In this video, the Queen-A-Thon continues with THE SHOW MUST GO ON - ISOLATED VOCALS! You've got to see this.
Queen - A - Thon - THE SHOW MUST GO ON - Freddie Mercury - Isolated Vocals - Analysis and Tutorial
In “The Show Must Go On” Freddie Mercury was able to muster the strength to put together one last unforgettable, spot-on performance before he passed.
What other legendary performances can you think of that were pulled off in the most unlikely of circumstances? Share with me in the comments.
Brian May was apparently concerned that Freddie would still be able take on the song in his condition but Freddie would put out what I think was one of his better high range vocal performances.
As we look at his isolated vocals we’ll break down the straightforward approach he used for the song and how he literally gave his all for the performance.
Be sure to check out the versions of the tune from Sara Loera and Dino Jelusick here:

The actual last recording of Freddie singing is the beautiful, heartbreaking "Mother Love" which, after the first 2 verses, Freddie said he wasn't feeling well and would come back and finish it. He never could. So Brian sings the last verse and you can hear the pain and sorrow in his voice. If you've not done that one, check it out. And, btw, I LOVE the long list of Freddie's isolated vocals-- "Under Pressure" being one where there's no other recording of it that showcases Freddie's tremendous power and range. I've suggested some isolated vocals to other reactors and not one has paid any attention. Their loss, but it's a loss for a lot of viewers, too. So thank you for doing this. Love it! And love your videos, Ken.

@@kentamplin Ken I'm impressed you could hit those B4s on the spot like that for a Baritone! Also I never thought about the interpretation of the lyrics "heart is breaking but wanting to break free" as his way of embracing his fate, very inciteful, a philosopher and an artist 👍👍 I wished you talked more about Freddy hitting the C# & D5 though

What’s more amazing to me about this song isn’t just Freddy’s ability to sing like that from his deathbed but the mental fortitude it took. How many people could sing about their own impending death like that without getting emotional and choking up? He was a true artist and professional to the end. ❤

@9:18 "My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies. Fairy tales of yesterday will grow but never die" is also a genius reference to a very, very early Queen song, My Fairy King: "Someone has drained the colour from my wings , Broken my fairy circle ring", about an imaginary world he created with his younger sister when a child. The book-ends of his life.

Loved your analysis, I think you are absolutely spot on, on everything. This song always makes me so emotional.. You can tell he's basically saying, yeah I'm dying and it's becoming more visible, but the show must go on. The fact he could still sing like this so close to the end is insane. What gets me most is though, it's obvious music was in his soul. Been so sick, most artists would stop singing, but not Freddie and continued until the very end. I remember reading an article with Brian may saying a lot of his last songs he had to have long breaks and lay on the floor because of how sick he was, truly is heart breaking.

Do more of the Innuendo/Miracle album stuff, his voice and singing was always spectacular, but in the last few years, after quiting tour and such, his voice got rest, and his technique just got even better, due to also his sickness, he probably didnt just shout every song his lungs out, he probably did sing it more lighter on purpose due to his sickness and also to keep his voice in shape the more he can.

They're all so great but Freddie is just so easy to fall in love with. His energy is magical. And now, any time I watch or hear anything related to the time leading up to his passing, I get teared up, and I'm not one to cry easily! This was no different. It’s amazing how well he sang even as sick as he was - iconic artists seem to pull out the reserves and find a way to still perform - part of what makes him truly great . I recently watched a video of Elvis performing “Unchained Melody “ very close to his death - he could barely speak but when he got to the piano somehow he sang great and nailed the song - soon after he died . The greats always seem to find a way to nail the performance regardless of what is happening in their lives - they go to a place where the music is all that matters

I've always had Freddie Mercury as one of my favorite singers and still is, but getting into your work made me add you to that group, Ken. Not because just your amazing skills and knowledge about singing, but also as being a great teacher. Most of all, by the love for music that you show going deep in every detail: lyrics, vocals, instrumental parts, production... the whole package. You're such an inspiration for me, a former guitarist now going towards the vocal stuff. Thanks for your videos. God bless you!

I really like your points, notes, and thoughts in this song. It's quite a poetic work! One of the things I like about this song is the vulnerable position he takes by asking, "does anybody know...?"

Literally had goosebumps. How poignant that someone else wrote the words to reflect Freddie Mercury’s thoughts about the end of his career and life.

Great analysis Ken & superb to hear the vocals isolated. Incredible. I never really fully appreciated the "magic" of Freddie Mercury, aside from Bohemian Rhapsody, but here it is very apparent. Thanks for what you do Ken. Love to Freddie's family & loved ones.💖🤘💖✌💜🙏

I love your tutorials so much. I could post this on pretty much any one of your videos. You really cheer me up and give me confidence. Even with sad subjects like this one. I'm sure Freddie would take your praise as high affirmation from one great singer to another. Thanks for doing what you do. ☺
