I have been wood burning for over 60 years. I used my brother's wood burner when I was a kid. Very clubish. Bought a new one years later. Walnut Creek I believe it was. It was ok but I was advancing and that wood burner didn't live up to the challenge. Finally in the 90s I moved up and bought the whole set and to it I added the Collinwood tips. There is not comparison to the old sets. These are fabulous and worth every penny. I am fair at it but I do see your tips will help me. Thank you for sharing.

learned more from 5 mins of watching you than all the other channels I have seen. Question what tip when you have a tiny space between lines
@BurnSavvy
@BurnSavvy 2 жыл бұрын
If it’s a thin line you’re trying to burn between the lines, then I would choose something thin like the small round flat shader and turn it upside down to burn. If it is dots you want to burn between that tiny space, the smallest pointed nib I know of is Colwood’s needle point. And if you buy them from BearWood.com you can use code SAVVY to get a discount. So happy to hear it was helpful! 🔥🙌

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I’m a beginner wood burner and I have learned so much from your KZfaq videos. I recently finished a wood burning charcuterie.board. I added Derwent watercolor pencils to add color. What would you recommend as a top coat that is food safe. I’m concerned whatever I use might promote bleeding. I’d appreciate your input. Thank you.

I love Odie’s oil, and butcher block oil and conditioner is good too… but I don’t know how they would go over those colored pencils. Sometimes pencils react differently to finishes, and those reactions can vary if the colored pencils are oil based versus wax based. Whatever you use definitely test it on a scrap piece first. If you decide on Odie’s oil, you can get a discount when you buy it from Bear Wood’s and use code SAVVY: www.bearwood.com/odie-s-oil-universal-finish-9-oz--details.html?aff=14 You can also get Odie’s and butcher block oil on Amazon. Odie’s is pricey, but a little goes a long way and it lasts forever. amzn.to/44CO785 Here’s the butcher block oil I like: amzn.to/46FztOU Good luck!

Is there any video in which i can see what’s inside it.. is there any transformer or it’s circuit board. I see lot’s of people make from Microwave transformer… so i wanna give it a try. So just curious to know whats inside it.
@BurnSavvy
@BurnSavvy Жыл бұрын
I don’t have any non-working burners to take apart, but when I do I’ll post about it for sure. The microwave transformer can be exciting but also extremely dangerous. If it were me, I’d reach out to the manufacturers at Woodburning.com or razertip.com and ask what they put inside their burners.

What brand burner do you recommend? I'm a beginner and have the solid burner that is not heating up well because ends don't stay screwed in. Bought a inexpensive wire nib just to see if I like, at some point will up grade.
@BurnSavvy
@BurnSavvy 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! My favorites are the Colwood, Razertip, and Optima brands. All 3 have reliable heat, a good range of heat, and are easy to use. The nib options are awesome. Colwood and Optima have interchangeable pens and with an adapter, Razertip is too. So you can buy any of their pens and use it on any of the machines. Razertip feels more sleek, Colwood is a little hotter and feels more industrial, and Optima is in between IMO. The higher the price, generally the higher the heat. If you’re wanting to burn high heat items like bone and gourd, high heat machines make that easier. If you only plan to burn wood, the lower heat tools give you more exact control over your heat. Hope that helps! And welcome to the Pyro family! 🙌🔥

Wanting to mark facial tattoos onto a real size wooden carved head. What tips would you recommend
@BurnSavvy
@BurnSavvy Жыл бұрын
Again, it depends on what you’re going for, if you have straight lines or curved lines or if you’re trying to add shading to your design. The only difference for carved projects versus flat projects is a vent tip or a flat tip. I typically like a bent a tip when I’m working on a flat surface, and flat tips are better for concave or hard to reach curved surfaces

Plz don't you need any ventilator when burning...?
@BurnSavvy
@BurnSavvy Жыл бұрын
Some people use a mask with carbon filters that’s rated P95 or higher (not N95) to absorb the smoke. Some people use air purifiers, fume extractors, or simple fans (set close to their work but turned away from the work). Personally, I use a smoke absorber fan. Whenever I’m working with super smoky wood, I wear a smoke mask and keep the windows open. Just always make sure you have plenty of ventilation, and make sure you take care of your needs and your sensitivities.
