Quick fix for bad irrigation sprinkler valve that doesn't open

Bad zone valve. Wouldn't open. Probable stiff diaphragm or increased water flow through the diaphragm was preventing the top section from depressurizing enough to open. I basically restricted the flow through the diaphragm to allow the top to empty faster than it was filling, allowing enough negative pressure on top for the diaphragm to open. NOTE*** When u do this, and reinstall the valve, the initial fill-up will be slow in the top section causing the zone to activate so be aware of that. To lessen this, open your main valve slowly to allow the top portion to fill.

It is obvious the Hunter people are probably not even thinking of actually helping the millions of people that are cursed to have to use their products in their yards... I watched dozens of vids, then found this. Thanks so much! I wondered about that needle in the center. I figure its a self cleaning port to the top, and it gets bigger over the thirty years my richdel 204s have served me, but i replaced many old solenoids, and a timer.

Good explanation on how the solenoid allows the pressure release from the top of the diaphram, which allows water flow to sprinkler heads. How long does the electrical tape fix work? I'd be concerned the tape would eventually break loose and plug up part of the line, but I guess you could flush that out since it would probably only impact one sprinkler head...
