My first digital watch was a Casio Marlin which was amazingly accurate. I only corrected it twice a year when the clocks were changing anyway. Every time it was only about 5 seconds out. I have had many, many quartz watches since but none have bettered this and most were worse. It drives me up the wall that manufacturers get away with such shoddy workmanship.

Thank you for this review/comparison. I have a Sinn 857 UTC and absolutely love the readability of the dial and build (Tooly) quality. The ETA movement is good but not as good as good as I have hoped. I love the UX but wish it had a GMT complication like a Grand Seiko 9F quartz. If they did I would buy it today! Thanks again for the comparisons.

Time Out Watches yes, I agree! For 30 years my every day “tool watch” was my trusty Submariner. Only last year did I start to rediscover watches anew after discovering the craziness around Rolex prices and availability. I naively thought I could go to my local AD and get a GMT Master II. Oh how the World has changed-and I resent it. The net result has been to re-educate myself on watches-and re-examine what is important to me in a watch. The quest continues! Thx again.

I did a similar test last year with 2 Seiko, 4 Citizen and 2 Casio. Most were off +2 secs to +10 secs in 1 month, however one of the Citizen's was 0, so I checked it at 6 months and it was 0. These are mid range in terms of price and age wise are 2008-2020, interestingly the 0 sec Citizen is 2008.

@@ClickSpringReview Indeed. As you know, It's luck of the draw. If you watch Greg Anderson's couple of videos on watch accuracy, he tested dozens ranging from $5 to over $1000 and the winner was a $15 Casio. Another guy showed his two Snowflake Springdrive GS (? +$3000) side by side one was running 0.5 sec/mth the other 10 sec. Great vids, keep at it.

One important question is how much have you worn these watches in the last 3 months. If they are not thermocompensated and are not worn they are quite stable as they stay in the watch box at fairly constant temperature

Bought a Bulova Precisionist, supposedly refurbished, under US$100, out of curiosity. So far it gains about a second a week. For ten years my usual watch has been a solar/light powered radio-sync Citizen that’s usually within a second of the time on my iPhone - but it’s cheating. I have a cheap Sony alarm clock with a quartz crystal and a lithium cell backup that I allowed to drift. In ten years it gained about half an hour: bad crystal, I guess?

@michaelbauers8800
@michaelbauers8800 2 жыл бұрын
Seems a typical quartz accuracy is +/-15s a month. I consider that super accurate. Do the math. It's like 99.999% accurate, or maybe better as memory serves. Quartz crystals don't run at exactly 32768 hz. I have read they run the crystals a bit fast, then use compensating skipping of impulses every so many seconds. "Inhibition compensation" maybe it's called. But they still change oscillation with temperature. Really high accuracy quartz watches can be within 10 seconds a year. To do that, they use high rate crystals, like 8 times faster. And temperature compensation.

Sir! The second to last watch, the skmie (or however it's spelt) is amongst the cheapest down market watch you can buy! I wouldn't have bothered doing an accuracy test on it in the first place. I have bought a couple of these when I started collecting watches without any knowledge of watches at all. They're not serious watches but something you're more likely to find in a xmas cracker. I hope I haven't offended you but I was astonished when you included it in your assessment.

Hi David no offence taken Sir. The reason I included this model is I hear many people say, no matter the cost of an quartz watch it will alway be more accurate than any mechanical watch can ever be , So I wanted a good price range form £10 up to £2000 I'm sure if I hadn't include it some people would of said my cheap watch is amazing accurate without every testing it On my channel I've reviewed watches priced as low as £100 alway the way up to £35k so far

@@ClickSpringReview Hi, Click Spring. Your reply prompted me to go and look at my collection of obscure watches. All my watches are housed in a glass fronted display cabinet. The more expensive ones reside in their own display boxes but the cheapos are housed in a couple of reconfigured (10 to 8 compartment display boxes with drawers underneath the compartments for storage of spares and documents. The watches don't do justice to the quality of the boxes which are of a polished mahogany appearance with quality brass stay hinges. I'm pretty sure they aren't mahogany but still beautifully finished.). On to the watches, none of which are working because the batterys have gone flat, except one which is a mechanical watch and I've just wound it up and set the time to check its accuracy. They all came from Amazon. So here goes Weide - 4 pushers and crown 30m we WH - 1104 Jaguar - triangular shape SS mechanical movement 2 pushers to set date, day Crown to adjust time and wind movement. Two Time - oblong shape with clock face, strip reader for day and round face for timer/stop watch all in the oblong. 3 pushers, brass coloured case. Skmei - 5 pushers and crown. One pusher lights letters and numbers in digital windows. SKM-1155 Infantry - body in aluminium and brass movable bezel. 30m wr 2 pushers and screw down crown. Zeiger - ltd. Edition in ss Japan movement 4 pushers and crown All the watches have flat batteries except Jaggar which is mechanical wind up (not auto). I had a skeleton watch without a manufacturers name on it which was also wind up but gave it to a mate because his watch broke and I felt sorry for him. Wish I hadn't because he has never worn it and went and bought a cheapo plastic jobby to wear.

I aam not into watches, however my last two were Secondas the British designed Hong Kong made with supposedly Japanese movements. That are at the. Lower end of such watches. However both of mine have been amazingly accurate though a little temperature sensitive. I check them when the clocks go back and forward. They are never more than five seconds out. The first one died after about ten years, but aat the price they can be treated as disposable. I have an almost unused Omega quarts bought in the 70's that lays unworking in its original box. Omega want over £500 to fix it. So in its box it will stay.
