I was awake during this. I never wanted to die so badly in my life. It started out fine ... I remember them shutting my lungs off... Heh.. this is neat... Hey mom, no lungs! But then i ran out of air. Ok.. fuck this.. breathe.. breathe! Ok, this really hurts now. WTF!!! The pain was absolute and it just kept getting worse. I was burning from the inside. I couldnt understand why i wasnt passing out. I kept on thinking this will do it... But it got worse... No this is the worst pain... No... This.... Now this....HOLY FUCK JUST KILL ME!!! And then it stopped. I lost conciousness shortly after.

I underwent a procedure that required this.. oh my, it was a Godsend. Apparently i was "conscious but didnt care" and i didnt. I did start to come out inbetween procedures and I stated "I'm starting to care again!" the nurse said not to worry, i would go under again for the next procedure... I didnt wink out completely until they started the procedure but i didnt feel a thing and could care less something was happening. It was awesome and i am so thankful this exists.... On the other hand, when i first got to the ER they paralyzed me, i was concious but couldnt move. I was screaming in my head that i was awake... I was so scared. I tried so hard to let them know. I forced myself to move... Nothing. I was able to manage to make myself tremble, every ounce of willpower i had and all i could do is shake a little. I had to listen to people talk about my DNR... Dude... I wasnt dead! WTF!? Wake me up and ask me! Im right fucking here! After a while a nurse noticed... "Are we sure he is out?" Oh.... My angel.. i could have kissed her ... Someone slapped my knees together.... "Yup... He's out" - i could have punched that one. This is the most horrible thing... No... I take that back ... Getting intubated, paralyzed, and concious... That was horrifying because they didnt know i was there. After they shut my lungs off the nurse decided to talk about the date she went on instead of getting that tube in there. I literally thought i was going suffocate right there in the hospital. It was the worst pain i had ever felt and i was praying i would lose consciousness... but i didnt... It was horrible, i wanted to die just so it would stop .. and then it went away .. oh thank god... They finally turned the air on .. THEN i lose consciousness...... Yall have a tough job. An important job. Dont fuck it up. On a side note. Nit breathing for yourself .. kinda nice, actually That system never takes a break, uts always on. When the machine took over and i no longer had the burden of breathing... That part of me got its first time off in 40 years... It was oddly sastsfying to not have to breath for nyself.. i cant explain it well, but a small part of me will never forget the one time it got to relax and have a time out ....

Back in the day, a new grad had to do Med-Surg first for 2 years before even considering ER or ICU...This was the best way to develop critical thinking skills, learn time managment, have exposure to many diagnoses and their treatments, learn how to really chart well, develop team thinking, etc..Now, I see new grads in ICU, ER and step downs that still require a good amount of nursing experience, and they are struggling..Every now and again, you come across a rock star, who is just super smart, and adapts very well in any environment, but 99.9% of new grads need to develop first and gain experience prior to going to these areas, where the patient needs to be stabilized...

I love your video and books. Very very helpful and not a lot of fluff, just straightforward useful information. One small correction. < means less than and > means greater than. (I am a retired math teacher turned RN.) Thanks again for posting/publishing these!!!

You should have a least a year (not required) of ER experience, buy a book with practice questions and once you get through it and feel comparable, sign up for it on the Emergency Nurses Association website :) best of luck!!

Went to ER with heart rate at 229. After two shots, converted back to sinus rhythm. Then for some reason my heart rate dropped to 30-40s. Last year my electrophysiologist put in a loop recorder. Im in the 30s almost every night while sleeping. I have had three episodes of SVT in the last four months. And while im awake im in the 40-50s. I was never told directly, was on paperwork, that i was diagnosed with SSS. Lisinopril and baby aspirin is all i take. Not an exerciser due to RA. Will not give me meds for fast heart rates because of sinus bradycardia. But still have symptoms and all this crap is real scary. Sorry to any others that suffer from these types of conditions. Thank you for this amazing video!

@emergencychaos4 ай бұрын
Good question! I personally just place them on a NRB and turn it all the way up. This will only be for during the seizure and I’ll remove immediately after. Doing this saves me time for other interventions like holding the head, turning the patient, and getting meds ready.

Respiratory Therapist here. I work for a hospital where we intubate. I found your video very informative as most of the time we intubate is during codes in which meds aren't needed. I've seen that our hospital uses Etomidate and Roc as their go-to for RSI. Thank you for this video!
