop a war. Besides, if a Western company is still running a factory there or running a chain of shops, this doesn't make any difference for the war. If that company left Russia, then the factory would just be taken over by Russia, then restarted, and they would still make the exact same products. Same logic is true for the shops. McDonalds leaving Russia makes ZERO difference for the war and is only symbolic. The real sanctions are about blocking foreign funds, blocking access to money, not buying their gas and oil, blocking access to advanced electronics and technology,... Corporations still doing business inside Russia makes no difference, as long as they are not making weapons or bringing in "illegal" resources.
@jank6340
@jank6340 Жыл бұрын
@@janickpauwels3792 That’s only partially true. Any non-Russian Co doing business in Russia maintains financial connections with a Western fin institution which can be used for laundering money, etc. Making ANY financial connections illegal would close the still existing 1K+ avenues. My comment is about inadequacy of our, Western leaders to use economic sanctions in coordinated way. For ex, say the West says to China & India that unless they stop doing ANY business with Russia tomorrow at noon THE WHOLE WEST will stop buying stuff from them tomorrow at noon as well. The reason this [obviously exaggerated] scenario is not considered boils down to the inadequacy I am alluding here. It also indirectly boils down to a conclusion that the West ‘prefers’ wars to peaceful solutions. This inadequacy costs lives and literally endangers peace for the rest of us.

Talking about "Maskirovka", what if the whole battle for Bakchmut was just a strategy to divert attention from a massive Russian build-up of a new attack force elsewhere (e.g. Kremimma/Svatove) as it starts to transpire in recent days? The thousands of dead and wounded Russian prisoners were just expendable. Cynically even considered a cleansing operation with regard to Russian prisons?

maskirovka is critically important in armed conflict. I worry that it is much harder with social media than it was in WW2 💙💛Слава Україні

You do not forget where W. CHURCHELL is presently situated. You try to engage directly with the Russian Triad, you will join Winston british bulldog expeditiously. No doubt at all! Try it, the success is waiting for you 6 feet below ground.

Good questioning - relevant, smart, sequential, short; prompting Ingram, then staying out of his way.
