EP 47 Quick shop update
Just a quick update of what is going on, and coming up from the shop. I’m working on several shop improvement projects, as well as continuing to bring the storage unit in, which is causing some space problems. Additionally I am buttoning up the BTE Flying King which I made into a non scale Piper L-4, adding final tweeks to the radio, CG and a few other things… Stay tuned.

Hi Dan! Just wanted to thank you for all the work you put into your show!! Now, it is true that I now associate your Rebel build series with pain. But, that’s because I watched it while doing my physical therapy exercises following a knee replacement. You and the Rebel got me through it!! Thank you very much. Keep up the great work. Bob in SW VA.

I would like to see the process of dialing in a brand new airplane. It can be very educational.

I agree, I’m putting together a video right now that talks about beyond the maiden and changes I have had to make to the BTE Flying King to make it fly the way I want it to. Because it does come down to personal preference and you have to know what to do to make that happen. But yes I can see a video coming to talk through this dialing in process.

Welcome back Dan. I've just got rid of all my Spektrum stuff and have gone to Frsky too. Great kit. I've bought the X20S and several Archer SR8 Plus stabilised receivers and learning all about them. Look for to your upcoming videos!

It’s pretty exciting, the capability of this system. I have done much the same only with Futaba and XPS systems. They still work well so it’s hard to toss them or sell them off but, I am a little tired of having to re educate myself on the programming of three different systems. I kind of want to become an expert on one going forward. They say the Archer RXs are the ones for me because of the interference protection from my gas engines. I have a few with the stabilization but have not used the stabilization features, not sure if I will I suspect that’s more for 3D flyers. Thanks for commenting.

I would recommend Pipe foam on the tubes where you hang the fuselages.

I just went down to the dollar store and bought a half dozen pool noodles. I like to use them on the racks where the plane is a heavy one. It will cause a dent especially on round fuses if they are heavy birds. The flat bottom Rebel is pretty light and flat bottomed so not a big threat of hangar rash. There is foam on the racks in the trailer and truck for transporting. Those torsion shocks on the trailer have caused damage to planes on California’s smooth surfaces. 😝 Nothing like seeing a pot hole on the right hand edge of the Interstate that is 6 inches deep and extends half way into the lane. Yuck.

Grazie Marco. Andiamo a costruire. Thank you Marco. Now that I am retired and don’t go to an office every day to work, where I was exposed to other people all day long shaking hands and hugs to greet etc. I suspect that my immune system is lessened. Back in those days I swear I went 6 years without a cold or sniffle all the way up to Covid. That I did get. Thanks for the kind wishes. Let’s get building.

Why do you like FrSky? What makes it better than open source EdgeTx transmitters like Radiomaster Boxer?

I stumbled onto FrSky back when the first Taranis radio came out. I liked that it was open source but never actually used the radio to fly a plane. I liked the program ability but I just didn’t trust it in any of my scale models. Then I found the Horus 10 and openTX and really liked it as a radio installed it in a few models and was impressed with its quality. However OpenTX was kind of abandoned as a project and well it wasn’t the easiest platform to program or understand. I upgraded it to EdgeTX which is a lot like openTX except prettier colors. Still hard to understand. And when you spend an hour trying to figure out how to program something simple, that’s a waste. I saw the Ethos system and took a jump of faith that it would be an intuitive system and so far it has been. Ethos is only on FrSky radios as far as I know. Radio Master looks like a great radio and many guys seem to be using them. I just didn’t want yet another radio. I will keep tinkering with my Horus on the EdgeTX system but I really want to be less time learning/running so many systems. Right now I am Futaba Fg 12 (which I hate) Futaba 9c (Mark’s tech support) Multiplex Royal Evo 12 (phasing out) Horus 10 OpenTX/EdgeTX(not done yet) and Tandem 18 Ethos. Too much. I want to find a system and get really good with it instead of trying to remember how to program all of these systems.
