Blood cultures before antibiotics! Ensure your beds are zeroed before getting a possible stroke (or sepsis) patient on them! Hone in your IV starting skills! They are invaluable!

Any time there is a complaint of chest pain, EKG stat, the provider is going to ask for one anyway. Whether they have already had one or not.

Insulin drips… based on our protocol we have to get q1hr bgl checks to titrate our drips. The dose is units/kg/hr. Set your volume to be infused at the same amount as your unit/kg/hr so you will get called back that the infusion is done at your 1hr mark for a bgl recheck. Also helps prevent too much insulin infusing if you get a sick patient come on and you can’t get back in time orrrr if the patient bends their arm you can look and see how much medicine actually infused then consult pharmacy about what to do next.

BLS before ALS, compressions always until told to clear. If you don't know what to do, jump on compressions. Keep communication down to essentials. Pulse checks should last 10 seconds or less (and you may have to advocate for this)!
