These clips are from the BBC: Horizon documentary series entitled "We Love Cigarettes". The advice Allen Carr gives is pretty darn good, it convinced me (a 5 year smoker) to quit cold turkey. It has been a couple months now and I'm still going strong.
Update:
It has been over one year since my last cigarette and I have never been tempted to look back. I really hope this simple advice has helped someone else.
Update: 4/19/2013
Still going strong here! Haven't slipped once! Really glad it has helped so many! Thanks Allen!
Update: 5/10/2023
Still smoke free and feeling as great as every! Thank you again Allen!

I started smoking years ago as a teenage, got addicted to cigarettes. Spent my whole life fighting Cigarettes addiction. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Was diagnosed with ADHD. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

God bless everyone who has rejected the devils intentions to be addicted to alcohol and cigarettes etc which can cause so much damage to health.

Hey mates! Can you help with the source? I suffer severe anxiety, panic and depression and I usually take prescription medicine, but they don't always help. Where can I find those psilocybin mushrooms? I'm really interested in treating my mental health without Rxs. I live in Australia don't know much about these. I'm so glad they helped you. I can't wait to get them too. Really need a reliable source 🙏

100% agree I used to have Psychosis and paranoid thoughts like "people thinking about me talking about me etc. Very odd behavior after getting off Adderall from 7-16. Antidepressants at 18-29. 31 now. I took way to much, but took about 20g of Gold caps (Psilocybin containing mushroom) I analyzed my entire life. The emotions that came out helped me understand behavior etc more. Wont ever need to do it again because I'm happy and contempt forever, but I wish more people did this to alter their perception of reality. Would help with healing much trauma

Baica Marian I know how you feel. The intense cravings are difficult the first few days but trust me those cravings will go away after a few days. ***** Makes me sick today how old people treat young people like crap and say all these terrible things about them. And that's after abusing them and poisoning them with toxins all their lives. And then wondering why they didn't turn out 'better.' I think that the older generation should be embarrassed by the world that they have created. The kids are now born into an ecosystem that is collapsing due to abuse and exploitation. They have a heavy burden to bear, in addition to just being kids

When i quit a few years ago this helped me. I was so uptight when i quit, felt i was going through trauma. He said, its really not that bad... and i got that it was almost all in my head. Its like dont think of pink elephants, dont scratch your arm all day: then you are dying to do so. But you dont really want to... you’ve just become ocd about it. I have the same skills as when i smoked. Except i AM far more relaxed now that i dont have a one hour timer starting again after every cigarette. I respect myself more which makes me not want to punish myself by smoking. Im telling you, smoking is nothing. Its a tiny itch that you’ve become obsessed about.... its not even very itchy.

I saw this video and read his book probably 10 years ago. It really did change my perspective on smoking. I have been a happy non-smoker for many years now and have no desire to ever smoke again. I grew up in a house of smokers and start smoking when I was 14. His man's advice changed my life. Thank you so much Allen Carr. RIP.

I wish my parents would have heard of him and his book before cigarettes murdered them. Now granted in their defense, they were from the 1960's generation when smoking was commercialized on Tv as something sociable and back then for decades you could smoke in restaurants and airplanes, dentist offices etc... It was part of life. My mother got COPD and struggled for years with a breathing machine and sleep apnea and medications which made her life a living hell. She passed away in 2018 from it sadly. My father was a chain smoker and got diagnosed with lung cancer in 2021. He spent Christmas and New Years of 2022 at the Oncologist hospital with tubes and feeding and whatnot and finally passed away in midsummers last year. I am an only child and i am so devastated by all of it.... My grandparents lived until they were both over 90 years old and still in fairly functional health when they passed. They just passed from old age. But cigarettes really crippled and destroyed my parents and their quality of life throughout their life. But it says itself... What good can come from putting dangerous toxins into your body via your lungs, 20 to 30 times per day. And you expect to be healthy and have a quality life?... Everyone throughout the ages that is or has been a smoker, has wanted to quit. Give Allen Carrs book a chance! Read it! You have got nothing to lose but all to gain! Good luck!

Watched this video, marinated on it for about 3 weeks, and quit mid-day last week before a cross-country flight. No craving, no feeling of loss or panic, no reason to ever pick it up again. Didn't have to even read the book, just recognized it was all myths in my head about what quitting would be like (having quit before, 10+ years ago) again. Good luck to all smokers seeing this. It really is unbelievably easy once you see it for what it is. Enjoy your money on better things and experiences. Taste and smell and breathe fully again. **Update: 9 weeks nicotine-free. Not a single craving, no desire to go back, not even while drinking.**

Thanks to this man and his book, I quit a life long wretched habit, I remember flicking away my last cigarette, mashing it under my shoe and knowing with absolute certainty I'd never smoke again. There were some failed attempts but it was like the other attempts were just getting me to that place. It's almost hard to believe I ever smoked, I could care less about it now. It's not about giving up, it's about reclaiming independence. Thanks again to this man and his book. Just a thing to ponder, I was disappointed to find many years later that the two people who'd recommended his book to me had taken up the habit again. It's not a magic book.

Everything he's saying is 100% true. Once Nicotine controls your life, it will impede everything. Anxiety, stress, boredom, concentration, restlessness, etc etc.... 8 years free from Nicotine from being an addict for close to 30 years, and grew up with cigarette smoking parents and in a time where you could smoke anywhere... Airplanes... Dentist offices etc.. , i just have to tell you... It is the absolute best thing that you can do for yourself. It got so bad for me with anxiety and the constriction in my legs, i had to almost undergo surgery. Because cigarettes were doing havoc in my body. I had leg pains for years from just standing some days. After i stopped little by little i started to regain my health to where i dont have almost any leg pain at all. The damage is still there but hopefully it will go away. One thing to remember vividly, is how it controls your quality of life. And how you will stink from it. Nicotine is a drug. And you are a drug addict. But you can stop it. Others have done it before you. You can as well. And for the record who can afford it anymore?.... 15 Euros per pack?.... Dont think so... But even if it was a cent per pack i would never put that filth in my body again! Never! Good luck.

I read the illustrated version of this book yesterday. Went 13 hours without a cigarette. During work the today I was battling so hard in my mind that I wanted a smoke. So I gave in and went and bought a packet. I only have one left out of that packet now. This comment is going to hold me accountable for quitting. I’ll come back and update. Here’s to freedom 🙏🏽 Edit: 9/4/21. I bought a packet today because I had been using vapes and I wanted to restart my quitting properly without using vapes and thinking it was okay. I bought the audio book and just had my final cigarette. On my last inhale I almost threw up. I am happy to say I am a NON smoker. 30 minutes smoke free and I am confident I will never smoke another cigarette again. Edit: 2 days and 5.5 hours smoke free. @@AjejeB An excerpt from his book that explains the title: - "The act of drinking is not only natural, but essential for survival. Drinking alcohol is both unnatural and destructive. But we have been brainwashed to believe otherwise. Therefore casual drinkers do not have the same desire as casual smokers to be completely free. They believe they are in control, so why should they deny themselves what they consider to be a genuine pleasure? Chronic drinkers would love to be able to control their intake, but have learned by hard experience that it has to be all or nothing. In between there are the millions of drinkers who realise that they have a problem, but cannot face the prospect of life without alcohol; so they would also love to be able to control their intake. If you are one of those drinkers, the title was deliberately designed to mislead you into believing that there is an easy way to be what AA describes as a 'normal' drinker. I make no apologies for doing that. My sole objetive was to prevent you going through further misery only to reach the inevitable conclusion that it has to be all or nothing. Let me also make it clear that the title I have used is truthful. There is an easy way to control your drinking. It happens to be the only way to control your drinking: to be completely free!" So, don't let the title fool you, it absolutely is about quitting alcohol! Hope that helps :)

Every Cigarette packet has a warning sign "Smoking is injurious to health / it causes cancer... " almost all the smokers are educated enough to read and understand what it means. BUT there is a problem. Every time when a smoker when read these warnings on the cigarette pack , he understand that this warning is for rest of the world. this will not happen to him, further he think that he will quit before anything happens to him. Some smokers are daring enough to think in the back of their mind that let us enjoy the smoke now and if anything happens, they will deal with it by getting best of the treatments and solve the problem. This is the problem that every smoker think that these warning signs are not for him but for rest of this world. But when a test report arrives, the smoker find it in shock and realize that ohh no this warning sign was for him actually. After the test report the smoker think and speaks in his mind that, Ohh god why i was such a fool ? why did not I understand these warning signs each time i bought a new packet ? i saw these warning signs clearly, Than why did i smoke, why i was such a fool ? he repent in his mind that if he could go back in time and reverse his mistake, but its already late. So most of the smokers understand this reality of tobacco when the nightmare come true to them and its already very late. its not just the cancer, you should please know that there are two extremely bad diseases which happens to smokers only specifically i.e. COPD (/Emphysema) and Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) , in which the smoker dies a very bad death. he cough and cough and cough ... ironically for those smokers who thought that they can deal the after effect of smoking and can get best of the treatments and use their money and technology, its a bad news for them, because the doctors cant help in this. COPD/IPF are not reversible. if its detected in the test report your death is sure within 5 years. Further in these cases the quality of life is extremely bad and very uncomfortable for the smoker and for his loved ones. My friends , plz google out and understand how the above diseases happens what it does. this is not cancer but if its detected the death is sure by coughing and doctor can not help much but delays the death for few months more for coughing up more. Further let me tell you one thing, please do not rely much on doctors and the technology. they do not have cure for the cancer till date (Its 2018 at present). they just know how to operate scissors and amputations. if you get cancer in lungs they will cut it out , you get cancer in bladder they will cut it out and insert a pipe in your stomach for urination. If you get cancer in mouth , they will cut it out in such a way that you do not need any enemy , war , accident to do it with you and living life with this conditions you can think yourself. Plz trust me There is no medicine discovered yet that you take a course of it and your cancer is cure. the only cure for cancer is that you cut a part of yourself or die. Why do you think that you smoke and hospital can save you ? many times you will find hospitals are idiots who are just making a fortune on your big mistake, and the solutions they are able to provide is to cut a part of you and through it off which finally goes in a garbage. Please understand, These warning signs are REAL. Do not think that these signs are for the rest of the world and not for you. if you are smoking or chewing than these warning signs are definitely for you. Quit smoking/Chewing before it makes you quit everything you love... Also Please under stand , the only way to quit smoking is to quit cold turkey. its difficult but its the only way. Ask any Ex-smoker that how they quit successfully, you will find that one day finally they just stopped smoking and never looked back (That is all Cold Turkey). Further the best time to quit smoking is to quit now. Tomorrow never comes for an addiction to quit. It is always NOW is the best time to quit and never take another puff, Dip or Chew. And keep sticking to the commitment to never touch again. if do not touch it again for next 10 days will definitely be hard but later life will be easier. (Please understand next 10 days pain is not greater than the pain of cutting your jaws out.) For more understanding, How to quit COLD TURKEY, i suggest you to visit the website WHYQUIT.COM . there you will find lots of understanding of how the thousands of people made successful journey of quitting cold turkey and also it will be a great help during your first 10 days to cop up with the withdrawal symptoms and the craving episodes. after a week time or 10 days it will be much easier and after a month time you will start forgetting that you were ever a smoker. Once you quit cold turkey, after 2-3 months many time you will not remember that you were ever a smoker. (But please note that as soon as you take one puff of cigarette even after a long term quit, it will stimulate and reactivate thousands of the forgotten memory of the smoking times and your brain will immediately starts craving for one more puff and than more and more .... THIS IS WHAT AN ADDICTION MEANS). Therefore after quitting smoking in cold turkey way, it is sure that you will start forgetting that your were even a smoker and you will be living your life like a normal person. But you should always know and remember that there will always be a difference that you are an EX-smoker and you are not a Non-smoker. Since non-smoker does not know the test of smoking. But when an Ex-smoker take a single puff , his brain immediately want more puffs. Its easier to quit than the treatment of COPD/IPD/KIDNEY Failure / Heart Attack deaths / Mouth Cancers / Lung cancers / Bladder cancers / Amputations due to circulatory conditions due to smoking / etc.... Its easier in life to endure pain of cravings for 10 days or a month than the smokers life in which you crave for cigarettes every 3-4 hours. Whenever you crave a cigarette or tobacco , just look around you the non-smokers . how they are happy living life without any cravings and your cant even sit on your seat when you crave. You crave for smoke only when you live life of a smoker. But when you quit and pass over initial 10 days hard time then you don't crave cigarettes that much and gradually you starts forgetting the cigarettes and you starts becoming like a normal person. Once you are off from smoking you should remember these cigarettes as COUGH STICKS , which caused you to gasp , cough in pale yellow white color and made a hole in your pocket. So that you pamper your mind whenever you get sometimes occasional craving as similar to the Non-smokers sometime crave for ice-cream in winter and just leave it and forget it. Therefore remember this now and forever .... NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF, DIP OR CHEW.

Well. Here I am. Been smoking since I was a dumb teenager Over 30 years now. A few failed attempts at quitting. Gone downhill only since I hit around age 46. Out of breath just from drying off after a shower. Still thinking “I’m a lucky one”. Every chest X-ray over the last 5 or so years looked good. Recently I was having issues and thought I had kidney stones. So was sent for a CT scan. No kidney stones but lung scarring was seen. Never even heard of it. And the more I’m learning, the more I’m thinking I’m pretty screwed. I’ve never had pneumonia or anything so I’m scared that it must be IPF causing the scarring. Now all I can do is wait for 6 months for a new scan to see how much it has grown. And in the meantime quit smoking. And I’m thinking “5years”. Like you said. We all think it won’t happen to us. I love and work around COAL DUST everyday too, so I’m screwed there also. Can’t afford to move. I’ve become so anxious about things and quitting smoking that I AM SMOKING MORE!!!!! I’m waiting to see if I’m approved to get Chantix but watching lots of videos meanwhile. Honestly the only time I every quit for more than a day was cold turkey with no help. That lasted 3 months. Part of me thinks “ what’s the point now??” It won’t even matter. You can’t stop IPF. But I guess maybe I might get an extra year of life. 🤷‍♀️. So instead of planning retirement , I’ll be planning on not being around. Planning to clean things up so my family won’t be left with a mess when I die. Figuring out what I want my young adult children to know before I’m gone. I’m 49 now and still have my mom. (She’s a smoker too). I’ve had my mom through all my stages of life. But my kids won’t have that. My grandkids won’t have a grandmother. And a million more thoughts. I am going to quit smoking. And I’m going to change some lifestyle. And I’m going to pray. And I’m going to hope. It’s still kind of surreal. I’ve always known that smoking has “taken” things from me. But I really never thought it would take my life. DONT LET THIS BE YOU!! Please quit BEFORE you feel the bad health effects. Because by then ITS TOO LATE. I am grateful my kids grew up in a “anti-smoking” era. I am so glad they don’t smoke.
