This is my favorite version, the studio version. For Freddie, this song was his best song, it was the best for him than Bohemian Rhapsody. Thank You for this great reaction.

You'll never get the same performance from Queen, every song they sang they would switch things up a little. Freddie Mercury actually said what's the point in playing it the same as in the studio, people might as well stay home and listen to the record. He was the ultimate performer.

In a interview Freddie Mercury was asked why are you’re videos different to the live performances, Freddie replied it they have too be different from each other, otherwise it would be boring that’s why I like to change things around, great reaction thanks 🙏

Freddie loved Aretha Franklin and she was an inspiration for the gospel feel to this song. You are absolutely right about Queen… what other bands mix genres with rock, opera, gospel, funk, ballads… I love that Freddie didn’t want to be cookie cutter and do the live song just like the studio version. Every time he sings this song live, it’s different. That’s how you know this is an amazingly talented band. They didn’t lip sync to sound “better” the way some singers do nowadays. No auto tune needed!!

Brian may said the live versions were always different mostly because it was difficult to recreate the studio sound with only the 4 voices live as opposed to the full operatic sound made in the studio he said its an interpretation made for live performance

I love both the live and the studio versions of this song, they are both very different from one another. Similarly, Love Of My Life studio and live versions are uniquely very different. The harmonies in this studio version are beautiful, thick and rich and it is fun to watch the guys while making it.

Hey Philip... Oh yeah, Phil, THIS is the reason we love Queen SO MUCH... the soul-shaking harmonies that made them famous, NO OTHER band sounds like that... the perfect instrumentalists together with exceptional music makes them the BEST... not to mention they stayed together, like family, for 20 (and now 50+) years... amazing... thanks for yet another great reaction and please keep up the good work... blessings.

Queen made music to SELL, at the record store AND for us to enjoy hearing (after buying tickets) in concert. As they've said if our concert music mimicked the records why should folks want to buy tickets. NO, fans get concert tickets to enjoy a performance. So the music may /will sound just as wonderful but we give a different presentation. Deaky (bass) was the 'non-singer' cause he said "I can't sing." They said his mic might be on but it wasn't high enuf to hear....so you might see his mouth moving. In fact on "Liar Liar" we did hear his voice (neat!). And during the Live Aid Concert a lot of us heard Deaky singing (lol). They have said he didn't add to the back-up vocals on this video. So glad the video in some places includes him like he is singing. For sure it did no harm....and what wonderful mouthing he did!!! LOL..He should get a Grammy for that!

Hey Philip, you missed the drummer, Roger Taylor. He and Brian did the background vocals and harmonies. In the live version, we see Roger singing while playing the drums. He’s amazing!! Many times when you hear a high note. It is Roger. He did the really high “Galileos” on Bo Rhap.

They created beautiful harmonies in the studios, but the creed of the band was, that if they played the songs the same way as they have done in the studio, people would listen to their records at home and not buying tickets to their concerts. Freddie considered this song better than Bohemian Rhapsody from the writing aspect. Freddie mentioned in an interview: „For Somebody To Love, we had the same 3 people singing on the big choir section, but I think it had a different kind of technical approach because it was a gospel way of singing - which was different to us. That track was me going a bit mad. I just wanted to write something in the Aretha Franklin kind of mode. I was inspired by the gospel approach she had on her earlier albums. Although it might sound like the same approach on the harmonies, it is very different in the studio because it’s a different range.”

Glad you reacted to this one. As you've discovered, Queen's official music videos were often quite different from their concert 'live' ones. I prefer this particular version just a bit more over the live ones (as dramatic & powerful as those are). Must be due to their purer harmonies and Freddie's softer vocals. When the song was released, critics did not like it, calling it the son of Bohemian Rhapsody. Pfft on the critics. This song is gorgeous.

😄This is why some reactors have a habit with Queen of always playing BOTH the studio version of a song AND also live versions. (Unfortunately, a lot of reactors insist on only playing one version of any song and then “checking it off their list”… which is why (for me, at least) I always ask for the live versions. It’s just because I always expect I’m only going to see one reaction from that channel to any particular song, and - if forced to choose - I’d rather see Freddie’s audience interaction. But, reactors are missing out on a LOT when they stick with that “one song and done” approach!)

@@PhiliminizzyReacts. This is why reactors should ALWAYS react to the studio versions of singles first, and live versions later. Never let anyone talk you into reacting to a live version first please.
